After a failed attempt to get into the extremely busy and poorly managed Tayyab's, we decided to try out Maedah Grill. In comparison to the indefinite wait time at Tayyab's, we were seated instantly at Maedah. The hosts are quite attentive and knew when we were ready to order. We got the Hummus (which comes with bread) for starters. It was really nice and flavorful. The bread was fresh too! For our main course, we ordered the Chicken Sheekh Kebab with rice and their newly added fish entree - Grilled Fished with Salad. The chicken kebab was good and cooked well. The fish was cooked well too, but lacked salt. The fish had a nice grilled/roasted taste to it, so quite disappointing to learn that salt was missing. That would have been a 5 star for this place! The servers/waiters were extremely friendly. Our server was from Uzbekistan and was very happy to learn that we had come all the way from NY to taste their food ;-). He gave us a complimentary Turkish Tea and dessert.. again, both delicious! We appreciated that little kids kind gesture! The Maedah Grill is huge - considering it is behind Whitechapel High Street with not alot of passing trade --it can also be very busy. Turkish cuisine with its main feature of grilled meats and oven baked dishes. What is lacking in decor is more than made up in generous portions. Service is friendly and the prices are very reasonable as well. "Tavuc sis " at £7.50 for meat eaters is grilled marinated chicken with a big plate of rice and salad and the meat is good! For vegetarians I would recommend the falafel which is gorgeous and the Turkish pizzas. Oven baked Turkish bread is a must for everyone. Referring back to decor though, there are small sectioned off rooms also available for "vip private" meals which need to be reserved in advance. read more

This place is pretty good, I've been to better places that are a bit more memorable, but it's good. Great value, and tasty food, you can trust that it's going to reasonable, and that you're going to be very full at the end of it. Being down the road from tayyabs, it's not as impressive, but I think stand alone it would get more custom and probably higher reviews too. Hidden on a scruffy little road behind busy Whitechapel high street and only a few blocks from the bustling Bricklane lies Maedah Grill. On entry to this large roomy Turkish restaurant you are instantly surrounded by mouth watering smells from the open grill and freshly baked turkish bread. The Meze starters of Sigar Boregi (deep friend pastry filled with feta cheese), Ispanakili Yogurt (Spinach an Yogurt dip) and babaganus are of the best I have ever tasted, fresh and wonderfully tasty, served with warm Turkish bread and pickles. For the mains I had the Cop sis a lamb Kebab served with rice and salad. The lamb was beautifully grilled and is heavenly dipped in the spinach and yogurt dip. The restaurant is very family friendly and doesn't serve any alcohol but does make a mean milkshake. The menu does have a few vegetarian options but revolves mostly around a carnivorous Turkish theme. The staff are friendly and unobtrusive. The prices are average but the portions are fair and ingredients fresh. Quite simply if you are looking for delicious and authentic Turkish food without any frills Maedah Grill is the place to go. This place is essentially faultless. To the goons who are giving poor reviews based on their lack of alcohol - for all your false cultural awareness, this is a restaurant that is about 20 steps from a mosque, it's clientele are Muslims fresh from prayers - this is real cultural diversity, and if you are unable to go one meal without alcohol, you should probably think about what it is in your life that requires a daily numbing. The food is delicious and plentiful - and so cheap you'll be wondering whether they're in the business to *shock* provide a good service for the community, as opposed to milking us and maximising profit. Starters are worth getting even if you're not a big fan of them [it's bring on the mains for me, but even I buckle at Maedah Grill]. There is a real diverse choice of mains, you can come back several times and get something completely different each time. Make sure you try their complimentary sauces, because they're the sort you want to shamelessly drown yourself in. Desserts are another must - a trip to Maedah requires a very big appetite to get the most out of it. If you like milkshakes you'll be hard-pressed to find better ones outside of some underground Shoreditch milkshake bar I'm too square to know about, dah-ling. And on the drinks in general - if you really can't go one meal without alcohol, more fool you, as if you're eating Turkish food, the tea and coffee is really a must. I'd be upset if a place like this served alcohol, while those bemoaning it's lack of presense are playing the 'we're so hip' card, it stinks of 1970's Marbella "What, no chips? You can't have a meal without chips" little-England mentality. When in Rome, cultural adventurers... Basically, this place is worth a visit - ignore any voting down on here because it seems to be based exclusively on a lack of booze. read more

