The mission of the Providence Zen Center is just simply to focus on compassion and practice meditation. That's it. And if by being more compassionate, learning to be more in the moment, learning to be focused and in control of our minds can help make the world a better place and help others, then heck yeah I'm going to keep doing that! I truly believe that people should at least visit the Providence Zen Center once, either on Wednesday nights at 5:30pm for dinner and meditation instruction and practice, or come check out the Sunday morning meditation instruction/practice at 9:00am and the Dharma (wisdom) talk led by a Dharma Teacher at 10:45am. The grounds are beautiful (there is a LOT of space to wander), the people are awesome, and they're even working on doing organic farming! I helped take care of plants when I stayed there. They've been selling their homegrown vegetables in farmer's markets after harvesting. The goodness they put into the local and greater community is immeasurable! It's a nonprofit organization too, so if you donate anything, it's tax-deductible. I sincerely hope that the Providence Zen Center can thrive but that can only happen if people continue to visit and join practice! So if you're looking for a place to grow your mindfulness, your compassion, and your meditation practice, look no further, this is the place for you :)

Every single class is an invitation to reconnect, be present and completely lose track of time. Yes. I leave sweaty and feel an incredibly positive impact on my body and health. But, NEVER do I feel like I am doing a thing I should do... I am always finding myself on the mat. I regularly take classes with Pam, Talia and Anthony. Each class they teach feels like a gift. I've been consistently going here for a few weeks now (because they have an amazing introductory offer) and have thoroughly enjoyed the classes. I've only taken the hot power yoga classes, but have taken it with several different instructors and liked all of them. Each instructor is unique in their approach and the poses they have us go through, but for the most part they are pretty similar and have all been great. They always stick around at the end if you have any questions. I also took a private yoga session here with Caitlyn where I was able to meet with her one on one. I am still very new to yoga and wanted to know if I had the correct form for some of the poses and Caitlyn was really great in helping me through that. They offer other yoga courses too like restorative yoga and hip & back yoga, but I haven't gotten a chance to try those yet. I've had a couple of questions since joining and have reached out to the studio via email and they are always quick to respond! I honestly cannot say enough good things about this place and all the people who work here. Yoga has been my new outlet and this studio has been really good to me. Highly recommended for anyone interested in yoga whether you are a beginner or not !

I am so glad I did, and fully recommend it to anyone with an open heart that wants a soulful conversation and a chance to hear some good wisdom. Naglaa is very intuitive, and is able to offer counseling on a greater spiritual level that spoke to my heart. Her words and the counseling reached me more than the everyday advice and support I get from friends -- which is powerful too, but a session with her is unrivaled. I felt very comfortable -- there wasn't a moment where anything she said made me feel afraid. It was all stuff that will help me moving forward. I will definitely come here again when I need to get some wisdom that will help me breakthrough any challenges I am stuck on.

The teacher there, Susie, is extremely knowledgeable and I trust her insight and all of that. HOWEVER, her class is not a gentle yoga class. I've been to that class on various occasions and on some nights, I worked way harder than I wanted to. The pacing was way too fast for me and her cues came off as borderline militant. Nothing about it felt gentle or calming or relax. I left for the most part feeling just ok. Nothing overly spectacular. I almost felt like she was rushing to get as many postures in as possible. And for someone who's a 500 RYT (I think E-RYT, but I can't remember or bother to check), she does a lot more standing up at the front of the class room doing the poses than actively walking around and giving assists. I'm not saying she's a bad teacher. Again, she knows what she's talking about, but I'm not a fan of how the class was formatted or how she instructed it. She felt like she belonged in a power yoga class and not a gentle one. I mean, geez, if that's her version of gentle, I don't want to see what's regular ol' yoga. For me, I need a much slower practice, which requires me to either a) be picky as hell with finding the right teacher, usually an E-RYT 500 teacher who knows what they're doing or b) just take a gentle class. So if you're like me and are looking for those requirements or are simply looking for a relaxing gentle yoga class, this may not be for you. Still give it a try, who knows. We all like different things. I'm just no longer a fan.
