In the past, nothing has ever jumped out as appealing enough to purchase at the Magic Nut & Candy Company. But, I'm easily influenced; on a recent visit, when my peeps started pointing out things they'd like to try, I, too, perused the glass display cases with intention. I passed on candy apples, dried fruit, & nuts of many varieties, & settled on milk chocolate-covered marshmallows on a stick. $5 for about three stacked pieces decorated with white chocolate zig-zags. A good enough portion to satisfy my sweet tooth for an okay price. And, the young lady assisting us offered to valet my group's multiple parking tickets, which was the sweetest part of our visit. Exactly as the name describes, this place sells all kinds of nuts and candy. It's been a part of Farmer's Market for decades, but I just recently thought to buy something to feed my recent peanut brittle kick. It's a little pricey. It cost $9.99, and that's for peanut brittle. The brittle comes in a variety of other nuts. Ie. Macadamia nuts, that cost even more for an 8 oz. bag. Yes, you can purchase by the pound, but too much of a hassle for me. I just want to grab, pay, and go. They have two separate stands. One for candy and the other for nuts, popcorn, caramel apples, etc. with a small cart in between. The islands and cart are lined with prepackaged goodies all the way around, manned by an employee in the center. Even if you don't buy anything, it's fun to just look at and smell all the different candies and nuts. read more

Though it may be a bit on the pricier side, sometimes I just want snacks for the moment and not walk to buy a full package in the neighboring super markets. I mainly come here to buy for family and friends outside from out of state or country, just to give something that is distinctly LA. My current favorite is buying caramel apples! Not sure why this is my current craving but their apples here are delicious. You can also request them to cut it for you for easier consumption. Magic Nut and Candy Company in the Original Farmers Market on Fairfax occupies a sizable couple of stands and sells assorted of nuts, candies, chocolates, dried fruits and peanut butter with different nut varieties and has been at this spot for decades. The peanut butter machine in motion caught my eye as it moved and mixed gooey yummy peanut butter. Love peanut butter, almond butter, cashew butter and their macadamia butter. There were so many yummy things I would have liked to buy, but didn't because I know these are so irresistible and I would do serious damage and eat it all, I just looked and visually imagined eating it and that's it. While I fantasized about eating these yummy treats, the very nice and helpful woman behind the counter let me sample some macadamia butter and toffee. She was friendly and exhibited a warm demeanor. In fact, every time I visit this farmers market, I pass by these stands and all the women behind the counter are always friendly and helpful. When I recover completely into better health, I would consider returning here and try the homemade macadamia butter which looked rich and packed in glass jars. A few feet away were Valentines chocolates and candies prepackaged for gifting. I have been going to Magic Nut for years (over 25) they have the BEST caramel apples I have ever eaten, the caramel is made is large copper pots, the apples are hand dipped and in a great variety of delicious flavors. My favorite is the cheesecake caramel apple! The employees have always been polite and helpful. Yes, it is a bit expensive however it's 2024 and most things are these days. If you are looking for a delicious treat a caramel apple is the way to go. read more

Nice stand of candies, nuts and dried fruit amongst the rows of vendors at Farmer's Market. I had been looking for some strawberry sour belts and sour apple gummies and they had them here. It's a bummer there are no samples but what can you do. I got 4oz bags of each as that is the minimum you can get. Otherwise it's by the lb increments. Service was friendly and fast. They even offer to validate your parking if you parked it the Farmer's Market lot but we parked at The Grove. We even went to their other stand to buy a bag of kettle korn ($6.99), lime-chile corn nuts and a small bag of banana chips ($4.50) because I cant say no to banana chips whenever I see them at a stand like this. read more

Nostalgia brought me back to the Farmer's Market and the Magic Nut and Candy Company, but I will never be back to Magic Nut. I was there Sunday, Feb 16. Customer Service - Horrible. The person who helped me was named Brian. I asked for 3 bags of 1/4 lbs of nuts and a bag of corn nuts. The total charged was almost $32. My friend mentioned it looked high for the amount of stuff. He walked away. An older woman came over and redid my total and it was about $21. She said that she would void the transaction and recharge me the correct amount. I checked my credit card and the original charge was still on the card. Now I have to call my credit card to dispute the incorrect charge. Save your time and money and go somewhere else. It appears that the once great company is now poorly run and provides terrible customer service. read more

I saw stacks of brittle...being hand swerved with melted chocolate then swooshed into a bed of nut pieces.... Then the sampling and I was swept off my feet. Also... have you ever had hammond's marshmallow covered caramel? Well, they have an incredible version of it here and I need more. Thankfully one-star reviews don't happen too often. However this spot warrants it. Dropped into the Farmer's Market to grab some gifts and thought I would check out the vendors including the Magic Nut and Candy Company. My daughter meanwhile, wanted one of those old fashioned stick candies. I don't remember the price, I think they were $.50 or $.25? Anyway, it took ages to get someone's attention to pay for it, there were two or three people behind the counter. One of the women looked annoyed that I even wanted to buy something. She got someone else to ring me up, I paid with a dollar bill. They handed me back a handful of pennies and nickels. WTF?!? She said they "didn't have any change" except pennies and nickels. Uh, don't you guys run a business? How difficult is it to have a roll of quarters in your register? I scrounged around and found exact change but was extremely put off by their attitude. In the end, on principle, I ended up buying my souvenirs elsewhere. read more

