When I went to pick up the car, I realized that the contract had the Generic HONDA CRV on the top, without the model name, just a vin number which was how I was supposed to identify the vehicle. Not Acceptable. When I asked about a feature of the Touring, Matt answered, "oh you don't get that with your model". That's how I found out I was not getting what I thought. Our experience with Chad Sanders at Madison Honda had to have been the most easy, less stressful, process I have ever experienced. This was our first time getting a car like this. We were used to the craigslist life and getting old cars from strangers on the streets. Chad was aware of our stresses and urgency of a car, especially since my husband was hurt from a car accident. Besides getting a loaner car I was ripped off for service at this location. Do not come here for service. They charge labor for every single fluid that goes in the car when other service center include it. The invoice doesn't break down the prices well so they can charge whatever price they want and hide it within other prices. Paid over $500 for some dealer package. Oh where to begin....my car was bucking on the highway....my local mechanic said to take it to a dealer. They took in in for diagnostics ($150) and I left. 11 months later the bucking resurfaced and I come back to get an estimate of $1100 to fix the problem.....I have no choice.... I pick up the car and drive less than one mile and it bucks (think I'm happy at being taken and that the car obviously was not road tested?). I bring it back and they hold the a car for a week and after telling me it's ready I get another bill for $1400 (so now I'm in $2500). I ask to speak to a manager and he is conveniently unavailable as he is in the bathroom so I say I'll wait. Then the cashiers cell phone (not the business phone) rings and I can hear the voice of someone saying "there is no charge". My question is simple.....if I had handed my credit card over with out asking for a manager would there have been no charge? I had really hoped to have a positive experience at Madison Honda because of the convenience of the location to me; unfortunately, that was not remotely the case. Currently, Madison Honda is marking the price of cars up to 30% above MSRP on the most popular models. Just about every car on the lot is marked up in some way. I was quoted almost 60K for a Honda CRV Hybrid - that's absolute insanity. Even more ridiculous? Their "sister" location in Phillipsburg offers the exact same cars for MSRP and you can work with them to get something off sticker! I understand that many dealers are not budging on the MSRP of popular cars because of supply and demand but a 30% markup is ridiculous. The sales associate I worked with tried to suggest I should feel good if he took it down to only 20% above MSRP. The associate also showed me the "true value" of the car, yet still wanted to charge me more! I went home and requested quotes via AAA - Madison Honda sent me a quote. You can print out the quote and the dealer is supposed to honor the offer. The quote Madison Honda sent me through AAA was lower on the exact car I looked at! The associate I worked with reached out to me after I received the AAA quote and told me the price dropped as I walked out the door; it was still above MSRP. Really, just take the 40 minute drive to the Phillipsburg Easton Honda (their sister dealership) you'll save 15K and have a far superior sales experience. Also the sales rep I worked with was rude, aggressive, spoke down to me, and frankly, I think tried to take advantage of me because I am a woman. I had a very pleasant experience with Steve Dann selecting and purchasing a 3 year old low milage honda pilot after my 7 year old pilot was totaled in an accident. I am a Florida resident who summers in NJ and had the accident on our way to NJ. I am less satisfied with their registration process as I asked to have the old registration transferred to the new purchase so that i can maintain a FL vanity license plate. They refused and are issuing a new registration and license. This means I have to return the plate immediately to avoid having my drivers license voided by the state of Florida, and will have to apply for a new vanity plate in October. My call to Fl DMV said that transfer of registration is not difficult and costs $5. It could be more complicated from out of state I guess. I also was offered a Honda Care package while signing forms and paying for the vehicle. A one sheet broad description was all i was given or shown in writing. No long form description of the package was offered but it had to be elected immediately on a used car purchase. They apparently do not really want to sell this coverage or I would have been given a written description during the 5 day period when the car was being Honda certified before i gqave final approval and payment. This honda has to be down right one of the best honda dealerships I have ever been to (and i've been to quite a lot). Let me start from the beginning. I needed to get a timing belt done as well as a lot of fluid changes and after checking out multiple different places, Honda had the best prices as well as a 15% of services coupon so I figured why not. I called a week and a half prior to book an appointment (they are usually booked all week so make sure to call at least a week beforehand so that they can fit you in). On the day of, I mistakenly thought my appointment was at 9:30 but it was at 9am but they were chill about it and accepted me anyway. They automatically noticed we had a recall for our passenger seat airbags so they did that for us on the spot. The service is