This past trip, we picked up a handle of Tito's vodka, gin, whiskey, bourbon, wine, Grain Belt, and more to restock the cabin. They even had a few of my favorite inexpensive wines! We visited on a Wednesday evening & were suprised to find that Cork & Cask features complimentary wine tastings daily during store hours. How nice! The selection of beer & wine included many options we had not experienced including chocolate espresso wine, Climber wine (wine in a pouch w/ a caribeener)a huge variety of local beer & distinctive imports. There were also various wine & beer gifts spread throughout the store. The wine tasting, coupled with meat & cheese samples from the neighboring Accentric Home Store & Deli, it was a nice way to start the evening & to experience all the Cork & Cask had to offer. Since I've gotten older, (aka, legal age of drinking), I've dabbled here and there with different wines and whatnot. This visit to my family's gave me the opportunity to try and test different varieties and regions. This brings us to Hyvee Wines. As an add-on store across the "highway" from the real Hyvee, this store is freaking awesome. The wines are categorized by region, while other parts are categorized by types. Although this makes things slightly more difficult, it allowed me to actually browse through types of wines I'm not so familiar with. There was even an entire column dedicated to South Dakota wines! Although as tempting as it sounded, I think I'll stick with French and Italian wines for now. The gist of what I'm getting at is that, for being a typical wine shop in South Dakota, they could boast more than 5x the amount of wines I would be able to find in my typical wine shop in NYC.
