Still GREAT! If you've read my previous reviews you'd know that in 2001 I hired A1 to replace my…read morewindows and they were fantastic. The previous owner, Dave, retired in 2019 and Dan now runs the company. It's been a while since I had an A1 need but alas, we broke part of a kitchen window last week and couldn't close it. I had my wife email A1 and they got right back to her. They confirmed how dang old our windows were, looked for a part to fix it and set up an appointment with us a few days later to take a look. Fortunately, Dan did have a part and was able to fix the window in a jiffy. It did cost us for a "service call" but it was worth the $160. Nice guy, too. I will continue to use this company in the future. They've replaced over 30 windows for me, installed some old school screens on my porch and have replaced my back door. Great service, give them a shot.

As the reviews of A-1 on Yelp are all older, I wanted to add something current. We used A-1 to…read morereplace over 100 windows, as well as a couple of doors, starting in 2021. Daniel acquired the business from the previous owner around that time after working there as the lead installer (so consider that when reading some of the older reviews) and every experience we've had with Daniel, Don, and the rest of their team has been exceptional. They do great work, have given excellent advice, and have treated our house and windows as if they were working on their own homes. Their prices are competitive--but I appreciate the value--explaining the difference in glass size between a replacement and new window, ensuring proper flashing/insulation, working with me to address any unforeseen issues once the old windows are out, and taking into account my desire to replace exterior trim, all of which impact a project -- vs. just "selling the window that's on the truck". Let's face it, it's a lot less fun to buy windows than a new car or a TV -- but the windows look great, I'm no longer constantly addressing dry rot on 25-year-old windows and trim, and the team at A-1 has really been a partner along the way. Could not be happier with our local installer (and local windows -- shout out to Mercury Excellum, as well)...and highly recommend A-1.

I wish every service provider and contractor was as honest, prompt, conscientious and reasonably…read morepriced as these guys are. From start to finish they were a pleasure to deal with and their work is top notch. We had another big name company come out to do a quote and wanted to charge us a very high price just to fix a cable/spring on our garage door. This company did it for half the price, which was fair for what was done. Dan was our tech. and I wanted to give him a special thank you. We will definitely use them again!

"When people keep repeating That you'll never fall in love…read moreWhen everybody keeps retreating But you can't seem to get enough Let my love open the door to your heart" (Peter Townsend) Let's be honest, when you have somewhere to go and your garage door won't open (even after you disengage the lift) you are in a world of trouble. Garage door operators are like any other machine, after X many years they poop out. For ours, 15 years was the magic number. I called American Excellence at 9 AM and they returned the call just a few hours later. A few hours after that, their technician, Dan, was here checking things out. He got the overhead door to open. He got the overhead door to close, but then it mysteriously opened again for no apparent reason. He worked very hard to figure out what was wrong and ultimately decided the computer board inside the operator assembly was in the process of intermittent failure. Blame it on old age. Swapping it out for a new board was a risky option. So we decided to bite the bullet and go for a full replacement of the overhead operator with a new outdoor panel to open the door with a code you punch in. One interesting thing we learned is that this new generation of door openers doesn't play nice with certain LED lightbulbs. I guess the technologies fight each other. So you'll need an OG incandescent bulb or a certain type of LED.. Shout out to Dan who was super helpful, polite, and had great customer service skills.

"It's just apartment house sense It's like apartment house…read morerents Remember: one man's ceiling Is another man's floor" (Paul Simon) Things started off so well With Cook & Kozlak. We wanted to replace the bedroom carpet and thought we'd deal with a local company instead of a big box store. The showroom at Cook & Kozlak had a big selection of carpet styles and quality. Christine walked us through some selections in the color family we liked, and gave is a few sample boards to take home and ponder on. After we selected the carpet, Sam came out to measure up the room and prepare the final estimate. He was very personable and professional. A few days later we received a phone call to schedule the installation and we agreed to Monday at 9:00. That never happened. I called at 9:30, and was told the crew was running late and they would be here between 10:00 and 10:30. When the crew did arrive, there was no explanatiion and no apology - so I'm not sure they knew we were promised 9:00? Had I not called at 9:30, I doubt we would have learned of the new time until they rang the door bell. The install went fairly smooth, but there were a few minor issues. The most serious was that I didn't like the way the carpet rubbed against the closet bypass doors. That wasn't met with much of a response except for "you may have to shave down the door".
