There are other Mexican restaurants closer to Albany with some great vegan options and I would even say they are owned by the same parent company. Typically the reason we go to La Fiesta in Clifton Park is because we are meeting someone who isn't vegan and we're finding a place we can all find something on the menu. La Fiesta boasts several vegan options on the menu, they even have vegan cheese and seitan (meat substitute). Many places will just give you a bean and vegetable option and omit the cheese and sour cream but charge you the same price and call it vegan. The service is great, the waiter was very attentive. The one thing that caught me off guard was when I asked for hot sauce, he asked me bottled or house-made? I thought, house-made sounds like something I need to try and ordered it. He could have warned us it would be $2 extra, I still would have said yes but we were surprised to see it on the bill. I enjoyed my potato and spinach enchilada dish and my wife had a good amount of guacamole and chips before her Vegan Fajita Quesadilla arrived. The quesadilla was one large tortilla folded over in half and stuffed with peppers, onions, and mushrooms and what should be vegan cheese. She only ate a quarter wedge and a few bites of rice before she was full. As we felt fine driving home but I started to experience heartburn which since being on a plant-based diet for nearly 10 years only happens when I eat something non-vegan. My wife was sick during the night and throughout the entire following day. We are convinced there was some cross contamination in the food or worse, her quesadilla was made with real dairy cheese. This isn't the first time we haven't felt well leaving La Fiesta's Clifton Park location. Maybe it wasn't a fluke and there is room for improvement in kitchen practices to prevent cross contamination, maybe we just have bad luck. We can't keep going there if we're going to get sick everytime. If you don't have food allergies or sensitivities I'm sure you'll be fine. Otherwise La Fiesta really lives up to the name. Friday evening, the restaurant was packed, there were people waiting at the door, drinks were flowing, and the music fun.

Fried pickles were great and rumor has it this special will be around awhile. They're as thin as french fries and they must use some sort of sorcery to get them evenly battered and coated. These were perfect for sharing with someone who normally hate fried pickles because they're too thick and who hates mayonnaise. We started off with the patron tree and ordered mango, peach, raspberry, and strawberry. We opted for on the rocks versus frozen. All of them were very good not overly sweet. Last week, my office ordered the burrito box for 6, 6 full sized chicken burritos, tons of chips, and two salsas for $54. You can't beat that deal, and the flavor was out of this world on every single component. The pico was incredible and the burrito were a great size. Today I tried the birria ramen and I really enjoyed this as well. They are killing it in the kitchen. The only question I had is, why isn't it served with birria meat? The standard option is chicken, which was good but I think the beef would go better with the beefy broth. Either way, it was a stellar bowl of soup for lunch, and so so filling, I could barely finish half. And the packaging was great too! We're already planning our order for next week. The torta ahogada was something I wouldn't normally go for, but wow! Its flavor was unmatched and the freshness from the picked veg and lettuce brought it to life!
