A pleasant family orientated beach with pleasant clean water..We spotted dolphins and manatees whilst there

This is a great beach to take that morning walk before the Florida sunshine and humidity climbs, the parking lot was just beginning fill up when we arrived and the only lines we encountered were in front of the "pay to park" meters. The parking lot provides easy access to the beach so if you're one that likes to pack your entire household before heading off to the beach you won't have a very difficult hike here. The shoreline is lined with condos and vacation rentals and the entrepreneurs have filled this beach with rental cabanas and umbrellas chairs, you can count on having plenty of neighbors tucked in close if you choose to camp out here for the day. I came here to take a walk in my shorts and flip-flops since I had no plans to go in the water and thinking I could maybe score a few shells since my arrival preceded most beach goers. Walking along the waters edge provides a stable platform to walk, run or jog but it's definitely not a shelling beach unless you have a micro-shell collection, the shells are tiny and not worth the effort to bend over to retrieve one in my opinion. If I were to list things of interest, well it's a short list as it should be. There are beach erosion mitigation measures scattered across the beach every few hundred yards to interrupt the wave action, these concrete structures are strategically placed and protrude a few yards out into the water I guess a secondary benefit could be they could provide some disruption to minor rip currents but I definitely wouldn't depend on this being a total solution for either of the two. The water clarity was okay, the sand quality varies and there are lines of seaweed at the water's edge, even at this early hour. I didn't see any tracks from beach rakes so I don't know if the city or county performs this type of maintenance although I did see the park rangers emptying the trash containers in the parking lot and beach entrance. I wouldn't consider this a destination for me but if I were local I am sure this would be one beach I'd visit often...

This white sand beach was almost empty even during Labor Day weekend. It is the perfect for those who want a relaxing quiet beach away from all the crowds. In the early evening, we basically had the beach to ourselves. And if you think that such a quiet beach is away from everything, you would be incorrect. John's Pass Village with over 100 stores and restaurants is located nearby. It may not have the big party scene of a place like Clearwater, but it offers plenty of activities for the quieter visitors.

Madeira Beach is a small seaside community sandwiched between the Intracoastal Waterway and St. Petersburg to the east, and the Gulf of Mexico to the west. Madeira Beach is North of St Pete Beach and Treasure Island Beach and South of Redington Beach & Indian Rocks beach. Measuring only two miles long and with only about 5,000 residents, this small community draws beach lovers to its pristine white sandy beaches. Despite its small size, this vacation paradise has much to offer. The warm and calm waters of the Gulf of Mexico make this a wonderful family vacation spot, and there are many nearby attractions to keep you busy when you are done at the beach. Located at the southern end of Madeira Beach right on the waterfront is the John's Pass Village and Boardwalk. Legend has it that a pirate named John LeVique was the first European to settle the Madeira Beach area, and John's Pass bears his name today. The Village and the 1,100-foot boardwalk is the area's top attraction with over one hundred merchants offering unique retail shopping, restaurants, boat rentals, para-sailing, dolphin tours, and much more. If you're looking to do some deep-sea fishing or just take a boat tour of the area head over to see the folks at Hubbard's Marina who will be glad to assist you. The local fishing fleet is also situated here, and it can be fun to just sit back and watch the fishing boats come and go. A short walk from John's Pass takes you right back to the beach, and if you're lucky you may catch a pod of dolphins playing in the surf. For a tasty break grab an ice cream at Kilwin's Ice Cream & Fudge shop or if you need something more substantial grab a bite to eat at Scully's Seafood Restaurant or any of the numerous other restaurants in the area. John's Pass is a great spot to spend a few hours after beaching it all day, and if you're looking to do some shopping there are ample retailers available offering a wide variety of products. There's a lot of great restaurants and bars at Johns Pass across from the beach but up til now there were no waterfront restaurants or bars. Just a month ago, Madeira beach finally got a beachfront Restaurant and bar called Caddys! The Caddys of Madeira beach doesn't have any live music and doesn't quite have the same laid back vibe as Caddys of Treasure Island but it's a good start! Unfortunately, all the parking was full at Caddys on a Saturday and the parking lot was full by the public beach access too so we had to park 3 blocks away. Our typical secret parking spot in a residential area across from the beach was now marked as parking for residents only so we had to park even further away. Parking is not an easy task at Madeira beach, but there's definitely a lot to do and see! If you're in the area, definitely check out John's Pass and Caddys at Madeira Beach!

What a beautiful quiet white sand beach. We actually have never been to this particular beach before today. We started the day out at Indian Rocks Beach. Unfortunately, with the Florida summer weather, it started raining. We thought the sky looked better south and decided to stop at this particular beach. I love how all the beaches are all a little different. There seemed to be plenty of parking when we arrived. I'm not sure how it usually is because we've never been here before. There are two metered parking lots with a snack shack in the middle of them. The parking lot we parked In was literally steps away from the sand! It's really convenient if you can't walk far. There are restrooms available but no lifeguards on this beach. As I mentioned above there is a snack shack with a deck with umbrellas and chairs. When we were there on this Wednesday there was live entertainment all day. The entertainment was on this deck overlooking the beach. The music could be heard from the beach. This beach also has lounge chairs and umbrellas for rent. There seemed to be a very mixed crowd of people on this beach with a wide age range. It also seemed like a lot of people arrive later in the day. There was two volleyball nets on this beach that remained empty all day. As it approached the early evening I noticed a lot of adult aged people arriving to play volleyball. Perhaps some arrive later to play volleyball while others to watch the sunset. The beach was spotless, the sand is the beautiful white sand the gulf coast is known for and the water was warm and clean. The only negative things that I would say is the beach didn't seem very wide. I think it needs sand replenishing. I could see it being extremely crowded on the weekend. Also, I noticed the remains of cement structures that go out into the water and are about 100 feet apart as you walk down the beach.