New Tayyabs and Maedah Grill are like two friends at a party. Everyone is queued up to dance with the hot girl, they've heard she's totally worth the wait and comes through every time. In the corner, her homely looking friend gets all the cast offs, the disappointed, would-be lovers that didn't make the grade. Last night I was one of those coulda-beens. I showed up late at Tayyabs, table full of friends chowing enthusiasitcally and a line of eagle eyed patrons awaiting seats. Not wanting to cause a riot, we left and decided to go to Maedah Grill down the street. Wow, was that place empty. It's huge and modern, with comfy leather seats and big tables. Perfect for a hungry crowd of friends! But they are all down the street eating lamb chops. Sad face. And for good reason. The food here is alright. It's Turkish, which I prefer to curry. We ordered borek, hummus, bread and main courses. The bread was warm and amazing, but quickly eaten by the time I got my hummus. Then I had to eat it with a fork because they never brought more when we asked. The rice is amazing, moist and fluffy. But my mushroom curry let me down, extremely oily and oddly Italian flavoured with very little mushrooms. Also they have no booze, but amazing looking milkshakes and smoothies... but no booze! Poor Maedah Grill, these guys are very sweet and the kebabs looked really good on the grill. But it will eternally be the sloppy seconds on this street. read more

The food was mediocre to average, but the portion sizes of the average dishes made up for the mediocre ones. The food exhibited good flavours, albeit not particularly impressive ones. Vegetarian fare was greasy yet enjoyable. The meat dish had a hearty helping of lamb. The tomato garnishes on all plates looked anaemic, which made me question the quality of all food served. Despite this the taste was par and I couldn't argue with the price. The service wasn't inattentive, but it was far from prompt. Nice appetizers too, the flaky rolls, the salty grilled cheese...Unfortunately, I was not a fan of their hummus...it just had an odd off-putting flavor to it. We visited on the recommendation of the hubby's colleague, who raved about the awesome Turkish fare here at Maedah Grill. After touring the Tower of London, we decided to walk to the White Chapel Neighborhood. It was about a 20 minute walk. By the time we arrived, we were starving! They gave us Turkish Bread which was so delicious, soft, and fresh. The yogurt and mint sauce was heavenly!! We also ordered the falafels ( resting on a bed of hummus) which were really tasty and creamy. For my main dish, I ordered the Lunch Special Number 1, which consisted of chicken and Adana, rice, and salad. The portions were HUGE! ( see photo for evidence) Everything on that plate was scrumptious and well seasoned. And all for 9.95 GBP. They could have easily charge more and it would be completely justified. After the meal, we were given Turkish tea (which undoubtedly was the best tea I have ever had) and some Turkish delights. Not only that, the restaurant itself has gorgeous woodwork and is very clean. I love that you can see them grilling everything in the open kitchen. To top off our experience, everyone here was so friendly and wanted us to be happy. We assured them we were extremely pleased. Was in the neighborhood because I tried to go to Tayyeb's and the line was way too long (maybe 40 people deep) even on a Monday! So we popped into Maedah. First mistake, popping into a place that doesn't serve alcohol. So no beer or wine to take my Monday work edge off. The food was mediocre...the bread was boring (and I was hoping for some warm delicious bring me 3 baskets bread). The meats were dry, which was super-disappointing. Lots of families eating too--so we had the unfortunate luck of screaming kids as ambient noise. Would have rather waited the hour to get into Tayyebs. read more

