Nice little area with a beach. The only downside for me is, while we were there, there was a very loud kid's party. It was impossible to get away from because the area is tiny. I am glad for the kids having fun, but the noise made it impossible for me to enjoy the area more fully. Such is life. There is a bathroom right there too. Always a plus! read more

This has become a fave place for us to see sunsets. We love to look for areas that are pretty chill, not so touristy, and easy to park kinda sunset view places. We found a perfect place on Sunset Beach where we can park and see the sunset from the car. It is a condo with a parking lot and the beach is about five steps away. So easy to see the sunset especially when the weather extremes are around like when it's too cold in the winter. This spot is definitely our newest happy go to place. Yup! This is the beach for me! I think I've found my go-to beach for now. My sister came to town to visit and we didn't really have a plan but I just wanted her to relax and feel like she was on vacation even though she was visiting me. Sunset Beach was a perfect place to relax and have the feel of being on a remote island but not really being on a remote island. I kind of just moved to this area and am still trying to get a feel for the best beaches. I'm not sure if this beach was perfect because it's the offseason or what but there weren't that many people on the beach and there was plenty of space to lay out and picnic without feeling crowded. There are several parking lots to park in along the way, so just pick the one that is less crowded and head out. I love that the parking lot was literally just a few feet from the beach so you don't have to haul your stuff a long distance from the lot not that we had a lot of stuff. It was only about $7 to pay to park for 3 hours which was great. Once we got to the beach, the sand was perfect and didn't really stick to your skin that much so that you don't have a lot of sand in places that you wished you hadn't gotten it. It also made for easy clean up as it didn't stick to our beach mat and a quick shake of the mat did the trick to get off all the sand. Water....amazing! It was cool at first but feels a bit warmer once you get in. I kind of wish I brought a snorkel to see if there were any fish. It also seems quite shallow because I noticed several people at least 100+ feet off the beach in the water and the water was only up to mid-thigh level. So that might be great if you can't swim really well. The signs say to watch our for stingrays during certain seasons as well as sea turtle egg-laying spots, but there weren't any problems with either. I suggest bringing a beach umbrella for a little shade as there weren't many overhanging trees to provide much shade or those spots were taken quite quickly. Then...the sunset! I was astounded because many of the areas from where I moved from have people's houses blocking access to the beach and it's hard to catch a genuinely awesome view of the sun setting. Not at sunset beach though. The name of the area rings true to the name. It truly is a sunset beach and probably one of the best...so far. I'm thankful that this beach is so clean and that I can just go right out to the beach with no problems, find a decent spot to lay out, and relax until the sun sets. Just beautiful! read more

A beach is a beach for this northern transplant into Florida. I love the beach so no complaints at all about this one!! I wish I lived closer. The pavilion is spacious and shaded. Lots of tables to eat at. The playground at the pavilion is great. Beach is amazing!! Parking is not horrible and is located right on the beach with plenty if spaces. We love staying for hours and hours. Make sure you put in st. Pete sunset beach...or you might almost end up at the Tarpon Springs Sunset beach! read more

Very wide, white silky sand beach. Lots of surfers were out there on this day, it was quite a windy day, but even though it was 60 something, we got perfectly hot on the beach. There was a wedding to our left, there were retired people, people with toddlers, couples, but not too busy at all on a Sunday afternoon. There was parking 50 feet away for less than four dollars. My family and I call Sunset the party beach. It's arguably one of the prettiest "middle beaches" in my humble opinion. (And it's got some of the coolest houses.) Most importantly it is THE beach of water board activities. It's kind of the only beach where you can maybe catch a wave when conditions are right. There are many parking lots reserved for beach parking. And this is one of those times where I'd say USE THEM. The homeowners are grumpy about people street parking (as they should be, they spend a lot of money to live there and streets are itty bitty narrow little things) and they will have you towed. The pavilions are really well taken care of. Restrooms, showers, picnic tables. All of it. AND you can reserve them! The largest one is about $600 bucks for a private rental. This seems steep but many people do this for weddings. There is also a playground attached. The reason it's the party beach is because well people party out there. You got Caddy's and Katiki and the fun spills on over down the beach both directions. Caddy's has cabana rentals to make the beach partying even more easy. Because of the bars the beaches do attract a younger crowd for the most part. You'll see less families. read more

White sand, birds, and tranquility - this is our favorite Gulf Coast beach. The island community of Sunset Beach has grown more and more popular over the past twenty years with many of the smaller private homes being torn down to make room for multi-story units but Sunset Beach remains a quiet, peaceful tranquil place to get-away, rest and relax on the beach. There are two access areas with public parking (average cost $2.00 per hour, metered spots) and finding a space is usually not an issue. At the South end of the island, the municipal beach area has a building with outdoor showers to get the sand off you as well as clean bathrooms. They also have vending machines and a picnic area. On our last visit in May there was a bachelorette party with music on Sunday evening. As you can see in our pictures the sunsets are amazing every day from anywhere on the beach. We love to watch the sunset and walk at the waters edge just far enough to get your feet and lower legs wet in the surf. read more

