That, of course, meant I had to see if the hype was real. THE HYPE IS REAL. I went early for breakfast. I ordered biscuits with sausage gravy, eggs scrambled with cheddar, and potatoes. On the side, I ordered two pancakes. Everything is cooked to order, which is always plus because you aren't getting something reheated or microwaved. The quality of the food is also an indicator because you can tell by texture and temperature throughout what is on the plate. The cook came to the table to get confirmation of how I wanted my food plated. I gathered that some people are picky about their food touching, so he wanted to know if I was okay that the gravy may touch my eggs and potatoes. Servers, cooks, and chefs usually never confer with diners to inquire about peeves like food touching, so it was a bonus as service goes. On to the pancakes, you really don't need syrup. The pancakes are butter and lightly sweetened. For anyone who has had Johnny cakes, the pancakes are reminiscent of those but without cornmeal. The other thing about the pancakes was that they held heat instead of getting cold immediately. Some people may rattle off how some other place or how their own pancakes are the best in the world. Be that as it may, the pancakes that I had at King's Soul Food Gallery were the best that "I" have had. I will have to make my way back to sample their lunch.
