This place was the best of the best in the area. Admittedly we've gone to various spirit stores during the Halloween seasons out of habit and yeah, they have some fun stuff...but this place is next level. The staff is awesome, the variety of costumes you'll never see at a chain store is amazing, and they have nice dressing rooms that aren't super small. Their makeup and wigs, along with their rentals, is really extensive. And they have a magic section, a dj/lights/fog machine area and some super cool props for your decorations. I love Spirit stores for the fun nostalgia, but this is now our go-to place moving forward. It's worth it! read more

If you're looking for magic supplies, costumes (rental or purchase), DJ equipment (rental or purchase) or just strange decorations you can't get much better then this place in the Fort Worth area. This store is jammed (and I mean, jammed) packed full of costumes, and the prices / selection tend to be better then most of your typical Spirits or Halloween Town locations. Some of the associates love to practice their magic / card tricks in the store, so if you're looking for some impromptu entertainment (and you ask nicely) I'm sure they'll oblige. What's even better is they hold the annual Hangman's House of Horror Haunted House event every Sept. thru October in the building connected to the store (supposedly the top charity-benefiting haunted house in the nation - according to the website). I had a crew installing dance floor, Marley, over in Fort Worth. They got there and discovered the client had no expendables, tape, available to install their floor. I had sent my crew there with just enough, and a little to spare, gaff tape and vinyl tape to install my 54'W by 42' deep marley dance floor. One of my stage hands called to let me know about this situation and told be about Magic Etc. So I called and yes they had, in stock, these sometimes difficult to locate expendables.Two thumbs up aaaaand they let me pre-pay over the phone and have my stagehand pick it up.......these guys saved us 2.5 hours of driving back and forth to the shop for more.....saved my day. This place is crazy in the best way ever. I want to give them 5 stars because their customer service is so fantastic. Even right before halloween when the store is absolutely packed with hurried last minute shoppers and panicked people trying to find that perfect wig or sequined jacket or hideous mask - the staff is amazingly friendly and helpful. I think I'd lose my mind working in here just from the sheer amount of goods available... How do they keep up with it all? Despite the endless labyrinth of aisles filled with crazy costumes and props of every genre,this place is well organized. I recently needed to rent a small speaker and microphone for an event, and working with Magic was completely painless and affordable. I called and made my order over the phone and then picked up the equipment the next day. They simply make a copy of your drivers license and credit card, then show you exactly how the rented equipment works. Casual, professional, and friendly all around. Everyone was super laid back and nice, and knew exactly what they were doing. This place is well run! I didn't need any costume pieces for this particular halloween, but the more I browse around Magic the more inspired I get to put something fantastic together. Went there because I got a costume for work and they changed the theme a few days later. Didn't have a receipt since when I bought it I said I didn't need a bad so left with just the costume but had to CC I bought it with. Went a while to see if I could exchange only and and advised I only had the CC I. bought it with and my intention she. I bought wad to wear it but they changed the theme at work. Advised I had the CC and she told me she couldn't help me after waiting in line. I love the store and almost every time I come here I'm greeted by their super friendly sales associates! Their selection is amazing you have everything from DJ equipment to SFX makeup! The only reason I give it 4 stars and not 5 is because of this one sales associate. I believe she's their "makeup artist" but every time I come in she's extremely rude and acts like I'm bothering her by being there. I used to go there quite frequently because I'm a makeup artist and I have to get a lot of supplies pretty frequently but now I tend to go to this other store in Plano because she kind of just ruins the experience. Magic Etc plays out lots like it's still sorting out what it's trying to be - it's a bit of a rambling mess of costumes (both pre-packaged and thrift-store chic), accessories, props, with a magic store and music rental built in. If that sounds hectic, that's cause it is. There's a little bit of general store in here, like one of those old school joints in small town where the motor oil sits on shelves next to the toothpaste and the locals act like that's totally normal. I digress. What Magic Etc does have going for it is lots of selection - I dropped by to purchase (of course) some mustaches, and they had a number of them in stock, from semi-spendy super authentic ones to some malleable numbers that you could twist and turn into something fun. I may save some of these for the pub crawl we'll be experiencing later this week. Stay tuned. As for this place, I think that there are a number of things that they do well - I'd love to see more outrageous costuming happening, so who knows about that, but absent any other real options, this is no doubt a spot I'll hit again. Huge rambling old magic and costume shop. They have more stuff packed in here than ten hoarders living together. If you can't find it here, it might not exist. Costumes of all kinds for all ages. When I say this place rambles on and on, you have no idea. Much larger than it looks. My wife and I wanted to rent a theatrical costume. We found some Renaissance type options we liked. They fitted us out and we were happy with our choices. The floor needs to be vacuumed, rather cluttered. The guy who met us at the door, well, let's just say he was special. The lady who fit us out for our rentals, was quietly nice in an almost awkward manner. The cost was not bad. I purchased one sword to go with my costume. Two rentals plus a sword purchase for less than one hundred dollars. read more

