Went here for the first time for Good Friday. There was a bit of a crowd but nothing like the other more popular beaches. This beach is beautiful! Clear water and what I loved is there was no seaweed to walk thru when entering the water. The sand is a bit shelly so keep that in mind when putting up your umbrella. There are public restrooms and a shack that offers drinks and food. There is chair and umbrella rentals available. I believe I recall it being $40 for 2 chairs and an umbrella with $10 for each extra chair. Not too shabby! Parking is in a sort of street / lot parking. There are also several side roads that offer street parking and you pay via the app or website. read more

We come here often for my daughters beach volleyball tournaments and we love it. Come early for parking but the beach is clean, family friendly, and the sand and water is beautiful. When we come there are always volleyball courts and my daughter loves how soft the sand is. There's a cafe for those that are hungry and the bathrooms are clean. overall it's a great beach. read more

When visiting St.Pete, I always make a stop at Upham Beach. There is plenty of public parking, but make sure to arrive early on holiday weekends to ensure you get a spot. There is a snack bar with hot food, ice cream, alcohol, and more if you didn't pack a lunch. At the snack bar area there is a beach shower to rinse off at as well as men's and women's restrooms. As you walk down to the sand, there is a shared bin of kid's toys you can borrow from and public paddle board rentals! The sand is replenished by the city every few years, creating a long wide beach with room for volleyball courts, sun bathing, and any other activity you bring along! read more

5 stars for a great beach with plenty of different areas to walk around! The only downside is if you come later in the morning it can be hard to find parking. We had to park a little farther and walk over. The entry to the beach has a great little boardwalk with a side shower too. There's plenty of different areas to sit on the beach and the water is so clear with almost no seaweed. Lots of rock barriers to break the large waves. There's also a secret garden if you walk to the North end of the beach. read more

If you're ever in the area this is an okay beach to go to. It wasn't mind blowing and it wasn't terrible. It had a nice wash station, nice waves if you like waves, and it's got a place to eat at so you don't have to go far for food!! Beautiful beach with white sand and calm waters. It didn't seem to be as busy as the more touristy beaches but they were having a large Rockstar volleyball tournament on this day so it was a little busier than usual but great to watch. The parking is paid but readily available. They also have a beach restaurant Paradise grille right at the parking area so if you get hungry you don't have to go far. read more

This is a nice beach that is perfect for families. It's small and not overly crowded. We visited family in Brooksville and drove all the way to St. Petersburg to visit. This area has a lot of hotels and restaurants near the main strip. There is a Paradise Grille located on the beach. The downside here is the amount of seashells. It can be uncomfortable going into the water and sand. This beach is full of shells. If you're making a project or your kids are collecting this is it. Otherwise very peaceful and perfect for young children. read more

Better than Downturkey on many levels, such as that it does not tend to put you to sleep. This beach town has a perfect beach in the southern part of St Petersburg, and is one of my favourite places on the Gulf to spend some time wandering around on the sands at sunset. It's absolutely beautiful in every way. It's easily as gorgeous as Treasure Island Beach a couple of miles north, and more peaceful than the main part of Saint Petersburg to the South. read more

Nice smaller beach on St Pete. I enjoyed it even though the area I was in was more shells than sand! Short walk from the car if you get a good parking spot early - I arrived at 10:30 or so on a Thursday and there was plenty, but by the time I left at noon all spaces were full. $5 for a little over an hour. Clearly I didn't explore everything the park offers, based on the rest of the reviews, but it was close to restaurants and the rest of St Pete Beach! read more

We just happened to come upon this beach driving around for beach parking and were pleasantly surprised!! Of the beaches we've visited so far, this was the least crowded with the nicest white sandy beach and plenty of space to socially distance. There was also an abundance of spacious parking. Apparently it's on the pricier side at $3.45/hr but I was expecting to pay so I didn't mind it too much. We pitched a tiny beach tent by the water and grabbed lunch at the beach shack "Paradise Grill" around noon. We ordered the: - Blackened Grouper platter, comes with tartar sauce, coleslaw, and fries. I got an additional side of buns to eat half of it like sandwich. It tasted fresh and delicious and was pretty filling! $20 - Buffalo Butterfly Shrimp, also tasted fresh and was breaded perfectly buffalo sauce on top. We asked for an order of ranch to accompany this. Best decision ever! - Grilled Chicken Salad. My partner ordered this and he really liked it. He was pretty full after eating this that he barely could help finish the shrimp and grouper. Don't forget to grab yourself a fork! There was only one guy taking orders, hopping on the grill AND bar tending, but he was quick. We found a spot and set up shop by the water and came back to see our order ready to be picked in less than 10 mins! The water here is clearer than most I've seen around here and an overall wonderful experience. This is the second visit to this beach on this trip alone and we will certainly be back :) read more

This is a beautiful beach that's usually not as crowded as the St Pete beaches. The sand is soft and pillowy. There is a huge volleyball court. The one downside is not much parking except for the one parking lot and no dogs allowed. But the rocks by the beach is beautiful and you are able to see a great sunset. read more

