The fries were made fresh to order so were still hot and crisp when I got home. It's up to you to season them. I like Venezuelan hot dogs, and this one had an interesting preparation. I got the deluxe dog with chicken. The bottom layer is the bun and hot dog, then they add ketchup, mustard and mayo, then a pile of potato stix. The chicken is a cheese and chicken mix, warmed up on the grill and placed on top of the whole thing. It's definitely a dish to eat with a knife and fork. Pretty tasty. I do wish Venezuelans were not so fond of boiling the hot dogs, but that's just me. The tres leches cake was labeled as handmade, and did taste that way--had a nice whipped cream and cinnamon topping. Do be careful with it, mine tipped on its side and the milk leaked out. Service is friendly but it definitely helps to know Spanish. I do not, but we got by with pointing at the menu. Overall it's a decent entry in the Venezuelan food truck category.

Wow. I recently…read moretried the chilaquiles (red and green) from La Garnacheria food truck and was very, very happy that I did. They were easily the best chilaquiles that I have ever had. The verde was my favorite and it had a kick, but it was sooooo good. Today I ordered the flautas and the barbacoa tacos. Both were amazing and showed how elevated home-style Mexican food is among the best in the world. The owner is extremely sweet and passionate about her food. You can tell that each dish and salsa is a labor of love. I enjoy my conversations with her and learning about her culinary history. I highly recommend La Garnacheria. But be warned, it can be as spicy as it is amazing.

I stopped by this fairly new food truck in La Plaza de los Food Trucks. I got a couple Tacos de…read moreCanasta with chicharrones, the Tostadas de Tinga de Pollo, and the Esquite with bone marrow. All of the food is intensely and marvelously flavorful. The Tacos de Canasta are filled corn tortillas steamed over hot oil for one hour, then warmed up when you order. The chicharrone filling was the best I have ever had, hands down. Wonderful umami flavor and creamy pork fat. I was warned that they would probably fall apart and they did, but I didn't mind at all. The tostadas were the traditional corn shell topped with a layer of refried beans, shredded chicken in a tomato and chipotle sauce, lettuce and cheese. They held up well on the drive home (I ordered to go). They are carefully constructed so that you can pick them up and they eat pretty neatly for a tostada. All the different flavors come through. The Esquite is a corn dish, equivalent to what other Tex-Mex trucks call elote. At $12 for 12 ounces it is kind of pricey. But oh my, the flavor! (I know I'm saying flavor a lot. Flavor flavor flavor flavor). The bone marrow broth gives it an incredible richness. I actually finished that 12 ounce cup, which has not happened before. This has spoiled me for elote now. The dishes came with two salsa cups. They are more spreads than liquid. There's a red one that has a pleasant kick and more delicious flavor. And a darker one that is flaming hot, but you can still get the flavor of the chile. The salsas are an achievement on their own, and complement the food wonderfully. I wanted to try the Arroz con Leche, but she was still preparing that when I came and I chose not to wait. Based on the other dishes I think it would be great. The owner was working the truck on her own and describes her food as home cooking. The prices are comparable to other trucks for a serving, but each item is really only enough for one (you will want three tacos if you're making a meal of them). The tostadas are a pair so you could share if you have a small appetite. I would definitely look forward to trying the rest of her menu. Can't really find anything to fault.

Noticing Cuban eats with this truck, I decided on the Cuban oxtails special with the plaintain chips and rice/peas (beans) made. The oxtails were tender greasy and came of the bone very easily. Rice and peas had good flavor and the plaintain chips had nice texture with a touch of sweetness. It's pricy at just under $30; but that's due to oxtail prices increasing over the years. Of course I prefer to pay less but who wouldn't? Other menu items include cuban frijoles, salads, pastas, pastries, pizzas, and rice dishes. Not sure of the schedule for this truck as there's been times at this park where I didn't see them open. Good thing I caught them on the last Sunday in February. Definitely will try the other items when I'm back here. Gosling food truck park comes through again!

I had been meaning to try this food truck for some time and finally caught them open. I got a…read moredinner platter with shredded beef, beans and rice, some plantains, and a side salad. The shredded beef dish is absolutely the best Cuban food I have ever had. The beef was moist and tender, and beautifully seasoned. Just the right amount of fat for good mouth feel. The rice and beans soaked up this flavor and made the dish complete. I would eat this again anytime. The plantains were well cooked and a nice semi-sweet complement to the meal. The salad was lightly dressed and was also a good complement. The truck is one of the less flashy ones in the Plaza De Los Food Trucks, so you have to know the food and want it. I found their menu a little confusing--it lists all the components of a plate separately, and it's not clear how you would build a combo. Our server that evening did not speak English and our Spanish is not that good, but she got her husband on the phone and everything went well. They are very polite people. The menu lists desserts but they didn't have any that evening. I would look forward to trying them another time. I definitely want to pay another visit, perhaps to try the pork platter or the paella (not listed on the menu).

The other day I stopped in for lunch and had the Pabellon Criollo, which I believe is their signature dish. I had the beef version--some "pulled" beef, fried plantains, white rice, and black beans. The highlight for me was the fried plantains--they had a nice crust on them that brought out the sweet flavor. But Pabellon has no sauce, and I found it kind of dry. For those of you who don't like sauce, and I know you're out there, this would be something to try. We've also had the burger and it's quite good--the mushroom burger had a generous helping of mushrooms and great flavor. So I'd definitely get a burger next time around, or branch out for the empanadas. I would have had a dessert, but they didn't offer them the day I was in the mood for that. The people are friendly and the place is attractive.

I had the special combo--a pork pastor volcan, a quesabirria and a beef fajita taco, with a jamaica agua fresca, a side of elote, and flan for dessert. The volcan is an innovative item--I have not seen it on a Tex-Mex menu before. It's a tostada piled high with your choice of protein, topped with a cheese cap that's cooked on the grill. Great idea, but on mine the cheese cap was either not cooked enough or too much--it fell into that grey zone where it was chewy rather than melty or crisp. Also not a lot of al pastor flavor. As for the quesabirria and the taco--I think this might be the truck for you if you really need to have a low spice level. The meats and fillings themselves had no chile, just salt and other umami spices. The salsas gave you a choice--a yellow salsa with a good strong kick, or an orange one with less heat and more of a salty flavor. Both tasted homemade and gave the items their flavor. I did not get the dipping consomme for my quesabirria, which was an oversight. I think it is sold separately. The elote is a unique preparation. Again no chile, just the white cheese and corn--but with cashews! I liked the nutty flavor with the corn. The flan was wedge shaped and the texture was more like cheesecake than traditional flan. I like caramel cheesecake, and it had good flavor. No syrup topping. I got my order to take away. They packed all the items, including the drink and the flan, in one bag. So the ice in the jamaica had fully melted by the time I got home. I think it would have been good. The truck is efficient--they arrived at 5:45 and opened at 6, right on time. My order was out in about 12 minutes, not bad from a cold start. There are some execution issues but I think they have promise.
