I wanted them to pick up their tank that I had been paying $81 per quarter for. They continued to charge me the $81 even though I asked them to pick up their tank because I had apparently agreed to lease the tank from them for 3 full years. Oh well, I guess that's my fault for not reading the fine print when I started buying propane from them. Then, when I asked if they would be refunding me for the unused propane in the tank, they said no. When I objected they again said that provision was also in the lease agreement. So my advice to folks is, don't buy the "we are family" balcony they give you when you sign up and review everything with a fine tooth comb BEFORE you sign anything.

In early April of 2025 I noticed that a patch of lawn was dead, and when I smelled the dirt it smelled of oil. Bags containing absorbant material from the old oil tank had been placed on that spot. I first called the offices at John Ray & Sons on 4/3/2025 to resolve this issue. Since then I have had two no-call, no-show appointments. Two unanswered e-mails, and I have made several phone calls to their office. Eventually someone came out to resolve the issue on 5/2/2025. The solution was to remove as much dead grass as could be removed with a rake and spread grass seed over the area. The grass seed did not germinate in the oil contaminated soil. I contacted John Ray and Sons again on 5/20/2025 and was told that neither one of the customer service reps I had been communicating with were available. 48 hours later I still have not heard from either of them.

He gave me a snotty little face and wave as he left. Then his wife called me and told me I had $900 on account with them. I told her he took the tank, but he brought it back and put it in the same place, so I told him to move it or not put gas in it. I never got my $900 worth of gas. At first when I called about it, they said, "No, it was only $300 (something)." But that changed to nothing by the next time I called. He is rude and dishonest.

Convenience is definitely present, as they are open early and late (till midnight). The coffee is usually very fresh, and is surprisingly good. The regular coffee in the Bunn pot is the only one I have tried, as I do not care for flavored coffees. The beans are good, the roast is good, and I have made it almost a daily ritual to get it. Emergency provisions such as eggs, bacon, gallons of milk, chocolate chips, flour, sugar, butter, etc. are available. Cat and Dog food, Motor oil of course, a wide assortment of chips, candy, some hot food, sandwiches and pastries are available. The local papers are almost always well stocked. What makes an enjoyable experience here is the fact that the people working there are just really nice people. Some different employees come and go, but they never hire nasty or surly folks. So the vetting process for being hired must be pretty good. Kudos to the management (and the staff!)

She agreed which is documented. After sending the last payment I received a $25 late fee bill. When I called, she blamed it on a computer glitch . I received another late fee from Scott for the $25, after trying to explain to him via a number of emails he refused to accept my explanations, all documented. Now First Fuel agrees to forego the $25 finance charge, but will demand that future delivers will be COD. I find your bill policies especially towards senior citizens to be vert predatory. This recent cold snap brought to mind our time as a Valley fuel oil customer- we were on automatic…read moredelivery with a credit card on file for all fuel deliveries. This seemed like a good arrangement because we were burning about 1800 gallons per year at the time and, in the coldest days, we might get a delivery every 21 days so having them charge the card automatically should have been fast and efficient... I thought things were proceeding well until one day, during a similar cold spell, I noticed our 275 gallon tank was at 1/8- which is not much. Of course, I called to inquire about the next scheduled fuel drop. The rather rude receptionist/secretary informed me that there would be no delivery until my past due balance was paid. This confused me because, again, Valley had my credit card on file; so, I asked if there was a problem was with the card, for example, had it expired, or...?? Then she became argumentative approaching combative. Long story short, somebody at Valley (presumably the woman I spoke with) had failed to charge our card for the two previous deliveries which resulted in an outstanding balance. She further instructed me that it was my responsibility to call within 24 hours of each delivery to ensure that my credit card had been charged accordingly. So, rather than accountability, I received not only egregiously poor customer service and excuses but, somehow, the blame for their errors. As I recall a technician was sent out with several jugs of fuel to hold us until they could get a truck in for a fill up. We rode out the remainder of our contract then switched to another supplier. People make mistakes, it's how they handle those mistakes that leaves a lasting impression.

These folks advertise that they treat you like family. Believe me they don't. They say all the…read moreright things on the phone but as soon as you sign a contract they turn on you. They came and estimated putting in gas lines and tanks and gave me a price. Then the bill came and it was way over the price they gave me. The excuse was that the person who gave me the price was no longer working for them. I don't care about that. They gave me a price and they should honor it. That wasn't the end of their dirty little deeds. They told me that my 1st fill up was at 1.39 a gallon and that from then on it was 2.59. So I get my bill and its 2.79. They said that I was not on a fixed price and that I was on a 3 year contract and subject to market prices. In effect telling me tough. Well the market price in my area today is 2.55. That's 24 cents over market price. Would you do that to family? I think not. So now I have to contact my lawyer and assess my options. Don't let them trick you into a shady deal. Go elsewhere. Everyone is cheaper for oil or propane.
