Allow me to explain - that white piece of stereotypically boring, tough, dry meat is a tradition to keep your mouth occupied so you don't push your second cousin out of the closet at the dinner table by accident and is an impressive dish for the table. AMIRITE? I wasn't sure what to expect when my sister ordered a whole smoked goose online from Schlitz and had it shipped to my office. Having the hickory chip-smoked bird for Thanksgiving dinner was a brilliant idea. Fully cooked and big as a small turkey. The only instructions were to reheat in the oven at 350 degrees for an hour before serving. While the goose was getting warmed up, we whipped up all the sides and dinner was ready in an hour. Interestingly, the meat was red and the texture reminded me of pastrami. It was moist, healthy like duck and chicken, and simply delicious. Even more so was the drumstick. That meat off the bone was definitely worth it to fight over. It also went well with our freshly prepared cranberry sauce. Besides all that good meat, you can render the goose fat to cook your potatoes or vegetables or store for later use. The crispy skin turned into crackling and it was addictive...like crack! We ate all the skin off that bird that night. The ordering experience my sister had with Schlitz seemed normal as expected. Customer service was real-time, American, and reachable. My sister called Schlitz to request a delay in the shipping by a few days because of my out-of-office plans, and they happily obliged. She got the tracking number right away and the bird was delivered earlier than expected. No problems. Would we do this again? As long as we are hosting Thanksgiving, we'll definitely have smoked goose again!
