Sadly, they did not but I understood the explanation. We ordered corn fritters, vegetable tempura, hand fried spring rolls, green curry with tofu, pad Thai, and a Tiger beer. It was good. I'm glad it was so good because it is not fast. Which means someone is actually cooking the food. Which we need to appreciate more. So go there when you're with someone whose company you enjoy and you aren't in a hurry. Sit. Have a beer or two and wait. It's coming and it'll be good. It's also good because it isn't TOO anything. My friend wanted more seasoning and asked if it would be rude to ask for salt or something. I decided that it would. This is a family spot. "You go tell him his wife's food isn't to your liking", I joked while savoring my dish. This man wanted to ask for salt or (gasp) soy sauce(!) and he had eaten the decorative vegetables on the plate. It was good solid Thai food. The server was kind and celebrated my sloppy attempts at speaking Thai. The spot is not what you'd expect, it's homey, the ceiling and walls covered in standard cultural decor but it gave speakeasy. Like a place the mob would frequent. Quiet, comfortable, private, and low traffic. This should he a neighborhood favorite.

I'll be honest the more involve I got in to this conversation the more I had a craving for a Chinese buffet, so what did I do, I hid until the sun came down and out I went in search for my closet Chinese buffet fix. Yes just like that a simple conversation through yelp led me to a table with a fork in my hands within hours. Josy A. said I should be disappointed with the quality of the food I find which was sound advise to be honest as I was out to satisfy "the eternal hunger" that was a upon me. The second I've entered this place and the first time was not good it was bad but this time was different I had "the eternal hunger" which will last forever until my craving was satisfied for Chinese. I'd almost forgot this place is not Chinese it's a selection of pan Asia dishes ranging from Thai to Indian , which also had a barbecue station for grilled meet and veg as well as a man bread station that cooked the nan bread fresh in front if you. For £15 this is a good buffet purely because it was cheaper than the amount discussed in our thread but also the vast selection of food on offer. I feel my tip was accurate when I said indulge and overload, as I am now suffering from a pan Asia food coma onslaught all because I took Tim L's thread a little too far.

The server was patient and kind. she explained items on the menu and even gave suggestions which turned out to be one of my favorites. The restaurant was clean and quiet. I always like to add a tidbit about the bathrooms (it is said that bathrooms in restaurants usually are an indication of the cleanliness of the kitchen). this bathroom was exceptionally clean with modern decor... overall I had a nice experience...

What you need to know is that Mantanah is way way down in Crystal Palace, run by a wonderful group of Thais and serving dishes that are just right on every level and with fresh ingredients flown in weekly from Thailand. Jackfruit, mango, coconut, banana blossom and bamboo shoots - it's a place for a foodie day trip. Trust me. It's cheap, flavourful, homely and authentic. The menu is long and full of surprises and some of the more obscure yet rewarding Thai dishes from the far North, the fiery East or the dirty South. If it's noodles you're after, they can't be beat. Curries; again, they excel. And if you're vegetarian then this will be HEAVEN for you. With almost as many meat-free dishes as the rest of the menu, with fun names and interesting flavours. Our meal was starters of fish cakes, satay and duck spring rolls, followed by coconut rice with a hot Northern chicken curry with peanuts and tumeric, an amazing dish of pork and young jackfruit and a scorching sweet red curry of pork and coconut flesh. Every mouthful tasted just right, and our only regret was not trying the rest of the menu. A recent addition to Mantanah is a phrase guide for Thai on each table, so if you'd like to learn a few words then get here for a meal. In fact, if you're heading to Thailand for any reason soon then a preparatory meal at Mantanah is a must. My dining companion and I don't need to know what's what though... we know Mantanah is Aroi Maak Maak.

Oh I am so disappointed to have to write this update. After the last time we went, we thought we'd…read moretry it again. We walked in early on a Friday evening (7.15pm) and got a table (with the proviso that we could only have it for 2 hours, which was fine). We sat down and were immediately asked what we wanted - we actually needed a few minutes to settle and think, but we ordered diet coke to buy ourselves some time. We ordered some food and waited - it took quite a long time, so we ordered some prawn crackers. They arrived instantly, I mean the waitress turned round, grabbed them and put them back on our table. We were chatting away, so I dunked one in the sauce and ate it without really paying attention. The sauce tasted really odd, so I asked what it was. "Chicken and peanut" was the answer. Seeing as we had ordered vegetarian dishes, I thought that was quite a risk - also no warning about the peanut sauce? Since thai prawn crackers usually come with chilli sauce, I was slightly bemused - I assume it was someone else's mistaken order since it was ready instantly and cold. Anyway, we moved on to our main course. My sister ate some of her steamed rice and pulled a long black hair out of her mouth. It was not ours... then lifted a spoonful of the vegetarian red curry up to see another hair dangling from the spoonful. I called the manager over and explained that I would pay for the diet coke and the prawn crackers, but that we were leaving now and not paying for the main course. She agreed that our experience was unacceptable and didn't charge us for anything. We left and went next door to Joanna's, which was absolutely wonderful. We will never be going back there.

Wow, very mixed reviews for this place!…read more We came in for a very early dinner and shared a bunch of dishes. Fish cakes and chicken wings were tasty. The green curry with shrimp was creamy and had a nice kick. The pad thai was also good. The only slightly odd dish was the duck. The duck breast slices were battered and deep fried and then stir fried with onions and peppers. I liked the peppercorns but the duck was of varying consistency - some were tender, others were dry and leathery, like beef jerky. It wasn't bad by any means as I quite liked both but I'm not sure what the 'normal' preparation is supposed to be like. The service was polite and attentive. Nothing bad to say about Tamnag. We had a good experience!
