This is one of my favorite Vietnamese restaurants in the area. I would consider it a Vietnamese/Thai fusion, because you can find a lot of dishes of both ethnicities. They have delicious and rich Thai tea that's not overly creamy like a lot of places nearby. I was pretty stunned when some of the restaurants asked me if I wanted whipped cream on top. They have the most amazing fried wontons. A must must try! I also like their working man noodles, and pad Thai. Their soups are really solid as well. The food is always very fresh and consistent. They do close for a brief period between lunch and dinner, so plan for that. read more

It's been awhile since I've been here but I can't has been awhile since I've been here but will become a staple in my rotation. The beef larb hot spice level was delicious. Flavor packed with tender beef and fresh vegetables simply amazing. The combo pho was delicious packed with flavor tender steak , juicy meat balls with plenty of noodles with a great broth. Our waitress Pam was amazing. She was knowledgeable and willing to suggest things to try. She attended to our every need. The owner and chef Keith came out and talked with us and he even made me a fried catfish salad that isn't on the menu. That is what I call great service in a small quant little hole in the wall. I'm still wondering how this place gets stars! ‍ The place needs renovating BAD! The glass top table had tape around the edges to cover the chips that my sweater got caught on! It's old & dark and dingy! The service was SLOW... The tea tasted spoiled with a lingering smoke taste (the waitress said that's how Thai tea taste but it was so bad it lingered about 15 minutes after the sip) I ordered a Diet Coke but make sure to drink it slow since there are no refills! The food had NO seasoning at all! The spring rolls were hard and no taste! Be careful walking in because the beautiful flowers that I've admired for years are covered in sharp thorns so bad that a warning sign should be put on the walkway! (Joking...not joking!) This was my first and last time coming here! The only reason I give it 2 stars is because it has many vegan options which seems to be hard to find in Lafayette restaurants. read more

Thought my buddy punked me. He told me to get the beef larb medium spicy. It is the worst smelling dish was afraid to even taste it. But I did and it tastes nothing like the dumpster it smells like. But due to the smell I can not order it again. I honestly feel like I have to take a shower after it. I literally washed my face with soap in the bathroom. It's that bad! But it is actually really good and bright. Had the egg rolls and very fresh and good with a nice sweet sauce. Had the mango sticky rice and that too was great with the biggest piece of mango I've seen for it. No one there which you think would be telling but it's good. Will go back for other things. Mae Sone Noodle House is a little local place that is tucked into the back part of a tiny strip of stores on Johnston Street, near its junction with Ambassador Caffery. It is worth seeking out though, as it is one of those local hole in the wall places that you will end up telling your friends about. The sign out front says it serves Thai, Vietnamese, and Laotian food. It certainly has a interesting menu, with choices ranging from classic Chinese-American dishes, to Phos and other soups, but the main attraction for me is the noodles. These noodle dishes include salads that are tossed at table-side, to stir fries, and classics from Thai cuisine. This is a little local place that appears family run, and has been in business for years. It certainly seems like they have perfected their menu. There are some great appetizers that you should try along with your meal. One excellent add-on that I highly recommend is Vietnamese Coffee, which can be had hot or iced. This strong rich brew drips into your glass while you wait, then when it is done you stir then enjoy. read more

I was greeted by a sweet hostess who told us sit anywhere. To my dismay, there was a big group talking loudly in their native language. I was hoping that they would lower their voices due to other customers eating around them. Even with the noise, I really enjoyed my meal. The crispy wontons tasted delightful with the sweet and sour sauce. I was pleasantly surprised that there was meat in it instead of cream cheese. I also tried some deed fried meatballs which were pretty good with the spicy/tangy sauce. I am always open to trying new things so I ordered ladna with mookab as my entrée. The deep fried bacon was absolutely stunning. I loved the crunch as I bit into it. The waitress suggested we try some garlic sauce and chili sauce with the dish which made it even better. Only thing upsetting about our visit is that this is the first time I've ever been there in my many years coming to Lafayette. But better late than never! I went with a Chinese native speaking friend and she really loved it too. We had a beautiful and very rounded flavored Tom Yum soup (#56) to start - easily fed the four of us. It was better than most I've had because of some nice recipe additions that balanced the sour. What a treat - I'm already craving it again. The Pad Kee Mow (#14) (wide noodle) was spot on perfect and flavorful and just the right amount of heat. For me it's a must get. The Pad Siew w Beef (#20) - another hit - a totally different flavor profile from the Kee Mao. The spring rolls and egg rolls were fresh and large - 2 per order enough for 4 people per plate. Can't go wrong with the Mae Sone Fried rice (#15) - has that fresh made char flamed flavor. Friendly and fast service. To me a home run! Seriously can't wait to go back. read more

I've never actually eaten anything besides their papaya salad. And I've only gotten it to go, so I have no comments about their service or other foods. But what I do know, I know with the utmost confidence. Mae Sone makes the best Laos papaya salad that I've ever had in Louisiana. For sure. I get it with the green beans and very spicy. It has so much flavor, but it is definitely stinky. But that's the way it's supposed to be. My bf can't eat very spicy, so I get the "regular spicy" for him and it still has a kick, but you won't be running to the fridge for milk. It's a little over $12 per order, but so worth it. The to go order comes with some Laos beef jerky and cabbage or lettuce. I call in a few orders every time I'm in Lafayette. I just can't pass it up. But they aren't open between the hours of 2 and 5 so plan accordingly. You won't regret it! read more

Glad I stopped by for lunch, this is a great hole in the wall noodle place. Although they have Chinese foods on the menu, it seems more like a Thai and Vietnamese joint. Decided to get an extra large bowl of rice noodle soup with mixed seafood and pork. The broth was packed with flavor, a little lime, Basil, chili oil, and garlic oil added made the broth perfect. The xtra large bowl is huge, definitely enough for two people. The waitress was super friendly and very attentive. If there is one complaint, it's that it's pretty hot in there. Mae Sone Noodle House first opened its doors in the late 1990's, and after having moved away and back to Lafayette again, I'm happy to report that it's still the best Asian restaurant in town! MSNH offers a wide variety of Asian dishes that is sure to make everyone happy - everything on the menu is delicious! I am particularly fond of the "Poor Man's Fried Noodles" - a sweet and savory rice noodle dish that I haven't been able to find anywhere else. We decided to stop by here for dinner the other night since we saw different businesses in the strip mall while visiting Baskin-Robbins one day. The restaurant was clean and we liked the general vibe. We went during a time where it was pretty empty and quiet, which we liked, and then quite a few groups of people showed up by the time we left. Service was great and the food was even better; it was really impressive that we ordered all sorts of various types of cuisine and it all ended up being pretty delicious. We will definitely go back. The only minor downside was no kids menu, but our daughter was happy with the fried chicken she got so it all worked out. read more
