    Mousakka

This is a great spot for some Turkish food. I ordered the Mousakka but tried the Falafel and Kebab dishes as well. Everything was well seasoned and prepared, and the meals included complimentary bread, and salad.

Turkish food is delicious and in Dalston, there is a huge Turkish community, selflessly sharing their culinary wealth with the masses as we speak. Somine, one of the best Turkish restaurants in the area is open 24 hours a day to satisfy those late night/ early morning cravings. You can eat in or out here, I used to live across the road, so on a winter night, I'd grab a Somine and a bottle of wine after work and chow down in front of Eastenders. You can see the steaming vats of goodness from outside and the smell of tomatoes, lamb, potato and various other ingredients hit the olfactory senses as soon as the door swings open. Its best to go here early evening as by 5am the selection can be bit disappointing, I have often taken home a tasteless tomato soup, instead of the delicious lentil and chicken concoction I was dreaming about on the 149. Everything comes with tasty rice and a bag of bread so big that you'll be eating it for the rest of the week (with hummus if you've got any sense). All this for about £5 and its almost too much for one person, so unless you're a gluttonous pie muncher like me, one dish from here is perfect to share.

As soon as we saw the huge trip advisor banner I got the feeling this place was not for me. Maybe it's better post hangover as according to previous reviews, but I don't do hangovers anymore so i wouldn't know. Maybe I'm harsh because I love to make soups and stews and these were just not that good to me. My husband wasn't impressed. The service was ok, we didn't get a receipt.

He was eating some kind of soup and immediately knew that I wanted that too! I asked him what it was and he said that this was the kind of soup that his Mum made for him on cold days like this...well perfect! The soup, which was a rice-yoghurt soup with oregano and chili sauce, arrived shortly after and it was really what I needed at that time. I was served warm bread and a typical side salad along with it. (Update: a Turkish Yelper saw my photo of the soup and sent me the following compliment: my favourite soup.. name is "yayla corbasi ;) Once I'd finished my soup, the nice waiter approached me again and inquired if I wanted anything else to eat. I asked him to recommend something to me and he said that being from Adana originally, he'd recommend Adana Köfte. The raw köfte went onto the grill and after they were done the arrived on my table...along with a few more side salads: onions in a reddish sauce as well as an onion-salad. All was very delicious. True to Turkish hospitality, I finally received a Turkish tea, which rounded up my meal quite nicely. So, if you're willing to entrust yourself to the staff when it comes to food recommendations, you're in good hands here!

I was enjoying a late night (drunken, let's be honest) meal with three, come four fantastic friends, devouring a £12 bottle of white wine, (someone get this girl a straw!) and shoving hummus and lamb shish kebabs in my face at dangerous speeds. 3D glasses were involved, as were some incriminating photos with some overly powdered Turkish delight. I think quotes like "That's what she said" and "your mom" may have slipped in among my infamous Scottish and Irish accents. (They're truly amazing, you should hear me say "Carrrrehmel" juxtaposed with "They're magically delicious!" This also launched a few references to Toucan Sam, which were equally enjoyed by the Irish, Scottish and American group. Nearing the end of our hummus, haloumi, cack and kebab, Evelyn received the ominous text "Michael Jackson Died..." to which, logically, we decided to confirm by asking the waitstaff who had been trying to usher us out for the past 20 minutes. The only things confirmed at the meal were that #1.Anatolia Ocakbasi was indeed magically delicious and cheap, and that #2. If MJ did die, we blame the boogie. Bottle of white wine £12 Order of hummus, haloumi, cack and lamb kebab: £19 Having an amazing answer (and shocking photo evidence) to the question: "Where were you when you found out Michael Jackson died?" Priceless.

My family and I were around the area when we stumbled upon this gem. Not only is the food delicious, but the service goes above and beyond. The servers are attentive, so you won't have to worry about long waits & the food comes out in a timely manner. There was a specific gentleman that made our night even better! (I wasn't able to catch his name but he was wearing a black NY Yankees hat) He was very friendly, checked up on our table throughout the evening, and even escorted us out upon our departure. To be honest, I'm visiting from Las Vegas and service in the UK (and all over EU) is so different compared to home. However, the staff here definitely reminded me that you can get the same great service in the UK. The actual set up of the restaurant is great. It's fairly large, and extremely clean. The restroom was spacious, and even had a diaper changing table in there (this is definitely hard to find in the UK). Also; the restaurant itself is disable friendly, the entrance door is on a ramp, and there's plenty of space to go around the place with a wheelchair. Plus, it's only about a 7-10 minute walk from the nearest underground station.

Ok so the decor wasn't trendy - it was essentially faux-wood tables crammed into a large rectangular hall - but that wasn't what we needed. We ordered starters to share (free additional bread with the tzatziki much appreciated) and then various versions of their shish. Unfortunately I hadn't considered all the extra delights that come with a main course - a mountain of delicious salad, salsa, bread and more - and was essentially stuffed before I reached the actual food. Ordinarily in these circumstances I'd advise ordering less, but the friendly staff were happy to give us our left over wraps packaged up. Along with the food I also took away the knowledge that tzatziki is pronounced with a G. So in summary, visit Urfa Ocakbasi, order more than you need, feast for days on delicious Turkish food!
