Mac's is a general store, meat market and deli all rolled up in one. Mac's also has dine-in or outside seating giving it a leg up on their competition. Mac's makes the famous "Tyrone" sub. If you're not from Central PA you wouldn't understand! However, if you love onions (I mean really really love'em) then this is a real treat. I typically go italian - medium green (pictured). The sub has chip chop ham (not my favorite), bologna, lettuce, tomato, banana peps and loads of ONIONS! Mac's onions aren't marinated in the oil like the other place. Even though the meats aren't premium the onions and locally baked roll steal the show. Pair with another one of PA's finest, Middleswarth BBQ chips, and save the tic-tacs for later to combat the onion breath. And if you don't like onions -- this place isn't for you. It's a toss up on who's the best in Town. Both are similar but different and I can't make up my mind. I tend to like Mac's overall hoagie better than their neighbor but I like the onions more at the other place. read more

Stopped in and picked up a package of ground beef. The package looked absolutely beautiful until I broke open the ground beef. The middle was completely brown (old beef). This was packaged deliberately to deceive the buyer. You could tell because the brown meat was covered by a thin layer of nice new and beautiful pink burger. I was so p*ssed. I'll never go back. I had high hopes that I'd found a new and closer place to buy meat...NOPE! I'll never recommend them to anyone either. This place is a gem. The meat market/butcher shop products are great. I've had their thick sliced bacon, pork chops, sausages, steaks, and more and all of it has been outstanding. Went in for lunch while working from out of town. The stuffing bites seemed like a unique offering so I gave them a shot, and they were pretty great! Great flavor and dipping sauce plus they have an awesome crunch! Definitely a try. I also had the meatball sub which was pretty great too. I wish the meatballs had pork/beef mix instead of all beef, but that might be a personal preference. Super fast service and really nice peoe. Wpuld 100% return. read more

This is a great place. Butcher shop with quality meats and house made sausage at good prices. Stuffed chicken and pork chops are awesome. Small grocery section. I don't eat subs but they're highly recommended. Pizzas are good. They're doing a lot in a small place and Tyrone is lucky to have it. People are friendly. Stopped in for dinner and had good service and good food. Ordered a hoagie, a wedge, a pizza, and wings. All were A-OK, but nothing amazing or special to us out-of-towners, but not sure about the local scene and how they compare. Healthier options (throw some deli meat on some lettuce a call it a salad?) would have been nice. The "wedge" was interesting. It took us much of the meal to finally realize that it's basically a couple of pizza crusts glued together with melted cheese and some deli meat in between. The staff were friendly. This is my all time favorite place to eat when I'm hungry for wings or hoagies. There are numerous factors that make this such a great place. The staff is incredibly polite and helpful. The wings have all these off the wall flavors that people usually wouldn't dare to try, like spicy raspberry, blueberry, peach, and apple. Their hoagies aren't made like any other place. I was recently back in Tyrone for a visit from Florida. We were staying in the home directly behind Mac's and was told they had good sandwiches. I remember this place when it was Heberlings. We would usually go to Dino's at the Nittany Mall in State because we felt it was the best in the area. Well, we have changed our minds. We tried the Hoagies, Pizza, (one of the best I've had), Calzones, and the baked Shrimp. Everything was great and the prices are very reasonable. The staff was also very friendly, from the cashier to the guy behind the meat counter. Yes, Tyrone is a small town and this is a small place but it will surprise you. I can't believe that this past trip to Tyrone was the 1st time I've checked out Mac's. :-O My mom is from a township right up the road, so for as much as I visit, I'm dumbfounded I didn't check this place out sooner! :p Mac's is a deli, cafe, small store (with a stellar selection of chips, pretzels, & drinks) & they even sell homemade soups, salsas & PA ice-cream in their cooler section. -Yum- I'm sure if I lived in Tyrone, I'd take advantage of their in-house meats @ their deli. It's a quaint little place with (I believe) 3 tables, each with 4 seats, & they air live sports from a flatscreen tv up on the wall. So you have the option of either eating there.. or if it's not packed... you can have a seat while they're preparing your order. Being a newbie in there, I wasn't clear on the ordering process ..
