I consider this a lil gem, the golf course I'm talking about. I make sure to avoid any aeration's and beside that, greens are always nice. The only public courses I've played locally are riverside, pheasant, dragonfly, and here. This is and pheasant are my favorite. You couldn't get me to go to Riverside, and dragonfly is not nice enough for the price. Don't even have ball washers. Came out just to drive the golf cart while my boyfriend played golf. It was my first time here and I liked it! It's a nice, fun course. They have water stations at some of the holes that you can refill your water bottle. We purchased a drink from the restaurant. The one I ordered was good, you could taste the alcohol too. My friend ordered a different drink and hers was too sweet. The staff who took our order though didn't remember how to make the drinks so she went to get else to make them. This golf course just likes scamming its customers. We checked in for our tee time and were told it was back nine only, cart path only, and that the 10th tee was pushed up in the middle of the fairway (100yrd). The reason I say it's a scam is because nowhere online or on the bulletin were we warned about this. Our tee time was at 10:40, and we weren't able to tee off until 11:10 because it was so backed up. This is the third time they have done this and I'm done coming here. Go to chowchilla and play pheasant run so you get your money worth. read more

Far too often you will show up expecting play 18, but have to play the back 9 twice or have multiple holes under construction. They do not note on their website when they do this making you stuck to play. Course can be fun when they don't things like this. read more

Same experience as Rodrigo L. in previous review written below. 5 Hispanic males. Nobody waiting on us from behind, with a group of 5 about 150 out from the green, we're in the Tee box. Course Marshall asks why we're waiting as he's driving directly In front of us. Just the way he approached us and proceeded to talk to us was extremely condescending. Not only did we feel unwelcome, but we felt targeted and embarrassed. Two holes later, while keeping a great pace on the people in front of us, the smaller ginger guy that works there asks why our group is soo big and questions our pace of play as we're waiting for the group ahead to get off the green. I understand basic course etiquette, played at plenty of high end courses for work and leisure. Never have I experienced this. I don't think I personally ever experienced racism until this passed weekend. This was honestly a great reflection of the staff and their values. 30 years old and I've finally been racially profiled along with my tios and cousins. I've spent plenty of hard earned money here, just to be treated like a second class citizens at this course. If you're of Latin descent, or anything other than Caucasian, prepare to be harassed, belittled, and made to feel lesser than simply as a result of the color of your skin. Sugar Pine Steakhouse. I gave it a 3. When I heard they had moved out here to the golf course I truly was expecting the restaurant that we love. To my shock It was a scaled down menu to fit the needs of the golf course. After a few drinks I am sure a quick luncheon would taste good. Please don't waste your time here. Ignorant/racist management and staff. I reserved 2 tee off times as I planned to bring a couple of my employees to a nice gesture and relax. Of course they were running behind schedule once we arrived. We were a group of 5 playing behind 3 very gifted players. While we were on hole 2, a staff member (older gentleman) approached us and was very rude and unprofessional. Just talking to me like if I were a little kid. The group ahead of us was 2 hits ahead of us and were being told to catch up. Not even 10 minutes later the so called manager approached us and told us to catch up. He kicked us off the course and wouldn't give me any proof of a reimbursement. This was clearly targeting because a group of 5 Hispanic males that are not great players apparently don't fit in at their golf course. This does not end here. I will do all in my hands to escalate this so that others don't have to experience what we experienced today. This is absolutely not ok in todays world. We're not in the 60's anymore. And for that older gentlemen that's staff and talked to me the way he did, the man upstairs sees it all. read more

We went for lunch, food was ok. However, we will not return! We forgot sunglasses on the table, no one else was there while we ate, just the workers so there was no one else to steal the glasses. When we went back the workers conveniently hadn't seen the glasses and didn't keep them in a lost and found. I'm sure one of the workers are enjoying some nice sunglasses. Untrustworthy. read more

