After comparing MANY contractors and stucco specialists, we decided to go with Madalex Plastering which I'm very pleased with the end result. Jose the owner was knowledgeable and patient when we ask him questions, and I asked A LOT OF QUESTIONS after we had a horrible experience with our bathroom remodeling with a general contractor who lies and forget about what he said and has horrible attitude that left us with PTSD for about 3 years. Jose communicate great and the contract is very clear on what we agreed on which made us feel a lot better knowing we are dealing with a professional. Some of the workers don't speak English that well, but there's this guy Jose who's not the one gave me quote (we'll call him Lieutenant Jose) but he's on-site most of the time throughout the job who's extremely courteous, professional and would address all the questions we have. The project took a little longer due to some foreseen and unforeseen issues, which accompanies with extra charges but I guess that's just part of the construction business. Anyway, after months of the mess with living on the construction site, we are happy with the result and I would recommend Madalex Plastering. The price is definitely better without going through a general contractor which is just going to sub work to specialists anyway(if you don't mind project managing yourself) They also have one-year warranty and Jose told us to call them in 6 month to do another walk through to check if everything's good, if not then they'll retouch/repair them. Jose called me back the same day and came out and gave me a fair quote to do the repair and do a smooth stucco finish in the area. They were on it for 5 straight days and it came out great, nice lines, no cracks, good clean up. Will use them again. Jose and his crew came to me through my contractor (the best contractor in the SCV, by the way). It was a big job... lots of repairs and a really big house, 30 years old, and still with the original stucco job. The first thing that impressed me about Jose was, as we were discussing options for the house, he explained there were two processes he would recommend. One was very expensive and one was less than half that cost. Then we took a look around the house and he said in his opinion, he recommends the less expensive option. He knew that our #1 goal was to make the house look great for the next 30 years, and we definitely could have been sold on that expensive option. But the guy has integrity... And sure enough, the house looks amazing. I had no idea this house could look so good. Obviously his crew is very talented at their jobs. But just as important, they were all very professional... attentive and polite.. always showing great respect for our property, always making sure even the smallest detail was attended to. I rarely write reviews unless I am absolutely impressed and satisfied with the work that has been done. If you are looking for a company that does stucco the right way, look no further! Madalex Plastering is excellent. I hate dealing with contractors mainly because as a female, they are always telling me what I should have done, as if I have no clue about what I am looking for. They don't listen to what I want done. That's where Jose was different. HE LISTENED! He was the 3rd person (out of 6 that I contacted) to come out and give me an estimate. He listened when I told him I wanted to re-stucco the house and garage, fix the walls and corners, and cover up various unwanted holes. The other 2 contractors were more interested in selling me something called "Cool Wall", telling me what color I should put on the house and garage and what color I should paint the woodwork (which was contrary to what I wanted) than listening to what I was requesting. The corners on my house were pretty much non-existent. A corner on the garage had been carved out by the previous owners to accommodate a large wooden post. The front of the garage had one side crumbling and some large cracks above the garage door. Jose told me what the process would be to fix everything I had concerns about. He also made some suggestions about some of the doorways on the house that just added a nice finishing touch to the entire project. He told me that he would give me a choice of 3 colors to choose from when they were ready to add the color coat. His crew were all very nice and respectful. They arrived on time everyday and when they were done for the day, cleaned everything up so nothing was in the way. Any questions and/or concerns I had were either addressed by Jose or his crew. I was initially leary about all the "5" star reviews, however, they are entirely justified. Save yourself some time and frustration. I can post pics of your two days job. Plaster patch two pilasters for a couple hours. Let dry. Come back next day to paint. In the beginning you even wanted me to do the paint job myself. I had to ASK you to do the whole job. You showed up in your Camry and asked me to write you a check before you did anything and I got no paperwork from you until I asked you for an invoice. All I'm saying is buyer beware. Future customers should be wary and definitely get a quote from a reputable company first. I feel like I paid $150 too much. You told me the extra gallon of paint you had to buy was $55.00 so you charged me $100 more for the job.
