If you had told me a few years ago that I'd one day, be emotionally attached to my dentist and her office staff, I would have laughed out loud with my half-hidden smile and changed the subject. Then I met Dr. Chao and her incredible team at Pleasanton Prosthodontics. What started as fear, embarrassment, and years of avoiding mirrors somehow turned into one of the most life-changing experiences I've ever had. And trust me, nobody puts "dental implants" on their bucket list expecting a spiritual rebirth and the sudden urge to smile in every photo like they're running for office. Dr. Maggie is one of those rare doctors who combines absolute perfectionism in her work with genuine compassion for people. She never made me feel rushed, judged, or like "just another patient". She honestly cares. And she is so amazingly sweet. She always took the time and explained everything, calmed every fear, and somehow made a very intimidating process feel manageable. She answered all questions kindly, and in plain English, so you could understand. Honestly Dr. Maggie has the patience of a saint and the precision of a neurosurgeon working on a brain. And her staff? They are absolute angels from above. Every single person that worked on me over the years is kind and warm, and supportive especially when I was feeling extra vulnerable, or embarrassed. They never made me feel like I was judged or less than. Some of the girls have quite the sense of humor, and would make me laugh, when their fingers were down my throat, (figuratively) which made it even funnier. I could go in there all depressed, and one of their stomachs would rumble with hunger, and we'd all start cracking up, and I'd end up leaving with smile on my face, even before it was pretty. They cared about me, remembered me, and supported me throughout the whole long process. But here is the real truth; they didn't just fix my teeth. THEY GAVE ME MY SMILE BACK! AND MY SELF ESTEEM! Now I smile without thinking about it. I am no longer the person slinking around the back of the group, not wanting my picture taken. Now, I am happy to be right up front, grinning as wide as I can for the photo. That kind of confidence restoration is hard to explain unless you've lived without it for a long time. My journey began in 2015 when I fell down some stairs and broke my front tooth. You don't realize how self-conscious you become, not wanting to talk to strangers because of the gaping hole in your smile. I think I was the only person in the world who was HAPPY to wear a mask when COVID hit. It was truly awful, and even though it took a long time for the whole process, it was soooooo worth the wait. If you are scared, embarrassed, overwhelmed, or putting this off because you think things are "too far gone;" please don't give up. A New Smile from the Heart -- thanks to Dr. Chao's Dental Magic! As the daughter of one of Dr. Chao's patients, I am here to share my mother's story - a testament to Dr. Chao's expertise, compassion, and ability to transform lives. My mom, Lisa, had been struggling with ill-fitting partial denture for a long time. Despite the numerous adjustments made by her previous dentist, none could meet her dream of a partial that not only fits but would also allow her to eat nuts. It turned out, her journey to perfect partial denture would end with Dr. Chao. From the onset, Dr. Chao's approach was different. She seems to have a unique skill in denture making, ensuring the fit was perfect for my mom. The first follow-up at two weeks saw an adjustment to the right side of the partial denture that was causing some discomfort when eating. The relief was immediate, showcasing Dr. Chao's mastery. At the one-month mark, my mom reported that while eating didn't hurt, there was a bit of discomfort due to the partial touching the gum on the left side. Dr. Chao promptly addressed this, and to my mom's delight, she was able to eat nuts without any issue - a feat that once seemed impossible. During the denture making process, Dr. Chao's keen eye noticed a problem that had been overlooked. During the second visit, she discovered that one of my mother's teeth was infected. Even though my mom did not feel any pain when eating, the X-ray confirmed this. Dr. Zhao immediately sent the X-ray to my mom's existing dentist for a root canal. Upon learning that Dr. Chao also offered crown services, my mom requested her to handle the crown placement. She placed a temporary crown first, and my mom's trust in her skills was well-founded. In addition, Dr. Chao also addressed other existing issues that were causing my mom physical and emotional discomfort. My mom had a front tooth that sticks out, causing her embarrassment. She also had a tooth that had a rough edge and a gap that caused food to get stuck. My mom had raised these two issues with previous dentist or denture maker, and was told those can't be fixed. Not so for the amazing Dr. Chao! She noticed and fixed those problems on her own without making a fuss. My mom cannot believed when she looked into the mirror the nicely fitted front tooth alignment, it really made her day! Now, my mom can also floss comfortably, as Dr. Chao smoothed the rough edge and narrowed the gap. In conclusion, Dr. Chao has done more than just fit my mom with a well-fitted partial: she has demonstrated an exemplary level of care, skill, and commitment to her patients. We used to dread taking my mom to the dentist, as often she comes home frustrated after a dental visit, hurting with pain and being told her issues cannot be fixed. I came to Dr. Chao with a complicated bite and a need for veneers due to some cosmetic issues. Other dentists saw a gold mine and were giving me quotes that were very high. Others were suggesting invasive jaw surgery. After coming to Dr. Chao, I could tell immediately that she very intelligent and was willing to be creative and constructive in her approach. She gave me a reasonable quote and her work was absolutely beautiful. I am so proud of my smile and my bite closes better than I could have imagined (I came in with only two teeth touching and now have about 8-10 touching for a more relaxed bite). When my wife (who has a big fear of and has been hurt by dentists in the past) recently spent over a grand on a bridge issue that wasn't getting better, then lost confidence in her dentist and literally got out of the chair and left the appointment, I knew it was bad. Unfortunately, my own molar pain flared up before I could call the office so I shared both our stories with Vanessa who schedules the practice. Though my wife's issues are a higher priority, her teaching commitments make it tough to schedule her in right now, so Venessa got me in right away to treat my pain - besides I could do a reconnaissance mission before recommending the place to my skeptical wife. This morning I had the most awesome in-dental-chair experience that I can recall. After listening intently to me and genuinely caring about my health and dental issues, along with her new side-kick and advanced trained dental assistant Norah, Dr. Chao gave me the most thorough, gentle and highly efficient dental exam (she knows her stuff and executes rapidly) I have ever experienced. I took my nine year old to her to get an opinion about his teeth when he was four and my six year old to her for an opinion about his multiple cavities. Updated review. I have been working with Dr Maggie for a good 8 or 9 months now with extensive work. I am in the home stretch, while i dont want to be told what work is scheduled next because I am the most phobic and anxiety ridden patient possibly, I believe all that is left is a crown and being fitted with flex partials. I will be a loyal patient to this dentist for life or until she retires, which ever comes 1st. She is extremely sensitive to her patients fears an concerns, she follows the same plan my original dentist who has retired in handling my crazy phobia anxiety disorder self. And she has done so with no judgment. I have unfortunately worked with a surgeon who literally implied that I was just a drug seeker. Dr Maggie is an example of what all doctors should be. I am a 76 yr old woman with scleroderma and multiple dental challenges, namely missing and failing teeth in a very small mouth. Dr Chao has competently and kindly assessed my situation, presented options and worked with my oral surgeon to achieve restorations of the teeth that can be saved and replacements for those that can't. This year she filled two teeth and did the casts for and installed a crown on an implant and a cantilever crown to replace a tooth that had broken off at the root. In addition, she promptly responded to my many questions and difficulties along the way with the patience and the reassurance I needed.
