Jacket and coat from the Friends and Family sale.
Christopher N.

While I'm not a frequent Macy's shopper, I have started to visit a couple times a year. Ross Park Mall has been my go to mall since the 90s. But as anyone who's shopped there over the decades can tell you it has changed as more upscale/expensive stores have moved in. I still enjoy seeing it decorated for the holidays, browsing, or picking up something from the dwindling food court options, and do most of my shopping at more affordable stores like Kohl's. However I must say the holiday sales at Macy's, either Black Friday or the Friends and Family sale, have caught my attention the last couple years. Last year I picked up some cologne from their sizable fragrance department. One lady claimed they didn't have any open bottles for sample sprays at her station and didn't seem willing to make another available to try, so I moved on. The second was be try friendly and took me all around to anything I was curious about, and I left with two different bottles. This year I was in the market for new winter wear, something waterproof and warm. I ended up with a Tommy Hilfiger jacket and a Calvin Klein coat. Both together would normally have been $375, too much for me. But one sale just $140 saving me $235! The store is spacious and usually better organized than other clothing outlets with things thrown everywhere after aggressive shoppers move through.

DO NOT SHOP HERE! THEY DO NOT CARE ABOUT THE CUSTOMERS. Macy's customer service is the worst. I have talked to 4 supervisors to try to help me with a return. The supervisors have lied to me, dismissed me, told me it was not their problem. Their supervisors are not trained and don't care about the customers.

This particular Nordstrom Rack is in The Block Northway shopping center. This Nordstrom Rack has two floors. The top level contains merchandise for men, children, and home, and the bottom level contains merchandise for women. I focused on the women's clothing. I saw an assortment of shirts, pants, shorts, dresses, coats, and other apparel that previous retailers could not sell. I recognized brands such as Calvin Klein and Nike, but I had not previously heard of some of the other brands. I thought that the prices were low to moderate. I decided to purchase a pair of UnionBay shorts for $23. The cashier quickly and correctly rang up my purchase.

At the same time, another employee positioned an iPhone near where we were standing, which made us feel uncomfortable and singled out. We are both African American, and the behavior of the employees felt prejudiced and unnecessary. We entered the store fully intending to purchase fragrances, but left feeling disappointed and unwilling to spend our hard-earned money in an environment where we felt judged rather than welcomed.

So I like to call it "Shopping With a Purpose"! First as a customer, the high-quality fashion for the price is unmatched. The wide selection of items and the way it is organized makes shopping there a delight. I always find what I am looking for and those extra items that I did not know I wanted. I have also experienced first-hand the remarkable services THF provides and the priceless imprint it leaves on the lives of the women it serves. I had the pleasure of meeting the Executive Director at a Girls Night Out shopping event sponsored by Treasure House Fashions. The event allows deserving women to shop and receive merchandise at no cost. If that is not enough, each woman is assigned a volunteer "Personal Shopper" to not only assist, but they provided outstanding compassion for the women during this vulnerable time in their lives. I was extremely impressed by Ms. Power's enthusiasm and passion for the women and her service as well as the graciousness of the volunteers. The individual attention and non-judgment shown to the women was unmatched in this arena. I love shopping at Treasure House Fashions because of the quality merchandise but more importantly, I am helping deserving women find her way.

It also is the "closet" for several dozen Pittsburgh-area agencies that help women in need such as women leaving domestic violence. Since its founding in 2001, it has donated millions of dollars of clothing to tens of thousands of women. I recently shopped at Treasure House Fashions. When I entered the store, a friendly volunteer greeted me, explained how the store was organized, and offered assistance. The racks and shelves were fully stocked--in fact, so stocked that the store was no longer accepting donations. The clothes were very well organized by size and type (e.g., pants, shirts, and dresses), and some were from well-known brands. I did not, however, see price tags on most clothes, so I would like to set more of those. Most styles were not my preferred style, but I did find a couple of clothes that I liked.

Ross Park Mall is a higher end shopping experience with many luxury brand stores but also a lot of trendy spots (like the Disney Store pop up). It also has a lot of family attractions like Build A Bear, Lego etc. And then the staple anchor stores. There are also many "ring" stores like Crate and Barrel, LL Bean and Cheesecake Factory. The food court has a lot of options you don't see in other places (like a potato restaurant with amazing french fries and a poke bowl place) but also has food court staples like pizza and chick fil a. There is a lot of parking, but depending on where you want to go in the mall, it can seem far to where your destination is. The lots are well lit and well kept, though. The mall itself has a lot of space for walking and the corridors are kept clean and well lit. Facilities run by the mall are also well maintained and stocked. Overall, there is a little bit of something for everyone and this is a great place to experience what a good mall actually is.

The anchor stores are Nordstrom, Macy's, JCPenney, and Dick's Sporting Goods. Luxury/designer stores include Burberry, Gucci, Louis Vuitton, Tiffany and Co., Kate Spade, and Tory Burch. The mall also has many lower-priced clothing stores, including American Eagle, Banana Republic, Buckle, Chico's, Express, GAP, H&M, Hollister, J.Crew, J.Jill, Levi's, LOFT, Madewell, PacSun, Victoria's Secret, White House Black Market, and Zumiez. Unfortunately, a few of my favorite clothing stores have closed since my previous review. Several other stores sell shoes and accessories, such as Coach, Foot Locker, Kay Jewelers, Lens Crafters, Pandora, Sunglass Hut, Swarovski, Tumi, VisionWorks, and Warby Parker. The mall also has electronics stores such as Apple and phone stores. Stores for home goods include Crate and Barrel, RH (formerly Restoration Hardware), Tempur-Pedic, and Williams-Sonoma. Current restaurants are Auntie Anne's, Cheesecake Factory, Plaza Azteca, Nordstrom Ruscello, several casual restaurants in the food court, etcetera. Unlike many other indoor malls, Ross Park Mall is not dead. Most store fronts are occupied, and only a few store fronts are empty and awaiting future retailers.