As some may already know, the sugar pine smoke house is now at the municipal golf course. We'll we just dropped in for a drink and enjoyed the ambiance. The crew were so pleasant and they make you feel very welcomed. They are the same people from the old sugar pine restaurant. So you know what their menu is like. We ordered the beef nachos, they were delicious! I'm pretty sure there were lick marks on the empty plate when we finished! If you get a chance make it a point to drop by , I know you will enjoy it. I have played Here a few times and while the facility is great, the manager's customer service has been abysmal. This is the main reason I don't play here more than I would prefer. I have had two separate run ins with him. One where I was told he did not care about my or my father's safety when randomly adding people to pay with us. (Not on a busy day) The other he was just flat out rude when I asked if a club that I left on a green was turned in. I see on here that I am not the only one who has had issues. For a golf course with the quality that this place has you would think you'd get better service. Ron is terrible, absolutely terrible. Don't schedule your tournament here!! Quick to take our $500 to play, but didn't let us play entire 1st 9 in charity 18 hole tournament shotgun scramble on 9/22/18. Humiliating experience!! Over-scheduled course with public & bounced us around to different holes w/out checking that the hole was overcrowded or caring if we'd played it already. Poor treatment towards female players & beginners. It didn't matter to them it was for charity & all skill levels. We were bullied off the course by noon. On top of that, 2 of our clubs were stolen, & it feels like Madera Municipal Golf Course has made zero effort to locate them. What should have happened - 1) All players treated with equal respect. 2) Public not scheduled during tournaments. 3) Allow players to play holes in order from where they start. 4) Give players a chance to finish. 5) Assist with keeping the pace by letting people know if they need to speed up. 6) Loosen up, realize it's for charity, all skill levels and sexes. 7) Don't make people play same 5 holes twice. 8) Don't treat women like keeping a score doesn't matter for them, because they are 2nd class citizens 'around these here parts.' 9) Change something, including your dismissive attitude of indifference, Mr. 'Pro' Shop Ron, based off the feedback you received regarding the poor experience you created for us. 10) Try harder to not to come across as chauvinist or elitist, & never treat people with such blatant disregard and disrespect. 11) Idea - Allot for more time to play in tournaments that include beginners. Beginners do not move as fast as seasoned players. Plan for it!! Attempt to rectify the aforementioned problems, such as by taking preventative measures so nothing like this happens again. Offer ways to make it up to us, like a 4-person 18 hole round of golf with 2 carts. I feel that's the least you could do to apologize, at this point, even if I probably won't use it after this horrible experience. Finally, to all golf courses around the world: Abolish the rule that women have to play on different color tee off points. It's sexist and perpetuates discrimination. It's time to evolve. read more

My Son got married here a week ago and had the reception at the Club House. Fredrico and staff was fantastic, the food was so good I didn't hear one person complain, the bar never ran out of drinks and for the non drinkers they had a full line non alcoholic drinks from soda to punch coffee and tea. This is a well kept secret and it shouldn't be these guys deserve to be known for their great work for any event. read more

Firstly I would like to say, Bravo! To the one who finally put a Marshall out on the course. Because he was there we were able to avoid slow play on course as it was very busy out there. Thank you for that. Now we will continue to play here driving 40 minutes away to get here. The clubhouse staff and restaurant staff were surprisingly pleasant and professional. Even manager was shockingly polite and professional in dealing with customers. Another Bravo there!! The person driving around with food and drinks was doing a great job making her runs across the course so we could flag her down more than once. Now I only saw one other serious issue. The restrooms next to the pro shop are reaking of horrid and almost nauseating odors to where you are fighting to breath. This golf course has beautiful designed in the buildings and landscaping and restrooms that wreak of death should not be a part of it. There doesn't seem to be any ventilation removing odors and so it just builds up inside. It would be nice if fans could be installed inside to move the air around as it gets so hot in there on days over 90 that your sweating your ass off on the john. The other less issue is the golf carts are like riding in a WW2 tank. Absolutely no comfort in them but they will do for now. Maybe some day down the road they can be replaced or at least upgraded for better comfort. Our recent visit this week was so much better which amounted to a better time. First time playing this golf course. I was surprised by how nice it was right away. Fairways were well maintained and the greens were pristine. Only down fall was that the mosquitoes were out in full force. The lady at the front desk was very nice and even showed me around the pro shop. I walked the course at about 4pm on a Saturday and paid $19. I definitely recommend this course to all players! read more

