Why post on maps and Yelp you're open till 5pm on weekends when you close almost 5 hours early? The doughnuts and coffee are good but it's a huge inconvenience when you come and it's 1:00 pm and then shop is closed. There used to be more doughnut shops on this corridor but Mackays is the last one standing. I guess the lack of competition means they sell out early certain days but some people just want to grab a coffee, juice, or water and they're missing out on those sales. We haven't had donuts since this zombie apocalypse pandemic began. Our regular place has been closed for months so I left it up to my guy to find an alternative. Mackay's has been around for a while but this is my first time I've had their donuts. Can't say they're better than my fav place but they aren't awful either. I could tell they were freshly made, but something about the taste wasn't optimal. My guy forgot to get my favorite donut (da plain!), that's the donut by which I judge every other donut so I'll admit I should try these again so I can be sure of my opinion. Clean, humble and unassuming little shop for a good donut and a drink. Easy parking and very convenient while waiting for laundry cycle. Asian lady behind the counter was nice and quick. They have big fan running when we went so I'm assuming it doesn't have A/C so not a place to go if you're looking for a place to cool down on a hot day. This place looks like your average local donut shop. They have breakfast burritos and bagel sandies as well. Bagel Bacon Egg and Cheese was good. Came in for donut holes, the sign on the glass said 13 for $2.25. I asked for 26 donuts holes, the lady gathered a donut and 13 holes. I reiterated I just wanted 26 donut holes. She goes to get more in the display and rings me up for 36 holes for $6.75. Couple of things wrong here, I asked twice for 26 not a donut and 13 holes, not 36 holes. Also the price for 36 holes was the price for 39 holes. ($2.25x3=$6.75). Gave me the wrong amount, and charged me for giving me less than what their pricing is. I just visited Mackay's Donuts, which I think was formerly named the Artesia Donut House, located on Artesia Blvd @ MacKay Lane. At around 7:30pm or so on Friday, May 1st, 2015 the guy who was working the store was very friendly and an awesome person, if not the owner of this place, I'd tell 'em to give this guy a raise! The donut holes are 13 for $1.25 and delicious 'lil nuggets of fresh sweetness that are convenient and easy to eat and share. They don't open late as most donut shops usually do, but that's the only downside I see here. Parking is easy, and there's a liqour store and a Japanese restaurant next door in the same complex with other businesses along the Artesia corridor, so it's in a very safe, well traveled area that's busy with lots of local businesses. read more

Consistently the best glazed donut ever! It is one of the best I have ever had. They are the best in the South Bay, let alone Los Angeles. I have friends who drive to come here hoping they have yet to sell out. They only make them fresh and they do not restock, so they sell out quickly. Their croissant sandwiches are the bomb-diggity too. $9 for 6 donuts is still pretty cheap when they are that good! The owners are super nice too. I have to be picky with donuts - I can't afford the indulgence of sugar and fat on a mediocre treat. Mackay's glazed Old Fashioned donuts are worth it, my favorite of the multiple places I've tried in South Bay and at least comparable if not better than my favorites in multiple cities I've lived in. They're gently crispy on the outside with just enough toasted/deep-fried flavor, and moist & fluffy on the inside - not undercooked mushy, not oily, and not too heavy on the nutmeg. I don't like it cake-y (or I'd just get a buttermilk or cake donut). I've also enjoyed the blueberry - good blueberry flavor (yeah, you'd think that should be a given right?) and the apple fritters - also good balance of crunch and moist with decent amount of apple and not too greasy the times I've had it. On the other hand, I just picked up a Boston Cream and found the chocolate glaze barely chocolaty. Lesson reiterated: be picky. read more

We visited at 7:30am on a Friday. They were open with a small line going just outside the building. The service was quick and within a few minutes it was out turn to order. We got a plain cake donut, a glazed cronut and a chocolate cake donut with coconut. Both of the cake donuts were perfectly fried with slightly crispy outsides and tender, moist middles. They were both great, but the star was the cronut! A flaky and buttery middle that almost melts in your mouth with a crisp, slightly chewy exterior. It's worth getting up early for! I'm a donut snob and hold every donut to a very high standard. These are truly excellent. I'm excited to try a yeast donut on my next visit. This is my favorite donut place. I'm an early riser and I've actually gotten donuts that were still warm. The glazed in particular, though the Boston Cream is my favorite. The last Boston Cream I got was so fresh, they had to put it in a box because the chocolate topping was still wet. In my opinion, there is no place with fresher donuts. Soft, delectable bites no matter which donut you choose. I've never receive poor service and, I probably shouldn't say it but, I go there often. I'm elderly and walk with a cane. On days when I order a dozen, the owner carries the donuts to my car. That hasn't happened anywhere else. The Owner is a charming person and runs a fine business. I was short on time one day and ran into another shop desperate for a donut. What a disappointment. Mackay's is my shop of choice. read more