Wow !!! I am suprised that so many had such average experience out here. I was out here during Ramadan time. Food was fresh and delicious. The bread was warm and fantastic. Their staff though was friendly but were a bit too swamped as lot of people there were breaking their fast. So the service was quite average. My wife absolutely loves this place. I'm not as enthusiastic because I'm the one that has to pay but I suppose for the amount you get its good value for money. One thing I hadn't tried up until now was their mock tails. OMG I tried the strawbacana 1st (it was intention to only buy that) then nearing the end of my dining experience i decided to try the Caribbean smoothie and it was just as delicious. Had dinner here early this week. Tried the Chicken Shish Kebab (Tavuc Sis) which was a generous portion but a little on the bland side. Also tried the BabaGanus which went very well with their fresh bread. Everything seemed overly spiced with chili which drowned out any flavours the meat might have had. Their Lamb Pide (Turkish Oven Baked Pizza) was topped with minced lamb, onions, green peppers and cheese. I fell in love with Pide in Ankara, however at Maedah the Pide was good, but not great. Finished off the meal with some hot Sutlac (Turkish rice pudding) which while tasty was too large a portion for me to finish. Overall two of us ate the above with drinks for less than £15 each, so in terms of value for money, Maedah delivers. That being said there are better Turkish restaurants in London, and I dont think I will be crossing town again to come here any time soon. read more

If you are in the area and feel like kebab, but an actual sit down restaurant, for sure stop in here. I could basically just come and eat bread and dip here. Its kind of like when I go to a Mexican place with good tortilla chips and salsa. One of my favourite restaurants in London. The meat dishes are amazing and huge. Kitchen is open till late. I always go for mix kebab and cacik for starter. I can also recommend goats cheese and shawarma. The waiters are always friendly. They don't have an alcohol licence and don't want any alcohol in the restaurant. But the next pub is just around the corner. The restaurant is wheelchair accessible with disabled facilities. read more

WORST TURKISH AND SERVICE IN LONDON AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!! I came here in a large group with my family (around 15 people or so including kids) Service here was TERRIBLE! We probably waited over an hour and a half for all the food to come in total. We came during the eat out to help out scheme so each person ordered a separate meal. They barely had any meat left on the menu which is The first red flag, we came at 7pm so not even that late. We had to ask so many times for some bread and water during the hour and a half wait, it's like the staff were zombies. They were really unorganised.. especially the manager who paid no attention when we asked. The staff were sooo rude- and in front of my whole family. We asked several times for more ice for our water and at one point when we thought we would get more ice the waitress came to just take our tong to hold the ice. When I said we need it as we are getting more ice she said she needs it to get the ice. I then asked if this is the only tong in the restaurant she was silent. I then asked if I will get the tong back and her answer was 'obviously'. I don't know how these people are open for business. We got 1 starter and 1 of the meals around 50 mins into our wait. We couldn't eat it as we wanted to wait for everyone to have their food. This ended up being another 30-45 mins wait, by which time the food had gone cold. When the rest of the food did come most of it was wrong, and when I told them it's wrong they argued with me. There were some meals (around 3) that we specifically wanted with chips but were given rice, and we also ordered 2 extra chips. When we said that we want chips they said that the amount in the 2 bowls of chips would compensate as it is more than they usually give for each portion. They refused to give us more chips until we made a big fuss about it in the restaurant. Also I ordered a beyti- which came wrong. If you have ordered this from any Turkish restaurant you would know that it is essentially an Adana kebab wrapped in a bread and sliced into a few pieces, and also comes with yoghurt. They just gave me a plain Adana kebab. When I said this is not what I ordered they said this is what I ordered. I looked at the menu again and the item which was called 'beyti' was not actually a beyti. I said I wanted something else and they said I can do that but it will take another 20 mins. Seen as though I was with my family and the kids were getting restless and tired I decided to just have the wrong food- which was the worst kebab I've eaten in a Turkish place. Ps I have been to many Turkish places in London and this was clearly poor choice of Turkish. The service was so bad here I didnt even get into how poor the food was. Also I had never been here before so I wanted to try it. After leaving the place several of my friends said this place has been rubbish for a long time. Moral of the story- never eat here. Really nice food, typical turkish cuisine. We went for the mixed grill (much smaller portions compared to what we're used to). Houmous, tabbouleh all very nice. We opted for the private room with floor seating. BUt it was quite cold, as there was not much heating and not that well furnished. Nice setting but bear that in mind if you have kids! Also had dessert there, cheesecake was nice as was baclava and the mint tea is amazing. Location is also convenient as right next to the mosque so don't miss the prayer. I recently ate dinner at this restaurant with family. It was the first time any of us had eaten at Maeda Grill and I will definitely return. Although a little pricey (but normal for London) the food was delicious. I have never eaten Turkish food before and was pleasantly surprised. I ordered the Maedah Pide. A Pide is basically a Turkish pizza. The base is a long and thin bread and the toppings come in a variety of choices with cheese melted on top. The Maedah Pide came with a topping of chicken, minced lamb, peppers, onions, mushrooms and cheese. I love chicken, mushrooms and peppers anyway so I found this combination excellent. It was very tasty and the portion was generous, I struggled to finish it. Payment was at the till, we paid cash and it was processed quickly. read more