This is definitely one of my favorite beaches in St. Pete. The water is clean and clear. I recommend visiting during warmer weather, because the water can be very cold during the winter months. It's a clean and pretty quiet beach, it's never really too crowded. I can stay at this beach all day long. There are some great restaurants and bars within walking distance of this beach as well. The only concern that I have with this beach is the very limited parking. There are not many spots at all, and the search to find a paid parking lot nearby can be stressful. I've always been lucky when trying to find parking, but we sometimes spend around 30 minutes looking for a spot. So be aware of this. Best times to visit would be during the week. On the weekends and holidays it may be near impossible to find a parking spot. read more

The beach itself is definitely a party beach. People drinking beers in the water, throwing up footballs and just enjoying a good time. However it is not overly wild like you would see in Miami and is still kid friendly. The sand itself does have plenty of shells like other reviewers have stated but it wasn't much of an issue. In general, my Pinellas County beaches are pristine & beautiful, and all are amazing! As a native, though, personal preferences lead me to favor some beaches over others. Clearwater Beach is just too crowded. And I dislike Madeira & Treasure Island only because the beach is so deep... I'm exhausted by the time I get to the water. But, I love Sunset Beach - hey, Caddy's! I've been a fan of IRB & Redington for decades, because the walk is minimal... not much sand. When I was younger, I loved the vintage vibe of St Pete Beach, but so much development over the years has discouraged me frequenting their beaches. So I was delighted to visit Upham Beach recently to discover the walk was reasonable, AND the beach wasn't crowded! Plenty of public parking is available at a fair rate, also. This beach is a hazard to human health and safety - it needs to be closed immediately. In addition to the broken glass and used needles mixed into sand, your kids will find plenty of used rubbers while playing here. Unclear why local government has not taken action. read more

Upham Beach Park is the best place to park on St Pete beach! There's always plenty of spots. We usually Park here and walk 5minutes South to hit up the postcard Inn, toasted monkey and Jimmy bs beach bars! This top secret beach parking spot is right behind the Twistee Treat Located off Gulf Blvd at 68th Avenue! Upham Beach provides a reprieve from the almost constant presence of tall hotels and condominiums that line the shore of St. Pete Beach. Parking: Metered parking, $1.25 per hour or $5.00 per day. Enforced from 8am to 8pm every day. So, if you come after 8pm, parking is FREE. Hours: Beach doesn't close. Beach Facilities: Restrooms, outdoor shower to rinse off, food concession. Lifeguards: Unfortunately, there are no lifeguards. Food concession: Yes, the Seaside Grille is located right on the beach and has outdoor seating in the form of concrete tables and benches. Serves breakfast and lunch, 8am to 4pm. Trolley Stop: Not right at Upham, but you would only have to walk a few blocks from Gulf Blvd. Surfing hot-spot: previously yes. But recent erosion control measures have compromised the quality of the break! Upham has 4 wooden dune walkovers that lead from the long, narrow, pay and park lot, across the dunes to a very wide, white sandy beach. A short walk north takes you to Blind Pass, which has a rock jetty. This is a great place to watch the sunset. Dolphins often make an appearance and sometimes even make a jump out of the water. Because Upham has such a severe erosion problem due to its orientation to the prevailing water currents, it was decided that drastic measures were in order. So 'GeoTubes" were installed during the last renourishment project. Geotubes are huge fabric tubes filled with sand, placed strategically to interrupt the natural flow of water currents and waves along the beach. The 5 geotextile T-groins have prevented sand erosion in the past but are now worn out. Because of that, sand has washed out of the area. They will be replaced by the four rock jetties - a project that is expected to take 12 to 15 months. Funding is coming from the state and county. read more

This is a beach with exceptional strengths but also significant weaknesses. This makes it difficult to rate. If the strengths coincide with what a person wants in a beach that person could easily give it 5 stars. Yet others might give it only two stars. Located. at the north end of St Pete Beach its existence is not evident when driving Gulf Boulevard which is several blocks from the coast in this area. The only indication it exists are several small signs at about 70th Avenue indicating beach access to the west. One of the strengths is there is plenty of parking, more than any other single beach access point between Pass A Grill and Sand Key Park. It also has a beach front hot food facility which is rare. Unlike the area to the south, the sand is hard packed making walking to the shore easy. However the sand contains some shell debris. Several volleyball courts are available for use. I believe there were beach umbrellas available for rental in the past but I haven't seen them my last few visits. I recently have visited on weekdays so perhaps it's only a weekend thing now. I don't know. Weaknesses include there being only one full body height beach shower. Showers at the north end south entrances are only leg height. T Groins have been installed to reduce erosion. However when erosion exposes them they're ugly beyond belief. Presently they are not exposed. This is not a party beach. The several blocks between Gulf Boulevard and the beach are packed with older one and two story mom and pop motels. Their customers are mostly older people and an occasional family with single digit age children. There are lots of drive-in attendees due to the ample parking. The drive-ins are a typical beach mix. Overall this is a decent beach that most people will find acceptable. For some people is strengths will make it their favorite beach. read more

The beach here is a little bit more shelly than the surrounding beaches. Upham has a lot to offer people looking for a convenient short stop. The sunset is much nicer at Pass-a-Grille, but if you're short on time and don't want to drive 10 min more, this beach is just fine. I did see a guy with a g-string on once. That was kinda scary.
