A husband, wife, and their son run the place with the husband doing the cooking and the wife and son doing everything else including bussing, serving, dishes, and seating. They were really hustling. Unfortunately, the latte I ordered was not the most flavorful start to our morning, and we couldn't figure out why it was so weak. Their brewed coffee was much better. I had the western omelet and my better half ordered a California bagel egg and bacon sandwich with avocado and cheese. My omelet was overdone, maybe cooked at too high of a temperature, but tasted okay (a second longer and it would have been burnt). The bagel sandwich was good but had a similar issue with the bacon being almost burnt. Maybe that's how they make stuff here? We were starving so we ate every morsel. We loved the ambiance and the history of the place. It's worth a try if you're in Mayville.

Note to owner a handle in the shower would be very useful. Loved the amenities though. Taking the exit and driving into Ripley only took in total 10 extra minutes and it was well worth it, both for the fare offered there and for a glimpse into a small American town, which is somewhat outside of my experience, being a big city person. It was the bacon that spurred me to write this review. Perfectly cooked, not too chewy, not brittle and overcooked. Bacon was just part of the Breakfast Supreme, which lived up to its name: very tasty sausage patties, well but not too well scrambled eggs, rye toast and the potatoes! Fried in bacon fat perhaps? Crispy around the edges but still somewhat soft in the center. Perfection. What wasn't perfect, in fact , was far from perfect, was the coffee. But coffee for me must meet a very high standard. Unfair in a diner setting. So, the coffee was what it was. The wait staffers seemed to be part of the stalwart crew there. Bringing dignity to a practice that some dismiss as mere "service" jobs. So, off to Meeders you go when you are looking for breakfast in a non-corporate setting.

I could barely swallow it because it had so little gravy It is served very cleverly with the heap of potatoes and biscuit nearly filling the bowl. That allows for the tiniest bit of chicken and gravy to be served over it. After the first couple bites, the rest of your meal is plain potato and dry biscuit. The only redeeming part of the meal was the small serving of coleslaw. I had asked if I could substitute my mash potato and told no ,this is the way it's served. Now I know why. This allows mainly dry starch to be served at a bigger margin. Some of the food there is great but this is the second special I have had that was sub par. The pie , French fries and breakfasts are good. I always feel like an outsider when we eat there. I think a lot of the clientele is local and it's just never a super friendly atmosphere. The prices here are not inexpensive. I don't mind paying more but I would expect the quality to be in line with the price. I think it's best left to the locals unfortunately. We have been coming here for many years but I think that may be ending.

A local friend recommended Jack's Barcelona, and I decided to give it a try. Let's just say it was exactly what I needed on that particular day, at that particular moment. I sat at the bar and marveled at the décor -- so much to look at! Normally this style isn't really my vibe, but that day it hit the spot. The place is quirky in all the right ways; I especially loved the pillows for sale with what felt like serendipitous life-guiding slogans. I ordered the chili and a baked potato -- comfort food at its simplest. Not particularly exciting, and honestly, nothing special about the flavors. The wait was long, but I realized it was likely because two tables of four were served first, and I was at the bar. That gave me plenty of time to explore the fun details around me. Overall, it's a lovely experience with plenty of character, but the food itself didn't fully captivate me. Three stars for the quirky charm and atmosphere, but I wouldn't call it a must-visit for the cuisine alone.

It's a true one-person operation--the owner is the hostess, cook, and waitress--and she does it all exceptionally well. The food is excellent, cooked to order, and very reasonably priced. And they were massive and I genuinely could only finish one of them at the time. I don't know if the picture does it justice to jshow how large it really was! since I got a combo, it came with eggs as well as choice of breakfast meat, which I got sausage. The side of homemade applesauce was actually for the regular style of pancake I got which I was just curious what that would taste like together as I've never had it before. I enjoyed it, but actually liked eating them both separately more. Everything came out of the kitchen quickly and I could tell this is definitely a popular morning spot with locals as the owner and other staff were very friendly and on a first name basis with many other patrons inside. Definitely my kind of spot. One thing to note is this place is cash only, so keep that in mind but I do believe there was an ATM on site as well.