Very beautiful beach, overlooks the gulf during sunset. Soft sand, perfectly clear water and nice area.

This is the beach! I was here on a Sunday and hardly anyone was here. The ground has small shells and white sand. You can comfortably walk barefoot without feeling in pain. Tons of space to social distance.

I am thinking back to the very first time I stepped foot on Madeira Beach and it was 30+ years ago! Whoa~ that's insane to think of. I briefly lived in St Petersburg when I was a teenager. All of the beaches along the coast were play day destinations. One of my dearest friends lives just minutes from this beach now and we were visiting her when we went to the beach for dinner and sunset. The unfortunate- over the last few years free parking has completely disappeared. Every parking space has a pay station- even restaurants lots. We opted to park at one of the beach access lots and walked to the restaurant. I was happy to see a bathroom house right off the north end of the lot- but it was locked. Boo. After dinner we walked over to the beach and stretched out our blanket and enjoyed the light sea breeze and the smattering of conversations from people along the beach that would breeze by us. We watched as the day beach goers slowly packed up and left and the sunset gazers came and settled in. Pictures, laughter, sand and a gentle sound of light surf lapping at the beach was a slice of heaven. Being there with my daughter and one of my best friends was bliss. If you set up higher on the beach, be mindful of fire ants. There were rental lounge chairs for day use and the beach does not have life guards. Right now is shark season and soon sting rays will be out there too- just be mindful. But enjoy every bit of beach time you can grab at Madeira.

I wish ill will on your parking enforcement. I saw no ticket on my car and I get a bill in the mail for $90! Outrageous.

This beach is pretty quiet most of the time. The beach is a decent size but you don't run out of breath reaching the shoreline. It has 2 parking locations. 1 is right next to the access point and 1 is located across the street. Both lots use park mobile! There's usually plenty of parking until around noon on the weekends. There is a large cross walk with flashing pedestrian lights. It's a less crowded beach option than Johns Pass and Redddington. That being said you can still easily walk to their facilities should you find yourself in need. This is a darn good, and super convenient beach!

great beach with beautiful water. water was warmer here than it was in bradenton. after hurricane storm surge, there was still cleaning up to do, but still beautiful. saw plenty of dolphins and manatees in the area!! short walk to all the shops along the strip, however more pricey than other shops on the beach.

We had so much fun and met some really nice people there! We had a girls day on the beach and then dinner. Only planned on staying for a few hours but then ended up staying all day long well into the evening! We rented an umbrella and lounge chairs and the gentleman coming by to get the payment for it was super nice! He took cash only and we only had cards but instead of kicking us out he let us go get cash :-) we will definitely be going back

Great beach, very clean, not that crowded, beach has a volleyball net and restrooms. Perfect view for a sunset, and then places within walking distance to eat and drink

Ask the Community - Madeira Beach

Are the restrooms open & available, or do they lock them up?

They are open and available but locked when the parks close at sunset. We have 3 parks to choose from on the beach.

    How much is Parking?

It varies all around the town. Madeira Beach owned lots start at $3.00/ hour as of today. Private lots are a lot more and vary daily but are for the whole day. Each lot will have a sign showing ownership when you pull in. All parking is done through… Read more

    Are pets allowed?

There will be designated areas with the signs if pets are allowed, but the pets are allowed to be walked on a leash anywhere outside the public beach areas.

    Where can you park?

There will be signs each main corner for "PARKING" on either side of the street and some can be done by the app.

    Do they allow bottled beer?

No. Of course not. It's a beach. No glass allowed.

    Is there any overnight parking?

    Yes, 24/7 are plenty.

Paying for parking immediately. Set the tone, especially since there's nothing particularly special about this beach. On top of that, I didn't realize until after I paid for parking that it's not dog friendly, which feels ridiculous for such a wide open public space. Sand, I did venture out for a while and the sound was ultra fine which super annoying. The views are okay and it wasn't crowded which is nice but now I know why. Most of the people I saw were much older and were fully dressed walking on the pathway and not really utilizing the beach. There are so many beaches in Florida. I'm not sure why anyone comes here. Nothing stood out or made us want to stay or really justified all the inconveniences. This beach is just meh and if you're close by ok but definitely not worth going out of your way for.

Nature won't let you down. But the actual island is slowly going down hill. The famous white sand beach is still there, but is suffering a little from erosion and now has areas of scrub as well. Recently extra sand was imported in, but 2 back to back hurricanes have spread that new sand everywhere but on the beach. Beware of the parking situation. It's funny that you can park in downtown St Petersburg or at Tampa Airport for less money than on Treasure Island. Unless you are staying at a motel or hotel on the beach that gives you a parking space along with your room expect to pay at least $6 an hour for parking on the beach. Stick to city owned parking lots. The privately owned lots are true tourist traps. At Pirate Square strip mall I paid online and still received a $63 parking ticket! There is no way to contact the company to complain and if you pay within a few days they reduce it to $43 to encourage people to not fight the ticket. Fortunately this lot has been torn down but the damage has been done and other private lots are following suit. Every year the Sand Sculpture competition in November and the Kite Festival in January bring back the festival crowds I remember from decades ago. In between times there is just an overpriced resort town as high end luxury hotels and corporate owned tourist trap store chains slowly replace the quaint little motels and local owned shops that gave the area its unique flavor. You can still find some of the Treasure Island spirit but you have to look hard.