Subpar customer service (and when I say subpar, I'm being kind). Their sweets and treats are grossly overpriced. I don't know a place in the city that charges $12 - $15 for a caramel apple (that isn't even large), plus $1.75 for a box. Its cheap and tacky to put such items in a bag, because it changes the appearance of the caramel in the current climate. I usually have no problem paying a premium for something, but this was one time I left those apples behind. I will just as soon order a $7.99 apple from the grocery store and be happy with it. (In actuality, I got 2 lbs. of candy from Dylan's instead.) I used to love this place. I haven't been in years, since Dylan's opened at the mall. I likely will not return. read more

This place (charging 24/pound for mangos) had the nerve to not accept my cash because I didn't have enough for quarter pound. This place has so much potential but I think they are happy with the way things are. They do have plenty of variety and pricing is okay, though on the higher side. There is never anyone behind the counter and you have to chase them down. They are nice when they get in there but it would be nice to ask questions or maybe even get a sample of something that you usually won't buy. This spot is hella good right after you had a meal at one of the stalls at The Farmers Market and craving some sugar after. They pretty much got everything from dried fruits, candy and some amazing chocolate dipped apple with nuts. Service wise, its typical Farmers Market setting. There's a lot of people, so you have to be aggressive in getting attention of the workers but otherwise it's cool. It's just part of the experience and the fun at yelling at people to get their attention. Price wise its on the expensive side. But hell it's farmers market fresh. Unless you want to wait Sunday to get your fixation at the Hollywood Farmers market or go down to Santa Monica farmers market. The great thing is you can come here pretty much anytime to get your craving so your paying for Farmers Market convenience and freshness. read more

I like Magic Nut and Candy Company much more than I do of See's Candy. My mom and I were at The Grove for an event and it was her first time so I had to take her through the Farmer's Market. We then stumbled upon the Magic Nut (I'm trying really hard to not have dirty thoughts when saying that) because we were craving a little sweet stuff. The goodies: Dark almond cluster (5 stars) S'mores covered in dark chocolate (4 stars) Dark chocolate turtle (3 stars) and finally a Dark chocolate rocky road (4 stars) Candy is sold $19.99 a pound or by piece like how we did it. We purchased our candy by piece and spent like $15-20. I would totally come back and buy more candy from here again. They also sell a lot more than just chocolate, they sell caramel covered apple (which I'm going to need to get my hands on) and so much more. read more

I would give this place a four, but I have to knock off one for the outlandish prices for candy and whatnot, it's more than a little bit ridiculous. Anyway, the caramel apples are delicious! It's the only thing I got from here because it was all I wanted though they did have a very big selection of candy and trail mixes. I usually only like red apples but they didnt have any, boo :-( BUT they had at least 8 different options for toppings for your apple, I just opted for the plain one since that's my favorite. I was not disappointed at all. The apple itself was as large as a baby's head! The caramel coating was soft and still pliable, so much better than what you usually get with the sticky hard coating on fair caramel apples. The whole thing was so heavy that it was wobbling on the stick as I was trying to eat it and boy did I eat it. I meant to just try a little bit but I ended up eating the whole thing in one sitting - still dreaming about the sweet caramel :-) read more

Browsing around the farmers market I came upon one of my loves a nut place. I lovedddd there magic cashews as they call it. They had a nice honey glaze to them & delicious fresh crunch. No old nuts here. You can sample a ton before deciding which is a plus. They are always busy almost every time I have gone so be patient. read more

Two stars for the popcorn - I've had a few kinds so far they have been really good, if pricey. The customer service has never been very good. Service is slow and it can take a long time to get any help. Today, it took several minutes for anyone to even acknowledge that we were waiting and to actually assist us. We bought about $15 of candy in three cute little packages, but when I got home and opened them, they were all stale. If only one of them had been bad I could have ignored it, but it seems like the packages they are selling are either full of old candy or are being improperly sealed. Either way, I don't think I'm going back. Even for the popcorn. read more

This place has a huge spread near the back of the Farmer's Market, and a tremendous selection. The prices are OK, and they have an awesome selection of dried fruits, nuts, and candies. Great for picking out travel snacks. However, the staff seems inattentive and disorganized. I stood in front of a case, not 2 feet from an employee, who just totally ignored me. I was hoping to try an item that wasn't in one of the prepackaged plastic bags, but just got fed up and walked away. I tried another counter (I think there are 3), and picked out a bag of sunflower seeds, but it took me shouting at someone to get it rung up. There were like 4+ staffers around, and it was a really slow day. It's not like there were huge demands being made on their time. They need to get their act together. Also, when I got home and tried the seeds, they were so salty they were inedible. Cool it with the sodium, guys! read more

