As train stations go, you can't really fault Maghull Station. It has two platforms sat on either side of train tracks through which trains travel fairly regularly, although not quite regularly enough.
But that's about all they offer, really. Maybe I'm just used to stations that are a bit more comfortable around the Formby, Southport and Crosby area, but Maghull Station just doesn't really have anything there at all whatsoever, not even a toilet. And nobody wants to be caught by the local police whilst they relieve themselves against a wall, do they?
It does at least have those electronic signs telling you how long you have to wait, but when you see how long it is until the next train, you usually wish you didn't know. There is a small selection of shops nearby which are very handy (considering there's nothing at the station) as well as the very good Great Mogul pub, but there's nothing at Maghull Station itself which suggests it's anything more than functional. read more
