The warm hospitality from Mata and the presence of Chef Brandon are truly the highlights that make us feel at home. They both create such a welcoming atmosphere. And of course, a special mention to Payet, the delightful server who always takes great care of us. In short, the combination of amazing food by Chef Curtis Stone, the excellent service, and the friendly team makes this place truly special. Angélique

Though I've been here just once (for lunch), I am already plotting my return. I arrived a bit earlier than my friends and in so doing, accidentally avoided the start of the lunch rush. As there are not many tables here, I feel I lucked out snagging a table for us. As I took at the cozy, classy splendor of a still very new establishment, the relaxed but polished decor was both inspiring and low-key. I had an excellent espresso while I got my wish: extended time to take in the menus. The drink menu, and the food menu. It's my favorite when that part of the cafe/restaurant experience delivers tons of time to get really acquainted with a place. Our friendly, helpful server asked the questions I had about the menu, and the time he didn't know he went and found out. Breakfast is served all day, by the way. My friend started with the sausage rolls (accompanied by the freshly made ketchup). Delicious and great for a table starter or a fairly light entree. Good crunch, and moist inside with plenty of seasoning. My entree was the black forest ham quiche. It was indicative of everything else here: the right size, the right mix of produce, protein, fluffy, cheesy egg inside, and anchored by a subtle but first-rate crust. It's served with a fennel based salad, a crisp and a great complement. We were happy and satisfied sooner than expected (alas, Le Moules must wait). Still, I could not resist a little dessert and ordered the Pain Aux Apricot. It was fantastic, something out of a cafe in Paris. Crisp and light and just sweet enough. Appreciated the friendly service. A steady diet of 70's soft-rock quietly served as the soundtrack at this one lunch. There is easily accessible parking on the street or mostly-free city lot.

And I know that vanilla cupcakes with buttercream frosting is pretty easy to make, but sometimes I'd rather just buy baked goods than make them for myself, especially when I'm driving past what I thought was a popular (and presumably good) bake shop. I expected a high-quality cupcake. The cupcakes looked cute, but they were as dry as the Sahara. They should have been labeled as white cupcakes as I didn't detect any vanilla in them. I suspect that the "buttercream" was made with milk and margarine and powdered sugar.....so much powdered sugar. It was sickeningly sweet, and it was dry too. And a true bettercream doesn't even use powdered sugar. So not only were the cupcakes terrible, they were not even what they purported to be. This is like calling a cut of meat a filet mignon and serving a hamburger. Von's, Ralphs and Albertson's make better cupcakes than this for a fraction of othe price.

I got my go-to flavor, the Espresso Delux Hokey Pokey. Personally, I find this flavor to be more rich in flavor, but less sweet than the original Hokey Pokey. Plus, as a coffee-lover, how can I say no to coffee?!?! The ice cream was smooth and creamy, while the coffee flavor was noted with each bite without being too strong or overpowering. There was also a slight note of tanginess to it. It was topped off with crushed bits of chocolate covered almonds and toffee/honey comb flakes. In my opinion, this was the highlight as the toppings complimented the ice cream. You get the smooth and creaminess from the ice cream, yet the crunchy, chocolatey and nuttiness from the infused toppings. Now that's a heavenly bite. Highly recommend checking this place out whenever you're at Century City mall. It's located on the 2nd floor, right outside of Macy's. There's plenty of seating inside and the store is overall quite clean. Staff have been super friendly during each of my visits.

I had the California Orange cone. It was dreamy orange soft serve with candied orange pieces. Ah, those were so good. It also comes with dark chocolate pieces, but I asked to have it made without. The cone tasted a bit blah, so that was the only part of the treat I didn't care for. The service here was spectacular. I think it may have been the owner, but he gave me the whole walk-through of the brand and the flavors. He gave me a sample of the most popular Hokey Pokey. It was too sweet for me, so that's when I went with the California Orange. Throughout my visit as I was eating my cone, the mood was kept up with some cool Rolling Stones tunes being played on the record player. Then the record can to the end, he turned it over. A very lovely experience! Overall, I would definitely come here to try other flavors and take in the cool ambiance.
