Main Line Craftsman with Steve Shapiro as our General contractor worked for us for two years restoring our large three-story 1890 Philadelphia home after a fire. The whole house was damaged by fire, water, and smoke. It was uninhabitable. We were left with some gaping holes in exterior walls and roofing, and most interior walls that needed to be gutted.. Our priority was to save historic features such as stained-glass windows, parquet floors on the first floor, etc.
Over the years Steve has developed a team that includes 1) two experienced on the ground supervisors , 2) a pair of highly skilled workmen for woodwork such as window frames; and 3) other technicians that worked as needed such as tile-layers, cabinet makers, electricians, plumbers, roofers, painters, and others. For two years we rented nearby, met these dozen professionals, and saw the progress.
The quality of the work was superb throughout.
More than that, the value of our interactions lifted our spirits in saving this house that we had lived in for fifty years and raised our children. All the workers expressed love and caring for the quality of their work.
The monetary value is an investment in a house. More importantly, we moved back in 6 months ago; our children, grandchildren, friends and neighbors are all amazed at the quality of the restoration. We intend to stay as long as possible. read more