This place cost me a lot of money. They need to teach their employees how to handle simple situations properly. Incompetent employee did a VERY dangerous thing to me last week. On Wednesday January 23rd, between 4 or 5pm, I bought candy from them. I was shuffling a lot of bags around and accidentally left my keys on their counter. I left without even realizing it, with my keys on their counter. These are the keys to my home, my car, and my employers home and car. When I realized my keys were lost, I went to the Farmer's Market Security. Security said no one had turned in any keys and suggested that I check all the merchants I stopped at. When I went back and approached the lady behind the counter, the same woman I bought candy from earlier, told me that my keys were there! They were on their counter, she said. I was so relieved! When she didn't give them to me, I was confused. She then informed me that "some man" had taken them and was going to give them to me. This man was not security!! This was a random person, she said! I could not believe my ears. I asked her why would she not relinquish my keys to security, and instead instead allow a strange man to take my them?! In a calm, unbothered tone, she said "he said he was going to call you." I could not believe what I was hearing and asked her, "how would he know my phone number?" She said, "well he says he was going to call you and I had another customer." Then she rudely turned away from me. I was in awe. Never in my life have I ever encountered such customer service She let a stranger take my keys because she had to tend to another customer?? I was previously her customer too, mind you. Yes, I made the mistake of leaving my keys on her counter. To help remedy the situation, all she had to do was call security to take the keys away. Instead she allowed a random man to take my keys! She made a completely thoughtless decision that was about to affect me in a major way. I didn't find my keys that night. While waiting by myself, for my friend to take me home, I did see the man who had them however. He was looking for my car, as it's make is written on the key. When I stepped out toward him, he dashed away. I touched base with security and it turns out they had their eye on this same gentleman. The next day I received a telephone call from Ralph's. Apparently the man who found my keys was trying to track down my address, so he could "make sure I got my keys." He succeeded in getting my info through another avenue. My father is in law enforcement and told my fiancé and I to change our locks/key as well as a few other thing to ensure we are now protected from a stranger with my private information. Nevertheless, it NEVER should have come this far. Magic Nut and Candy put me in danger with a criminal. I changed my lock/key so that was money out of my pocket. My boss is also unhappy with this situation and is having her keys/locks changed as well. So that will be money out of my pocket as well. This woman's lazy, thoughtless, careless action put me in a very dangerous and expensive position. All she had to do was put my keys in a safe place and/or turn them over to Farmer's Market Security. She should have never allowed a stranger to take them. I am livid. I will be following up this review with a phone call to the manager and will update this review in a few days. read more

We wanted to get some sour candy strips from this place. Stood there while the Asian lady behind the counter gabbed with her friend. I had to wave a few times to get her attention. We were going to mix the 5 different flavors of candy strips in one bag, started ordering "3 strips of this one, 4 strips of this one..." when the lady cut us off saying that she will only do a quarter pound minimum. So we said that we would get a quarter pound mixing the flavors. But no, she said a quarter pound minimum for EACH flavor, WHAT!?! These are like $12.99 a pound, and she wouldn't let us mix flavors to get to a quarter pound. I've never encountered anything like it. She was so rude, we walked away. We would've spent a few bucks there and be repeat customers, but now we will not think about stopping there again. Your loss! read more

The bagged licorice allsorts were yuck. Kookaburra so much better and available at Montrose Candy Co. The marzipan was lackluster (don't know where you can get good marzipan in LA.). And the divinity was blah at best. Maybe other items are better, but the three I tried were not good:( read more

I've always purchased nuts at the Magic Nut & Candy Co. as they are the freshest. But today, I finally bought a chocolate/caramel covered apple. Got home and sliced right through this 5 lb. treasure. (not really 5 lbs. but it is huge) Ate a quarter of this delicious mouth watering treat and then went back for seconds! I attempted to purchase a few items today and was ignored for the first 5 mins. Then when I asked the salesperson behind the counter for help, she proceeded to be condescending, rude, and unhelpful. Needless to say, she lost my business. The prices are on the high side and you can find better quality elsewhere. My intention was to support a local business however I would advise to avoid this place when visiting the Farmer's Market - the employees of this business absolutely do NOT want to do business with you. There have to be a handful of other establishments in LA that want and deserve your patronage. read more

The chocolate here was very mediocre for the price. I asked what they were known for and received a few mumbles form the cashier who was working there. I went and got an assortment of chocolate truffles and a marzipan fruit. None of them lived up to the expectation I had when I saw the price tag of 1.75 per chocolate. Overall the service and the price for these average chocolates makes me rethink my desire to buy chocolate from here again. read more