impeccable. Everyone is super sweet and super helpful. After we booked our car with the car mechanic, we went inside where they gave us an uber to go home since they said they wouldn't be done with our car until 4/4:30pm. While waiting for the uber, we went upstairs where they had multitude variety of snacks as well as drinks (my mom and I got the hot chocolate-soo good). If we didn't get an uber, they do have wifi as well as many different tv stations on so that you can keep yourself occupied while waiting. Once the uber arrived, we left to go home. At 4/4:30pm, I got a call that my car was done so they came and picked me up at around 4:45/5pm (traffic). I picked up my car, quick payment, and came home. And man, that ride home was great. My car felt like a new car! This place definitely knows what they are doing, and 10/10 I will come back! read more

Beware Madison Honda Service, especially if you're female! My most recent experience was negative. They wanted to charge me $540 for a repair which I eventually had done at Joyce Honda for $325.67! My car alarm was going off loudly on its own. I drove to Madison Honda. Within 2 hours they diagnosed it. A defective front hood latch needed to be replaced so it would not set off the alarm. They charged me nothing for the diagnosis, which was a positive. The advisor, Sean Murray, explained they would need to order the part, which was non-refundable. He wrote everything down for me. Their estimate for the total to replace the hood latch was $540! This included a 10% discount. I said my husband could take care of it when he returned and left with the estimate. I then called Joyce Honda on Route 10 in Denville. Their estimate for the same work was significantly less. They ordered the part, installed it and provided shuttle service to take me back and forth while they were working on the car. The total cost: $325.67! One of the reasons Madison Honda had for the high price was that they said they would need to take the bumper off. As far as I can tell, the bumper is not close to the hood latch. Regardless, I was told by others that removing and replacing the bumper is not time-consuming. I have no idea if they would have estimated less if I had been a man. I am in the market for a newer vehicle. I spotted a GMC pick-up at Madison Honda. I went over the weekend to look it over and I liked it. I noted that it was 2020 with 25,801 miles on the vehicle. I went to their web site and looked up the listing noting that they lowered the price a little however the miles were at 25,801 on the web site. I went for a test drive and noted that the real mileage was 32,351??? When I questioned this the salesman stated that they must have forgotten to update the mileage on their web site. The spec sheet in the window also shows 25,801. They played the pricing game with me and I eventually walked out. This is a deceptive practice. I spent the better part of a small fortune for service at Madison Honda. Madison Honda recommended numerous services on all parts of the vehicle, including work to be performed on the wheels and brakes. Despite the exorbitant cost, I consented to Madison Honda to perform their recommended services as I wanted my vehicle to be in top shape and all issues to be addressed. After receiving my vehicle back from Madison Honda, I was shocked to find a ping pong ball in my car. I guess the Madison Honda mechanics enjoy playing ping pong in customers' cars. Immediately after Madison Honda completed their service, I literally drove straight to Costco Tire, since they rotate my tires for free. To my absolute horror, the Costco professionals advised me to immediately take my car in for service with a full-service auto shop because Costco identified issues with the wheels. Really? I had just paid several thousand dollars at Madison Honda and drove STRAIGHT to Costco Tire. Not once did Madison Honda identify the issues, nor did they fix them. They were quick to accept my several thousand dollars of payment though. However apparently all I got in return for my money was a ping pong ball! So disappointed! read more

The price I was quoted for the repairs was 5x more than what I had previously been quoted that I had them stop after the diagnostics and took my business elsewhere. I told the service rep that I would be waiting upstairs and he told me that it should be done within 2 hours and they would call me if there were any issues. After waiting two and a half hours, I went down to see how much longer it would be. After hemming and hawing for a bit, the same rep finally proceeds to tell me that there was a "mis-communication" and that the car hadn't even begun to be serviced. There was barely an apology. That's the end of my association with Madison Honda. It's the 2nd time this year that something has disappointed. My last service I pointedly asked them to be sure to do something only to find that it wasn't done. This kind of unprofessionalism is completely unacceptable. They also don't provide a pleasant place to wait and you're surrounded by boorish sales reps shouting and goofing off with each other. There's no reason to have to tolerate this nonsense. The tech in the shop said they regretted "misdiagnosing" the problem and they looked further into potential causes to find a burned out fuse and some wiring that needed replacing. It was fixed and two days post repair appears resolved. I wasn't charged for the second go round which I felt was the proper way to handle the issue. Service does solid work. I was also provided a loaner car and eventually, a refund of what I considered to be above and beyond reasonable charges. But the customer service needs