This spot was the only restaurant open during first night of the winter storm 02/15. It looked to a be husband and wife duo only that night and boy were they cranking out orders. You are able to enter the restaurant, instead there's a plexiglass window used to talk and retrieve food. The lady was so kind and cheery! Made me feel all warm inside especially since we went when it was chilly and raining outside! My family and I tried some of the many vegetarian options. Specifically, we ordered the vegetable lo mein, broccoli and green beans, vegetable chow fun, and bean curd. Everything was very tasty, not too salty, and good portions for the price! It came out quickly and fresh! There are coupons on the back of the menu and we used one that gave us a free egg drop soup with a purchase over $20. The egg drop soup was only mediocre, but it was free so can't really complain too much! We definitely had a good amount of leftovers to eat the next day. Both my father and I got the lunch special of Sweet and Sour Chicken, the Sweet & Sour sauce was heated and came with pork fried rice and a choice of soup or egg roll. I picked Egg Drop Soup and also opted to add an egg roll for only $1. Every lunch meal was about $6, and the food was good, but was on par with fast food or mall chinese food. The woman who greets you and takes your order couldn't have been nicer or more welcoming. The sweet & sour chicken was good, there was a lot of breading, around the chicken. After grabbing lunch at China One for the first time, I'd say the food was above average but not astounding. I got the Szechuan Style Shrimp with pork fried rice, pork egg roll, and egg drop soup. The egg drop soup was amazing, easily one of the best I've ever had. The Szechuan Shrimp however was just okay. The portions were filling but it was mainly vegetables. There was 4 (16-20) count shrimp and it was pretty obvious that it wasn't Louisiana Gulf Shrimp. The sauce was okay, not super flavorful, I'd like to try some of the more common sauces next time. The egg roll was large but had so little pork that it really needs to just be called a vegetable egg roll. The texture was great though, nice and crispy. Last but not least is the pork fried rice. Plenty of pork in the rice, it had a great flavor, but I personally like my fried rice with more soy sauce and grease. It was an above average fried rice but not near the top either. The lady working the counter spoke great English and was super friendly. This place is favored by a lot of people and I can assure you the customer service plays a big part in it. Been coming here for a long time now, and this is easily one of my favorite American Chinese restaurants in the area! All the classics are here, like General Tso's chicken and Hunan Shrimp. Sweet and sour everything. They even offer a selection of grilled meat options with steamed rice, if you're trying to watch the calories. Staff is very friendly! Food is served quick and is usually out in 5 minutes, maybe 10 at the most on a busy day. Dining in is an option, though seating is limited. The lunch specials are very reasonably priced! The facility itself is kept clean, but very basic in decor. Great location and convenient for UL and SLCC students, as well as those working nearby in downtown or the Oil Center. Where to start. I'm probably like most people that when they move to a new city, and new house- the lack of silverware and cooking utensils forces you to search for good Chinese food. Listen, I've found it in China One. I was around the corner so I went in to place my order to go. Super friendly front counter, a menu of items you recognize- and I realize it's mostly Americanized Chinese, and I'm okay with that! But the food, seriously. THE FOOD. Is better than great. I had the Mongolian beef and a pork egg roll, my husband got the General Tso's chicken and Sweet and Sour chicken. Mine was tender, the beef was cooked perfectly and the carmelized onions with it was to die for. Pork egg roll was average I'd say, but good. No flash frozen chicken in the hubs dinner either, actual distinguishable chicken in the General Tso's. The best part? Hot, fresh, and ready in just 10 little minutes from when I placed my order. Honestly the only reason I would deduct a .25 of a star if I could is I asked for chop sticks and didn't get any so we had to use some left over silverware packs I had rolling around in my glovebox to eat it- but if you have less manners than I, going in face first isn't out of the question with the quality of food. Love their fried and steamed dumplings -- it's one of the only Chinese restaurants left in town that make their own.

I guess the one star is for effort because they did try again with something else. The food had no taste and the noodles were drowned in "sauce" that seemed a colored corn starch mixture. I love this place. It's cheap, quick, and has huge portions. Much of the menu is Americanized Chinese, as you should expect, but the food is solid and I can often get a light second meal out of my order. Their honey chicken wings are falling off the bone tender and they're a little messy, so grab extra napkins! They're delicious. Great people run the place, I always ask for hot & sour soup as my soup option and they've never upcharged me for the substitution. I considered giving three stars, as to me certain dishes weren't too flavorful. We had the kung pow chicken and it wasn't very spicy. That's surprising considereing the area they are in. The reason why i went with 4 stars is because the portions were huge. You really should share a dish with someone. The General Tso's was what you would expect. It's americanized chinese, so you won't be super surprised, but it's pretty good food, it's pretty affordable, and the people are very nice. I love this place, It is my favorite chinese place in town. The owners are very nice and pretty quick. The food always tastes fresh and plentiful. Prices are good, and really the whole atmosphere is very laid back. I love picking up take out on days I don't feel like cooking, nor going out to eat. And yes sometimes there is a little bit of a language barrier, but nothing beats the good all "point at the menu" method, which is pretty extensive.
