My daughter decided I should step outside my comfort zone and give it a try, so she took me to a class at Pinot's Palette in Kenwood for my birthday. Well, she was right because I had a really good time! Luckily, we went on a Monday, when there was only one other painter there, so the instructor could go at a slower pace. When we arrived, we were greeted and then ordered a drink before the class started. There was just one employee there who was the cashier, bartender, and our painting instructor. She was very patient and helpful when I struggled occasionally. Because I was new to painting, I didn't get to finish all that I hoped, but I did take home a painting that I'm pretty darn proud of!

Whether it be a figurine, plate, pot, vase, bowl, etc. pricing ranges from size of the product. There are different paints you can choose from. You have to do three coatings, and at the end they will glaze your product and you pick it up in two weeks. There is a service fee for the paints. My only con was they were sold out of a lot of products so there weren't a lot to choose from their selection. I picked out a pot for my plants. Overall it was a great experience and would recommend this to those who want to do something different. Plus it's therapeutic. Me and my friends had fun.

I've now done five classes and I'm so excited about his new space in Walnut Hills, which will provide options for all sorts of events. His creativity and imagination is endless and his students benefit as a result. Like the name says, this is not your average paint-n-sip. The drinks are flowing and it's a full bar with beer, wine, and liquor, as well as n/a options. You get guidance from a theme and inspiration photos and images, but you ultimately decide what you're going to paint. Some people choose to recreate an existing piece but many go wild, like I do. The Pendleton Art Center space was brilliant and eclectic and full of color and inspiration. I have high hopes that the Walnut Hills space will be the same and I'll be one of the first ones there. James is a delight. He's supportive and encouraging but absolutely no-nonsense. He will give guidance when requested, or gentle nudges when things go awry (or you're taking too long lol). He's an excellent teacher, an outstanding entertainer, and you feel like you're best friends by the end of the class. Do yourself a favor. Greenacres Art Center is a magical place. The grounds and the mansion feel like you are in some…read moremagical fantasy land. While it is generally closed to the public, the events are a must see. It is one of the few places in the city where you can see the Cinci Pops, the Opera, the May Festival Chorus and the Ballet all on the same stage. The summer concert series is a seems too good to be true for the price. The fall events are centered around the Greenacres Artists Guild, made up of 27 of the cities best realists fine artists and illustrators, are also quite fun. Aside from the opening art show in October, the events during the run of the show are pretty cool. The beer tasting and bourbon tastings make for a great way to check out the art while sampling local craft alcoholic beverages served by the company representatives. While the place can feel like you are entering a forbidden secret society with a long driveway lined with no trespassing signs, I recommend you check the place out. The staff are helpful and love to share info about the center. Proceeds from many of the events go to the foundations charitable activities, including the bus fund for bringing inner city kids to Indian Hills for educational programs in the arts and agriculture.

However, I've been to a handful of pottery studios and the prices at Cactus Rose are still significantly less than a traditional studio fee.