Staff was good, BUT they said we couldn't have a golf cart! What in the world?? The course is huge how could we manage without one when all the other golfers playing regular golf instead of foot golf could have one! So they finally gave us one, and keep in mind not all the holes had a flag in them so we were lost most of the time!! Then comes this old ass man(player)trying to tell us what to do and trying to make us wait for his team to play ahead of us although we were there first. They almost hit us with their ball since they got in the middle of our game! He was so annoying and we had enough of him so we left and called someone out to correct the old rude/racist man. We gave them his golf cart number and stopped playing and they retured our money. I will never go back there again! Golfers get mad because they think we are in their way !! Ron, the "manager", is a prime example of how not to be one. Unprofessional, condescending and a poor reflection of the company. We had a verbal exchange about an incident that could've been resolved with a simple and kind sentence. He chose to engage with a customer and things escalated verbally until he walked away. I called the management group and spoke with dan bacci and his response to the situation was to "look into it" and that they take these matter "seriously." Judging from previous reviews and the complaints I hear there is nothing being done. You can tell that the management trickles down from the top. Fairways are sub par, greens are ok, driving range looks like a scene out of Tin Cup, the carts feel like they're from the 60's and you get attitude from a washed up "course pro"/manager. PLEASE DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME AND MONEY HERE. This has to be the worst course in the area hands down. You can play at dragonfly golf club, a division 1 golf course for the same price. The so called manager Ron is a complete joke. He brags about being the pro of a sub par golf course and challenges customers that his golf game is better, the man is at least 70 years young and should just stay in his lane and act more professional. The carts condition are horrible they have to be the first ones ever made. Don't even bother with the range. I could see this place going under in no time. read more

This is a really nice course, we have now played it three times and the course conditions are good, nice layout and good snack bar. The only downside is the water around the course seems to bring out the Blood suckers! IE Mosquitoes They have a bunch of great monthly special prices that frankly, if we lived closer, we would take advantage of to save a little cash! read more

SGM course nice course nice layout plenty of water and risk taking hazards, but still some work to be done, a couple of the "water hazards" are (were) dry, the greens are in great shape and like most SGM courses FAST, a few of the bunkers and the rough on some holes need some attention, overall this is a nice no frills course, absolutely worth the money, but if you are driving from Modesto, I would stop at Pheasant Run in Chowchilla first (also a SGM course) If you decide to play here you wont be disappointed in the course and should have a great time read more

Where do I start? Cafè was open but no one there to serve drinks or food. Golf course opens at 6:30. First tee time 7:00 am. Bartender was there at 9:00 am to take our order. Then we ordered breakfast burritos. The egg, was freshly cooked, the bacon and hash browns were from yesterday not cooked this morning. Dry burritos no seasoning. I threw 3/4 of it away. No cart service on the course. No fresh water in dispenser no course Marshall. So we as tax paying citizens ofMadera City and County deserves better service. Management really sucked. Food was disgusting. We're charged $30. When website said $26-27 dollars. I'll send a copy to FB and Instagram. You will address this in the near council meeting. read more

This is an GREAT golf course. I went on to review what a great experience I had at this course (and always do) and became confused at the very odd/irrational review I saw before this. As a female who is familiar with the rules and etiquette of the game, I find it to be one of my favorite courses in the valley for its flexibility, friendly and professional staff and the overall condition of the course. I was also recently at a golf tournament there with many novice players and we all had a great time! The teams ran smoothly and the experienced golfers AND staff helped the newer players along. It was a great success! I even lost my phone and they helped me search for it. Turned out I left it in the pro shop. The notion that a veteran golf pro would ever "steal" someone's used clubs (male or female) sounds oddly imbalanced when they are surrounded by brand new clubs. The staff is one of the most upstanding I know! Madera municipal is a great course run by impeccably reliable, helpful and professional people from the Head Pro to the maintenance crew. I don't know if the guy in the pro shop was having a bad day or something. It was clear he did not want to be there. His attitude was bad. It was 7 AM temp in the low 40's. The practice greens were sanded and there was morning dew. For some reason he thought it was icy and he yelled at me for walking on the wet green. It doesn't take a genius to see its just wet, not icy. Maybe he was new and hasn't figured that out yet? And its not like he said not to use it when I paid. He just waited for me to walk on it then yelled at me for it. Greens were very bad. Ball would bounce all the way to the cup. Not much grass around the greens. It rained the night before so there was a lot of mud. Wouldn't be so bad if they had grass around the greens. Just a lot of bare areas. The first cart they gave me died so I had to get another one. They wouldn't let us hit balls on the range so we couldn't warm up. No warming up on the greens. No warming up at the range. Overall a bad experience. I haven't been there in several years. Now I remember why I stopped going there. It coulda been tolerable if the staff wasn't so sour. read more

This was a first. So I have played here several times and never had an experience like this. Walked in with another person who was delivering items. Ron, who was at the counter helped him which was fine. He went outside with the guy and showed him where he had to deliver items. Not a problem. Then he comes back inside and says how you doin and answers a phone. When I said you aren't going to help me you going to answer the call first he got and attitude. In order for me to not destroy him I just left because anyone with a brain knows you tell the person on the phone I will be right back with you then help the person who already waited for you to help a delivery driver.