This is the beach at the southern part of Treasure Island south of the intersection of Gulf Boulevard and Blind Pass. Major access points for non-residents are at Caddy's at the north end and two County parking lots at the south end. In between the beach front has houses and access is inconvenient for non-residents due to parking restrictions. Despite recent renourishment the beach is relatively narrow. Don't expect anywhere near the width of the exceptionally wide central part of Treasure Island. Beachgoers in the central portion are mostly residents who walk to the beach or tourists from the one large motel on the beach or those staying at motels on the east side of the street. The north end near Caddy's is a happy mix of residents, tourists staying nearby, and drive-in locals. There are oldsters under the Caddy's umbrellas getting a bit of cooling effect from the condensation of their drinks dripping on their bellies, and kids up to about age 10 digging in the sand while their parents watch or help. Usually there are young adults around playing the game involving two balls attached to a string. The truly spectacular examples of human physical appearance tend to toss footballs. The south end by the county parking lots is a bit less populated. The mix is a bit different, still plenty of kids, but fewer oldsters. The area by the southernmost parking lot is popular with gay and lesbian people. The southern area also has a pavilion with restrooms and soft drink machines which are much cheaper than a drink at Caddy's. Note there are no facilities open to the general public between Caddy's and the south parking areas. Overall a nice pleasant beach almost everyone will enjoy. read more

This is a great little beach off the beaten path. Looking to escape the crowds of Clearwater or St. Pete Beach? Sunset Beach is a great alternative. The name speaks for itself: Going here at sunset is a must! You would think any beach on the Gulf would have a great view of the sunset, but here the views seem particularly stunning. Granted I am a bit bias since this is where I proposed to my girlfriend, I simply could not take my eyes off the incredible views. I could see how Sunset Beach could appear overcrowded as space and parking is a bit limited..You definitely would get more of both at nearby Howard Park. Nevertheless, it's a great alternative to the big beaches, especially around Spring Break time...With far less traffic too! read more

Sunset beach is not only beautiful and relaxing, but literally has such an amazing sunset to watch, hence the name! We laid out here for a couple of hours and it was so peaceful. This is considered to be a private beach, which is great because we didn't have to deal with too many people around us. The beach is kept very clean, and the sand is white and soft. Unfortunately it the water was too cold to go swimming, but sun bathing felt great nonetheless. I look forward to returning here in the future. read more

I like all of the St. Pete beaches. Each spot has it's own personality. Sunset beach is sprinkled with a heavy dose of fabulous and draped in speedos. Great Neighborhood, nice beach! On certain areas of the beach, you can have a cocktail or a beer, and walk with it. I live near Sunset Beach, and I can tell you that there is a community effort to ban drinking straws on the beach. The straws are the only garbage that gets through the beach raking machines....and sometimes they create serious injury to our sea life.... Enjoy in moderation, and leave the straw at the bar or restaurant. :) read more

This is not the nicest beach on Treasure Island but still a descent option. Parking is $1.25 per hour. There are some very nice houses nearby if you are into looking at things that you can not afford like I am. It is a good place to get away from the crowds that come with Caddy's farther North. Overall, we had a good experience on an overcast day. read more

We decided to do some exploring and traveled a little farther south than usual and found a quiet public beach access on the south part of Treasure Island. When you venture past the craziness of Caddy's you stumble upon a quiet beach area that is a little more relaxing and secluded. It was perfect for just relaxing and reading a book. it was a little windy so there were surfers and paddle boarders that were fun to watch. There was a nice parking lot that charged about $1.50 an hour, the only downside is that there are no public places too close (very residential) and there are no restrooms at the parking lot/public access area. So if the water is too chilly to get into, you'll have to walk a ways to find a public restroom. read more

The beach here is beautiful and sunsets are wonderful (as they are everywhere along the gulf coast, but the beach is much bigger/wider further north on Treasure Island, and further south on St.Pete Beach. There is a short- maybe 1/2 mile- boardwalk around the beach area. Parking meters and a few street spots on side streets. Surrounded by private condos and house rentals, so less busy than further up or down the beaches. Overall a nice spot to check out! read more

I recently had my wedding on this beach at the sunset beach pavilion and it was amazing! You can rent the pavilion for a super low price, get parking with parking passes, and use a long stretch of beach. The beach also wasn't at all crowded! read more

We are at a crab restaurant on the beach. The sunset was incredible. We put our names won the list on the chalkboard and decided that the table was too big for just us and we offered to share the table with a group from out of town. Located at the end of Treasure Island where the hotels end and the houses begin. This hidden beach has a beautiful reservable picnic pavilion which serves as a great place for family get together. I hosted my family reunion here and it was a huge success. It is a small rocky beach and not the best place for swimming but there is a small playground for the kids and its a great place to collect shells. There is plenty of metered parking. read more