I didn't find really any other options for costume shops in Fort Worth, so when I needed to rent an Easter Bunny costume for work, I went here kind of by default. It was about two weeks before Easter, so I figured most of the good ones were already booked, but they came up with one last not-too-scary bunny for me. (NO, I didn't wear the costume, but one of my employees did!) There were a TON of animal mascots, and most of the rental costumes looked like they were from the 70's or 80's, kinda well-used and somewhat dingy. It smelled pretty musty and old in there too, but I guess that's what most costume rental places smell like, ha. The prices on costumes vary, but I think it was pretty reasonable for the bunny for a weekend rental. As for purchasing, you can choose from a TON of costumes. There is a lot of stuff crammed into that space, including accessories, shoes, wigs, makeup, jewelry and more. They also had magic supplies and DJ equipment, lighting, etc. for parties. I'd probably go back if I had a theme party I wanted to dress up for, but I imagine it's a complete MADHOUSE during the Halloween season and would never go near there then. The staff I interacted with at the costume rental counter were friendly. But when I walked around just to check the rest of the place out, I was passed by two other employees and never greeted or asked if I needed help (and it's not like there was anyone else there for them to help, either). The location is easy to get to, so that's a bonus. Hopefully there are other big costume shops in town, because if this is it, I'm not convinced. read more

Magic Etc is a great place to get anything costume related. As a theater person who loves Halloween, I have been coming here for years and it has only gotten better. It has a crazy amount of distinct sections. There's 2 magic counters, a wig/facial hair counter, a rack or 2 of clown costumes and props, a makeup counter, a Halloween-y back room, some basic masks, an area for "Leg Avenue" style sexy costumes, a section with DJ supplies and lights, and about a 3rd of the store is their rental selection/dressing rooms. There's also several small costume & accessory sections for popular period costumes like flapper, hippie, etc. The magic counters are a great display area where all the tricks are displayed and you can ask a sales associate to show you how a trick works and they will usually perform it for you. there are also books and how to-videos and some random puppets and ventriloquist dummies for sale The Hair counter has an amazing selection. They have several racks of bagged wigs and a small army of mannequin heads wearing higher quality wigs. The counter below has an enormous collection of facial hair. The best part of the mustache selection is that if you need the same mustache in a different color, or the same color in a different style, there is a number/letter system in place to accommodate this. These are really high quality, and I've used them several times. The sales associate was very knowledgeable about the care required to keep in good quality for a long time. The makeup counter is a great place for any makeup you need. They have a lot of 'Woochie' latex appliances, and a great selection of Ben Nye makeup. A personal favorite of mine is there various tooth paint whether you need smokers brown, zombie green or just plain white. The masks range from rubber Halloween masks in the back, to the basic out front. These include white full face masks, domino masks, and masquerade style harlequin masks, those clear masks with certain features on them, and those now internet infamous guy fawkes masks. The rental area is racks and racks of amazing costumes including a large selection of mascot costumes (fun fact: 2 of the mascot heads do not have bodies to go with them, try and guess which). The only dressing rooms in the store are in the rental section (you are not allowed to try on any of the bagged costumes in the store). If you are renting a costume and need an accessory, they will sometimes let you rent an item from the retail section. I was renting a 'Riddler' costume and was able to rent a green bowler hat from their retail section. this does not apply to wigs or facial hair. The area for "Leg Avenue" style sexy costumes has a very large selection of fishnet stockings and various 'sexy' costume pieces as well as bagged costumes. The best thing about this section is that there is a rack of high quality tights and undershirts made to wear under mascot costumes. They are also good for a superhero costume. just add boots, a cape, and underwear and you're superman! The best thing in the store is the Halloween-y back room. All of the scary, creepy stuff is back here. generally whenever you go back, a doorbell goes off and a sales attendant comes to help you personally. Its great I could go on and on about this store (and I probably already have) but the bottom line is that this store has a great selection and great service. In Ft. Worth you cannot find a better costume magic shop. UPDATE: Magic Etc and Hangman's House of Horrors share a building but they are not affiliated with one another. Worst customer service ever. I was so excited to check this place out until I walked inside. Instead of being greeted, the employee just followed us around and stared at us like we were going to steal something. Then when I asked a question they couldn't just answer my question. This is a one stop shop for all your costume needs. They sell the typical bagged costumes, as well as more high end costume items. They offer costume rentals and have some pretty sweet wigs! Facial hair, shoes, feather boas, weaponry, disco balls, speakers, corsets, blood, gore, magic tricks, hats and everything else. I typically start my Halloween costume shopping here and fill in the blanks with items I get online.
