I have been seeing Candice for one-on-one trainings and group workouts (with both Candice and JR) for four months now, and I'm so thankful to be here. Rosefit is not your typical personal training outfit. This is not a HIIT gym. There is no built-in competition (though we do like to rib each other). You will not be encouraged to do reps as fast as possible; instead, proper form and how the movement feels for your body is most important. Candice and JR highly value making workouts accessible and (dare I say) fun. They are both quick with modifications if necessary, and have a million different ways to work with or around an injury or any discomfort. Rosefit is appropriate for any age and any physical ability. You will find no deadlifts here, because they aren't necessary. Fascial release and stretching are built into the workouts and trainings. I will also add that this is a friendly and safe space for gender non-conforming individuals - do note, however, that the building's bathrooms are needlessly gendered. (I have started to petition Candice to harass the building owners into changing this.)

With the vague goal of "getting in shape"; I have had great results at Fitness Together. I now have better balance, can stoop, bend and lift things I forgot I was once able to do. Watching what I ate I steadily dropped 20 pounds. The exercise was the key. I am glad the trainers at FT know what they are doing. It has worked for me. The exercises always vary and don't rely on machines so I can add my own workouts. After a hard workout I am never sore for more than one day. Everyone is friendly, knowledgeable and supportive. I just show up. Charlie and Brad are always enthusiastic - even on days when I'm not. There is never more than one other client working out at a time and it is very clean with good changing rooms. Yes, it is costly, but how much have I paid in car maintenance over a lifetime? I am now backpacking in Europe and not sightseeing from a bus - thank goodness. Fitness Together is a great place to jump-start your workout routine.

I've made attempts in the past of awkwardly shuffling around 24-Hour Fitness trying to mimic what I saw in YouTube videos, but ultimately never felt like I understood how to actually lift weights and get any results. Hence, I joined Fitness Together with the goal of learning how to properly and safely lift weights. And I have to say that all the trainers at this location were fantastic. They listened to my goals, created a plan, kept me accountable, and answered by constant questions. In ~14 months of once-per-week sessions, I went from barely knowing what a barbell was to deadlifting and squatting with ease. As of today I have dropped ~1-2% body fat and gained ~8lbs of lean mass since I first started. Not bad! It is pricey, yes. But for me, I feel it was worth it as a way to learn the correct form and habits that I can use in the future. I always felt welcome and encouraged at this location, so I heartily recommend it if you want some help in getting fit but find it difficult to get started.

Even though I have recently started to try out other instructor's classes this last month, I have primarily gone to Priscilla's classes this whole year and she is the reason why I fell in love with Pilates. The way she instructs all classes are so informative and you can tell she has years of experience under her belt. I have never been one to stick to a workout routine but now, I can't wait until I can come back for my next class! During the time I normally go in, Lauren is at the front desk and she is awesome too! Super nice and welcoming, greeting each person by name as they walk in and setting the tone for a great workout. Only note is that it is street parking so give yourself a few extra minutes to find a spot. If you need a sign to take an intro class, this is your sign!

Can say without a doubt that West Seattle Health Club made the time in Seattle bearable. This is a family gym - and has the vibes to match. From the children learning to swim in the large pool area to the childcare and classes, this place really supports health for the entire family. The sauna is hot, and large enough to make sense, and the towel service provides a nice experience for individuals wishing to have a spa like beginning or end to their workout sessions. I will always be grateful to this club for its cheery vibes during the dark, Seattle winter days.

This is what is known as "fraud." Unless you threaten to sue them--unless you're willing to bring them to court--they will keep those funds - the upfront "last month dues" - even though it does not pay for any service whatsoever. The owner, Bethany, used to be an instructor at my current box; and I owe a great deal to her. Because of her knowledge and positive (yet constructive) feedback while I plowed through my first uncoordinated months of CF, I can say that I am fitter than I've been in years. Hell, I'm fitter than I was when I DID think I was fit. First, you should know that I had become a blob before I joined CF. Really. I got winded going up and down stairs and lugged around 50+ more pounds 1 1/2 years ago, so DO NOT WORRY about your fitness level. It's all scalable, and there are beginner classes to get you started if you're new. Boot camp on crack, is how I would describe CrossFit. You do team workouts, individual workouts but in a team environment, you go for personal records (PR's) from anything to running, to weights, to completing a particular workout in x amount of time. I don't think I've done the same exact workout in a year and half yet! Check out LOFT's website for their hours, fees and WODs (Workout of the Day) as I've only been here once. But, it is helpful for you to know that the entrance is in the alley BEHIND the building. (That poor consignment store lady; she was so friendly in directing people back around the building. I must remember to go and check out her store.) LOFT has lots of street parking around, and they have a small lot in the alley. This place has all the CF amenities you would expect, including a pretty high-up rope! Super-secret tip for any CrossFitter: always wear/bring long socks with you, in case of rope climbs and dead-lifts. No rope burns/scraped-up shins, k?) Aaaaand the people here are super-cool; the community, while growing, is small enough that you get to know people from different boxes all the time. It's how we grow the cult... ...Kidding. Despite what you've heard, you only have to sacrifice ONE baby goat to become part of a box. As I've said before, WOD ON!

That's not the issue. The problem is the parking lot, specifically the alley section. There's an ongoing homeless encampment that seems to have been there for a while, and it's gotten to the point where it actively affects members. I've been approached multiple times just trying to get in or out of my car, people asking for money, yelling, or just lingering way too close for comfort. It doesn't feel safe, especially if you're there early in the morning or later at night. It's one thing to be aware that this is a broader issue in the area, but it's another when it's happening directly in the gym's parking spaces where members are supposed to feel secure. There doesn't seem to be any effort to address it or even acknowledge it, which is frustrating considering people are paying to use this facility. Again, the gym itself is fine, but dealing with harassment just to park and walk inside isn't something anyone should have to put up with. Until that situation is handled, it's hard to recommend this location.