improvement. I only agreed to have my car serviced because I was promised it would be finished the next day after dropping it off on a Monday. I did not see my vehicle again until Saturday. I cannot count the number of times I was put on hold when calling for updates, and the advisor claimed to have called me which did not happen at all. The price of the work also jumped approximately $200 more than the estimate with all taxes and fees included. I had already agreed to more than 10x that amount at the time of submitting my car for repair. So, needless to say I was surprised when an additional 5% was added to the repair. Thankfully, the additional amount was eventually resolved after the fact. I understand that dealerships have the advantage given the current shortage of parts and cars. And dealership service typically costs a premium in general. But having been a customer of Madison Honda since 2014, I'm stunned at how poor the customer service was. Review of Car Repair and Service I recently brought my car in for a warranty issue. This place is all about ripping you off. T, the service manager will squirm out of ever giving any helpful information over the phone and she'll try her hardest to convince you bring the car in for their $350 diagnostic fee. Obviously, once they diagnose your car, their going to jack up the price. You'll be reluctant to leave since they say they'll waive the $350 if you do the work there. That's their scam. If you're looking for some great mechanics in the area, who won't try to rip you off, there is A&J Automotive in Vauxhall (best) and Exxon Prospect in West Orange. Both places are sometimes busy due to their superior service but it's a much better place than the dealership. read more

What can you say about getting your car serviced at a dealership? The convenience is the clincher here. Service is quick, staff are welcoming and easy to work with, mechanics get the job done. Great loaner cars available. However, be prepared to pay through the nose for service. Of course, labor fees are very high, but beware the parts charges are marked up more than 50% above MSRP. For example, they quoted me $980 to put on a new set of tires, including $150 for 4-wheel alignment. Without alignment, it's still $150 more than other tire shops in the area and $240 more than what I paid at a local tire shop for the same tires and service. Also, with my recent big service, we noticed I had a headlight bulb out on my car as I was getting into my loaner. Tech tells me he'll put in a new bulb and won't charge me a labor fee. Guess what. They charge $47 for a light bulb that cost me $17 at Clinton Honda parts dept a few weeks before when the other light was out. They charge $30 for the same bulb in the Madison Honda parts dept (also telling me they won't charge a labor fee), so there is your 50% over MSRP mark-up (don't do me any favors). Looking at my total service bill, all of the parts were marked up like that. Gave me a free oil change this time and a free one for my next service and a 5% discount, but that is basically equal to the amount they marked up the parts, so it's not really a discount. This is what I get for repairing my car at a dealer and not negotiating more effectively when I am nervous about getting my car fixed before a road trip over the holidays. read more

After hanging up with Dave I received a call back about 5 mins later , it was Dave explaining that they didn't have the si on the lot, I said no problem what do you have that's similar and he explained they had two civic type r models a 2020 and 2019 , even though these vehicles where $12000 above the msrp of the si model I was seriously considering spending the extra money for the sportier car. Dave kept my slot for the test drive on Friday afternoon and told me to ask for him when I arrived. Friday afternoon I showed up to the front desk of Honda of Madison and asked for mr volpe after driving 20 mins from livingston Area. The receptionist asked what I was here to test drive and I gave her all the information on the vehicle, she ushered us to the waiting area and went to find Dave. Ten minutes later we were greated by the salesperson Louis who again asked what I was there to drive, I said the civic type r. Louis took one look at me and told me I can show you the car but YOU can't test drive it . I almost thought I didn't hear him right I asked him to explain why I couldn't test drive the vehicle I had an appointment scheduled for and he said well it's Honda's policy. Louise clearly took one look at me with my backwards cap and more youthful style of casual clothes and decided that I wasn't the "serious" buyer he was looking for, it was clear that Louise didn't think I had the capital to purchase such a vehicle. He quickly explained that the type r was a collectors item and that I would have to buy it to drive it. At this point I was so disgusted I had to walk out. After a quick call to the sales manger on the way home he also explained and told me that only serious buyers could purchase this vehicle that knew its capabilities already. After all said and done I couldn't believe that Honda would make such a discriminatory policy so I put in a call to corporate headquarters, well guess what, this is not Honda's policy and they were very taken back that it even happened they filed a complaint on this dealership and apologized multiple times they assured me that it would be taken care of and thanked me for reporting my incident. Clearly Madison Honda does not want to sell vehicles and if you don't fit there normal clientele profile they will have nothing to do with you. Steer clear of this location. read more
