Check-in took me less than 5 minutes total. No issues, no hassle and they even comped me a breakfast for the next morning, which is typically £17.50. So that was nice. The room, it was amazing. Big, beautiful and very accommodating. The bed was great, large, comfortable and I fit on it, which seems to be a rarity. In the bathroom was a large jet tub and a large shower. Very well done and classy. The room came with a nice flat screen TV and free view stations. One entire wall of my room was a giant window overlooking Manchester, which was great! Now to the lesser parts of this place. There is a large lounge to the right of check-in. It has many tables, seats, a flat panel TV and a full bar. There always seemed to be two or three people working at the bar, which was rarely super busy. If you went up to the bar for a pint, they would tell you to go sit down and they'll come get your order and bring it to you. I sat down for 10 minutes waiting, eyeballing these guys who were standing around doing nothing. This happened multiple times while I was here. Suck. With my comped breakfast waiting for me, I headed down to the restaurant. I was seated as far in the back as humanly possible, which the rest of the restaurant wasn't very full at all. It was buffet style, with an omelet/egg bar. Took me 15 minutes to get a cheese and ham omelet. Really? Were they raising the chicken and waiting for it to drop the eggs right there? When I finally get my omelet, I head back to my table only to find that they have sat someone else there already. WTF!?!?!1one! The food was good, so that was nice, once I had a table to eat it on. There was also some mysterious shortage of glasses, bowls and plates. You'd think they'd have that figured out. All in all, the hotel is very nice and modern. I enjoyed my stay there and may or may not stay there again when I am back in town.

One of the things which makes the Etihad Stadium great is how easy it is accessed through public…read moretransport, one of the reasons this is down to is the Etihad Campus Metrolink stop on the Ashton Under Lyne - Media City line, taking you to Media City in around half an hour, and the city centre in under 10 minutes, only stopping at Holt Town and New Islington before Piccadilly and Piccadilly Gardens. A large amount of "special" trains also run on event days at the stadium, generally, Manchester City home fixtures and that includes trams to the likes of Altrincham, Eccles and Victoria. Having visited so many away grounds supporting City, from Liverpool to Wigan, from Stoke to Wolverhampton, from Everton to Hull, very few grounds have a metro station or something similar serving them, often having to rely on travelling on foot or in gridlock traffic, which is why having Metrolink here is so useful. The station its-self is quite small only being on the one line, but on a match-day, it does get really busy, I heard roughly 5000-7000 people use the tram from this stop on a match day so it does get pretty hectic, so be warned! For some reason, the address here is stated as a Metrolink office when it is actually inside the Etihad Campus, coming out of the station into the stadium. The station always seems to be staffed during event days, in a way it seems like a city centre tram stop but with fewer lines. Getting in and out of the station can also be a struggle, there only appears to be one lift which is quite small and it's also really slow, I've seen lifts climbing multiple floors go quicker than that lift to just go up one, the lift also generally has an awful smell to it, meaning you have to hold your breath when getting in sometimes due to the huge stench of urine, which certainly isn't a good impression to give for the Etihad Stadium, arguably the greatest football stadium in the country other than Wembley. Keeping customers informed at busy times such as on a City match day also could be better, the screens showing the next tram time and whether they will be a double or single, are often false an inaccurate and the same can be said about the announcements they're doing, often taking twice the time, or even more. The convenience of the location, making this special for the Etihad Stadium to have an easy for all supporters to get to games really helps this, but other than location it is a basic and poor stop in most regards, but the polite, helpful staff (most of the time) on matchdays and location serve it well to warrant a three-star rating.

A tip of the hat to the Metrolink employee at Manchester Victoria who told us to switch at Piccadilly Gardens for easier access to trams to the Etihad. On the way BACK the lines were so long(so long that you roll your eyes and come to terms with the fact you are going to be in this line for at least an hour) but moved efficiently and we were back at Piccadilly w/in half an hour from entering the line. I was amazed. Really amazed and pleased considering how freezing cold it was outside. Way to go!

Really nice full breakfast, even choice of hot porridge (plain with no sugar, just right), wide selection of fresh fruits, juices, cold buffet and of course full English from the self service trays. (Self service can sometimes be dried out, tired but not here all freshly cooked and topped up constantly with piping hot replacements including delicious black pudding, herb sausages and succulent portobello mushrooms. You won't need another meal for a week after that lot.) Tumble out of the back entrance of Manchester Piccadilly railway station, across the road and under the bridge, there it is, couldn't be closer to scuttle through the Manchester rain excellent, highly recommended.

With it being connected to the Metrolink, this not only means you can continue your journey but it also adds back-up for if either lift isn't working, meaning if you struggle with steps, there's always a back-up way out, just cross the Metrolink bridge, go down the lift, and follow the station around to the exit. Certainly not a bad little station, it might have fewer facilities compared to Manchester's other stations, but there's just something about Deansgate Station which I like. 4*

Whilst these stations are just boring old train stations, Deansgate Station is a piece of architecture worthy of a viewing along with the Castlefield/Deansgate canal routes and the old ruins nearby. A real piece of Manchester's historical character. As the other review is not about the station at all but about Deansgate the road and area, here's a bit about the station. It was opened as Knott Mill on 20 July 1849 and you can still see the old Knott Mill sign just above the new Deansgate one. The sign isn't as old as all that, because it was a wooden station back then. It was rebuilt to what it is today in the 1890s. It was later called Knott Mill & Deansgate, but now it is sadly plain old Deansgate. In 2006 its annual passenger total was only about thirteen thousand, but now it is well clear of a hundred and twenty thousand. This could be because its so good that its popular, or because the world is suffering from overpopulation, which will eventually kill us all

The station's layout is easy to follow, although it is split into two bus stations, most of which do go from the main terminal. Buses from here serve most of Manchester including Bury, Bolton, Salford, Rochdale, Middleton and the MRI. National Express also run coaches from here going across the country. I would love to see digital bus timetables showing when the next bus is, which I've seen in other locations across England, which perhaps could list destinations and towns showing the next bus to go there, which means you can always get the next bus and know how long it'll take without the need for third-party mobile phone apps. The staff inside the station seem friendly, and although they do try to help it stay clean, it doesn't always stay that way, mainly down to members of the public openly making a mess including smoking (which is forbidden), or the occasional litter or pigeon problem. There is an ATM outside (Be careful as this is a common spot for homeless people), newsagents and a coffee shop (which never seems to be open) at Shudehill. 3*

Shudehill Interchange is one of Manchester's transport hubs that is far less scummy than Victoria…read morestation and much less stressful than the bustling Piccadilly Station. You can catch the metro from Shudehill either as well as many local buses. It's also the Manchester stop for Megabuses which I love because the bus station is only five minutes away from my flat. Mega useful. Inside the bus station is a newsagents which sells confectionary and crisps and stuff for your journey, and generally the station is clean, light and well maintained. There's a few seats if you've got a long wait too. Ooh, also dead useful is that there is a cash machine just outside the main entrance. Dead handy if you're over in Trof or tv21 and need some more cash quickly.