I've been here a few times with friends and although the menu is quite varied theres not a lot more than you'd expect from your average Turkish restaurant. The grills are really nice and portions are slightly on the large size so I always end up sharing a main with a friend. Went there on Sunday 29/7/18 for our son's party. We invited about 80 people. All I can say is that the staff there went above and beyond to make us feel comfortable. The person in charge of our tables; Anish (not sure of correct spelling) was extremely helpful, supportive and kind. The food was well priced and very tasty. I would advise anyone to consider Maedah Grill as they have a separate area which children can use (we had a pinata) and plenty of space. I'd also like to mention that the lavatory areas were very clean. read more

So about my experience which I had yesterday evening we booked a table for 7 of us at 9pm once we got there we waited a few minutes fir the waiter to show us to our table. After that we all sat down looked through the menu once we were ready to order we called the waiter over and placed our orders we ordered 3 chicken steaks one lamb steak and other stuff as well. Not long after we ordered we got our starters which was nice and then we got our drinks but one was the wrong one so they changed as I said we didn't order that but they did try and leave on the table and force saying that we ordered it but then again they did change. After that we all got our food but one person didn't one of the waiters came and said after everyone got the food that the lamb steak is not available which was not nice at least let us know when they took the order after that she had to order something else which by the time her food came everyone was finished and so she couldn't enjoy her food with everyone and she didn't even finish her food as we all needed to be some where. Ok at the time of payment we put a complaint forward to the waiter who served us we told him that we want a discount as we was not happy with the service at all and the person who didn't even finish eating her food which came so late the only answer he gave us was we can give u a 5% discount if we pay cash but that's not a discount for the bad service as they offer to all customer which spend over £50 and pay full bill in cash we told him listen our bill is £122.95 we will give you £110 as because of the customer service and the customer was not satisfied with the service. He still rejected so we told him to call the manager he came out he didn't even have a smile on his face we told him what the problem was he goes did she eat the food we said yes he goes then that's ok why u complaining we told him then she didn't finish it as it came so late and everyone has finished eating. After that we just said you have to pay regardless and its subject to availability but yes u at least need to the customer after they order check if you have it in if not come and tell them so they can order something else so the food comes together. read more

The grill and salad lack freshness!! As an avid Mediterranean food lover, i find the meat should be tender succelent and juicy, the salad to be seasoned but i was shocked by the quality that it was the complete opposite! When ordering a mix large to share kebab and the waiters served in minutes after arrival. My 1st reaction was how dry the meat looks and extremely over cooked it is. It tasted worst then it look cause the flavor was lost in the dryness in your mouth. The salad was dull, no season, nothing! It literally seem as if it was left over food from yesterday. I complained to the manager and he said since it was the season of eid, he prepared and cooked before the break of Eid, just 10-25min. He prepared before anyone will pass by and eat so the customer would not have to wait. So not only he admitted the food is not fresh off the grill but they definitely did not deliver what is stated on the website ''New Exciting, Meadah grill provides fresh food....'' And for that I would not recommend this restaurant! He was only apologetic and gave me a mere 10% of the bill.
