If flavor had a headquarters, Jerk Yard would be running the show…read more I've been a fan of Caribbean food for years, and let me tell you--Jerk Yard gets it right. Their new spot inside Picnic, the digital food court in South Loop, is a total game-changer. From the moment I placed my order to the very last bite, it was nothing short of . What's even better? This is Jerk Yard's second location, following the success of their beloved original in Hyde Park--and yes, it brings the same delicious taste and chill island vibes that made the first one such a favorite. Consistency is everything, and they've nailed it again. Let's talk food: the jerk chicken is juicy, smoky, and seasoned to perfection with just the right amount of heat. You know how some places say "jerk" but really mean "barely spiced"? Not here. This is the real deal. I paired it with their coconut rice and sweet plantains--absolutely chef's kiss. The plantains were golden, soft, and caramelized just right. Portions are generous, the packaging is on point (perfect for takeout), and the flavors? Unmatched. The team clearly puts love into every plate. And while the new location is in a digital food hall, it still feels like Jerk Yard--welcoming, flavorful, and full of good energy. Whether you've been rocking with them since Hyde Park or you're new to the brand, this South Loop spot is a must-visit. Pro tip: if the oxtail is on the menu, do yourself a favor and get it. Thank me later.

Make note, not sure if their system is setup properly to provide refunds but that is a major concern for an upstart. This place is/was promising but I personally dislike a badly written/price menu than buckle and dime customers. Make the jerk rice bowl $12 w/chicken. Problem solved. Besides it was a bit too spicy. Two stars because they at least made up for the discrepancy however, I'm leaving the review for my own temperament so that I know what I'm willing to put up with if I ever revisit. I really didn't like all of the background talk about why I wanted to switch my order. Just simply switch customer orders without having to hold a conference, eye rolling, and nasty attitudes. I get it that it's family-owned but please invest in some customer service training for the young lady at kiosk or hire someone with some experience. Definitely will have to give this place more time to adjust.

I had the pineapple sweet potatoes & Mac & cheese for sides & yummmmm. The cornbread was also very good! It's not really a dine in restaurant although you can sit inside & eat. It was chill. The service was cool, they were working hard but still friendly. It's a little pricey but the amount of food makes up for it. I had enough to eat the next day & share lol.

The fish is fried well and the hot honey sauce was a good addition, but not amazing. Just regular hot sauce is good for the fish. The green beans are seasoned well and not spicy in my opinion. The mac and cheese was decent. Not award winning, but good. The pineapple sweet potatoes were fantastic! We ordered an extra side, but they forgot to include it. The initial delivery took so long that we didn't bother to ask for them to send it. The corn muffin was also really good! If you're visiting Chicago, I wouldn't say that this is a must-visit place. Check it out, if you have time!

The yolk didn't have a strong mustard base, but it was still good. The saltiness of the capers would have been a bit much on them. My ex ordered the catfish with collard greens and a side of slaw. I must admit that they scored high for the crust in terms of crunchiness and flavor. The greens could have used a little more seasoning. I am no fan of slaw, so I cannot speak to how it tasted. I ordered the pot roast and jalapeno grits. You can have shrimp and grits. Give me pot roast and jalapeno grits any day. The pot roast was tender and the grits were creamy without being runny. Dawn AM Eatery packs out fast. The website recommends making reservations. Because we were playing by ear, we went as a walk-in and had a 30-minute wait. It was well worth the wait, from service to good eating. Next time we will make a reservation. Note: I was so in the moment that I didn't photograph our other dishes.

There were three major misses: 1) NO COFFEE was available until we were halfway through our meal--10am breakfast on a Sunday and no coffee is available//REALLY(?); 2) It was much more humid inside than was necessary given the temperature outside--turn on your air//it was stuffy; and, 3) I specifically asked in the reservation notes to be seated as privately as possible as this was an HR-related business meeting. I was seated one foot away from another table when other seating possibilities were available that were more private--clearly my note was not looked at before I was seated even though I asked if she'd seen my reservation. After being seated I asked if I could slide my table over as there was a wide open table to my right but a table a foot away to the left. The hostess accommodated the request, but 15 minutes later someone slid a table from the row in front of us to the space directly next to our table. The breakfast was good--"Big Benny" (Eggs Benedict's) was delicious according to my guest, and the "Make It A Classic" (2 eggs, hash browns, toast, bacon or sausage) was as advertised. My only negative on the food is the hash-browns tasted like potatoes out of a bag and were not warm so definitely not cooked to order despite the wait.

I usually place my order online ahead of time and simply stop by to pick it up. The online ordering process is super easy, and I love that they send text updates so I know exactly when my food is ready. One of the best perks is their rewards program, so you can earn points every time you order. My go-to meal is the Spicy Galbi Boneless with a side of rice. I also always get a side of ranch, although that's the one thing you currently have to order in person when you pick up your food since it isn't available as an online option. Parking is also convenient because there's a free parking lot on the side of the building. It can fill up during busier times since there are several other restaurants in the plaza, but I've usually been able to find a spot. If you don't order online, you can place your order at the front register or use one of the self-service kiosks inside. The restaurant has plenty of seating, making it a nice place to dine in, and there's also a restroom located toward the back. The staff is always friendly and welcoming, which makes every visit a pleasant experience.
