By all standards this shouldn't pass as good pizza. It's floppy and the sauce reminds me of a frozen Mama Celeste. But at the same time it kinda hits the spot. The cheese slices were freshly made and still warm which is more than I can say about some of the other places on the boardwalk whose slices look like they've been sitting out all day. Why people go nuts over Mack's Pizza is puzzling to me but to each their own I guess. The look of the slice is about the best thing I can say about this pizza. The slices are small and $3 each. The cheese is a mix of white cheddar and mozzarella. The crust is thin but not really crispy. You will need a lot of napkins to eat a slice because the oil actually pours off of it making a hand washing a must when you're done eating. The staff are also unfriendly. Oh, and the spices (garlic, crushed red, garlic, oregano) that are on the counters and tables are the Walmart brand "Great Value". Every few years I'll walk by and give them another shot and it seems nothing has changed. Hard pass for me. read more

We got the suggestion to come here from someone who docks their boat in the marina by the shore. I always like to get the opinion of people who actually live in the area to see where the good food is and the locals will go to for their food. We got there right when they were about to close. And I think that they closed early because when we were at the shore was after Labor Day so a lot of the shops didn't stay open as late as they usually did during high tourist season. But I was happy that they let us in, let us sit down and eat it, and let me use the bathroom. The bathroom was definitely key. They had some seats on the outside and a lot of seating on the inside. I will say that out of all of the pizza that we tried during our vacation this one really was number one for me. It's the crispy crispy crust that got me hooked. I like a nice crisp crust so your pizza doesn't get that soggy feel to it. I hate it when a slice droops. And I know you know what I mean by droopy pizza. I got a slice of sausage, my partner got pepperoni, and our daughter got cheese. All three of us devoured our slices. We were happy that we finally got to try it since the day before we got there too late. The pizza was super good and the people who were in the restaurant all had great things to say about their experiences. So try it out! read more

Went to Mack's pizza yesterday and had to wait about 30 mins since they were extremely busy. I had heard all the rants and raves about this place, but I wasn't impressed the least bit. We ordered the buffalo chicken pie and a plain pie. They were having issues with one of their ovens I believe and like I said they were packed so the service was less than desirable and the plain pie needed to stay in the oven a bit longer and it was still doughy and soft. Not crispy at all. Maybe chalk it up to them being busy, but the pizza was no good and neither was the service. To top it all off we had to pay for our meal up front which was odd. The entire thing felt rushed and was just no good. I would not waste my time and eat there again. read more

I love Mack's Pizza, but that speed freak serving customers at the front counter needs to show some consideration for her customers. All she is interested in is making a sale and grabbing your money. She is very disrespectful and dismisses customer's requests. She acts as if you're bothering her. I asked for a straw for my drink and was told she didn't have any, as I was viewing others with straws. When I mentioned this, she said I would have to wait for one. She never did give me one. She also handles the money, wipes off the counters, and serves the slices without washing her hands. She is fast and efficient in serving but her hygiene and customer service is truly lacking. read more

They charge you for bottled water but won't allow you the option to have tap water. They won't allow fountain drink refills and they only take cash. The pizza itself is mediocre. This is one that I have to come to no matter what. I'm only on the boardwalk for 7days and I eat 2 slices a day. This is my daughter's favorite. The pizza has a great flavor. It is cooked well with a bit of a crunch but a soft crust. They use the right amount of cheese and sauce. The sauce has a great taste too. The people that work here are so involved in the making of the pizza its really fun to watch. Don't worry they are eager to wait on you. They can have a line of 20 people that they quickly serve and get moving with fresh slices. I like both locations about the same. All the people are friendly and the service is fast. The upstairs has better AC and larger tables for bigger groups. The downstairs is where the action is! You can watch the pizzas being made and hear the boardwalk sounds! It was so good, I needed to go get my own for lunch the next day. Mack's staff clearly know what they're doing. Grab a seat at the counter, and you'll get a free show of the pizza men working their magic. I swear they must make 300+ pies a day. You can see the entire pizza process from spreading the sauce on the dough, to throwing it into the oven, and pulling it out and boxing it up. The team works like a well oiled machine, with pies flowing in and out, as customers line up requesting more. For seating, they have the counter, as well as two levels of indoor seating. The pizza is so tasty and well made. I had the buffalo chicken white slice and it was one of the best slices I've ever had. The chicken was garlic seasoned and the sauce was so flavorful. Like many reviews, it's hard to say more about Mack's that hasn't already been said. It's my childhood "down the shore" pizza and it remains the same almost 30 years later! The same purple and pink paint, the same menu, the same experience! It's like you never left! Pros: It's a large ooey-gooey pie where the grease drips off into a puddle before you can get the first bite into your mouth. Served piping hot. The rest of the menu is similar with maybe 15 different pizza options and/or toppings. Sure you can come up with a lot and any number of combos, but that's it and that's great! Service is friendly and fast. Price is fair. About 17 for a large cheese pie and a few more dollars for toppings. Cons: Popularity can breed some waits, but they move them fast. Location - there's only two! Other notes: Cash only. Conclusion: Come for the pizza, stay for the tradition.
