Dr. Grote takes a holistic approach toward health and doesn't seem over-eager to prescribe medications, as some doctors do. For example, when my daughter had a mild ear infection that wasn't bothering her, he recommended that we wait and see and didn't suggest antibiotics right off. The ear infection was soon gone without having caused my daughter any distress. He is also familiar with herbs and prescribed some to us that were quite helpful. We saw him for two years for a number of issues, and finally we both had complaints serious enough that we left. Among them a painful misdiagnosis (and an easy one -- another doctor diagnosed it correctly from a verbal description); an Rx for an expensive drug when a cheap generic was available; and when I complained that the office staff wasn't treating me well, he scolded me rather than ask what they could do better, at a time when he knew I was in deep grief from the loss of a loved one. The true test of a doctor and his office staff is not how he treats you when everything is good, when you are feeling great, and when you can easily stand to be put on hold for five or more minutes at a time, but when things are hard, when you're in pain, and when you're suffering a loss. Dr. Grote, if you read this, know that I liked you personally, and it wasn't just the one thing, but a collection of problems, including the misdiagnosis which caused one of us months of pain. This past year has been absolute hell for me, I lost my soul dog and the grief was absolutely unbearable. When I came in for a checkup I expected the usual but instead started being interrogated about why I gained weight and why my acne looked so bad. I explained to her my situation and she said that my grief wouldn't have caused me to be in such a bad state. She started asking me incredibly inappropriate questions like was I raped, did I start using drugs, was I being abused, etc. To some this experience may seem uncomfortable but when I've known this woman my whole life and she knows that I'm in remission for anorexia, and have past attempts on my life...this experience was far more than uncomfortable. I left her office crying and hyperventilating to the point that my mother had to sit with me in the car for 15 minutes trying to calm me down enough so I could speak. During one of the lowest points of my life Dr.Torrez chose to not only ignore me but completely destroy any of the little confidence I had left in me. Please do not EVER go to this woman especially if you struggle with mental health or are a girl/woman, she does not have your best interest at heart and I would hate for any other girl to be made to feel the same way I was.

He's retiring and I will miss him as my endo as I have been a patient of his for over 5+ years. When I first saw him my blood sugar levels were out of control but now they're not. Now his staff, 'used to be' excellent like him. There were on top of things and prescriptions were immediately sent, and were just wonderful. Unfortunately, the facility the worked for Western Washington Medical Group has gone downhill and his current staff, is the worst I have ever experienced. They do not call in prescriptions when needed, they do 'not' answer the phone or return calls even if urgent and they are 'extremely' rude. I did not give him a bad score, I gave him an excellent score because Dr. Moore deserves it. But his 'current' staff do not even deserve 1 star. I am going to continue to go some place else that's also excellent (Salute Nutrition) that will help me and I am grateful for that.

The brilliant Dr. Verrilli was my primary care physician for over 20 years--not in Shoreline for…read moremost of the time though. He was at Minor and James in Seattle for a good long while before a shakeup at Swedish caused many of the best doctors to seek other options. Dr. Verrilli helped me with every imaginable problem, from car accident injuries, to the pneumonia I got annually for the last decade of my teaching career, and when necessary, he also sent me to some outstanding specialists. But the thing I credit him with most of all was diagnosing and developing a plan when my husband showed up in his office in March 2004 complaining of stomach pains and weight loss. Some guys would've handed him a few antacids and sent him on home, but Dr. Verrilli ordered blood work,endoscopy, colonoscopy all stat. Sure enough, it turned out to be stomach cancer. It was a rough period, but my guy recovered because of the attention he gave to my spouse's case and the diligence with which he checked in on him in the hospital, even though we had the oncologist (best in the city, again thanks to Dr. V), the surgeon, and a host of others. When the ball got dropped at one point by hospital staff that hadn't started an IV after several hours, Dr. Verrilli raised holy hell (fairly politely) and made sure treatment was provided promptly and correctly. I genuinely think we owe my husband's life to this talented, caring physician. Things to know: on your first visit, he's going to whip through a list of routine but necessary questions. He does this quickly, not because he has no patience, but because he wants it out of the way so that most of your appointment time can be used for whatever it is you came in for. When in doubt, he orders tests. He explains everything, and if you miss something, ask and he'll explain it again, differently if necessary. He works fast while he's in there with you, and that's why you are getting seen promptly, or very close to it. He wants to deal with your concern within your allotted time so that the person after you gets seen promptly, too. He is almost the only doctor out of the dozens I have seen in my many years in Seattle that will apologize if you have had to sit for an unplanned ten minutes waiting for him to come in and examine you. The guy has integrity. During times when one or the other of us was pretty sick but not hospitalized, he would either have someone on his staff call to check on us at home, or he would pick up the phone and do it himself. We would still be seeing Dr. V, even though it now means a drive from South Seattle clear up to freaking Shoreline, but our employment changed and now we have to use Kaiser Permanente doctors, which Dr. Verrilli is not. But you just cannot find a more conscientious and knowledgeable doctor anywhere. Highly recommended.

Dr. Cahn saw me sitting in the waiting room and insisted I sit with him. In fact, I found myself spewing all that was going - for over 45 mins. I left that day with some referrals, potential answers, a link to an article and a feeling that I may just figure out what is going on. Dr Cahn's priority is his patients. He's got the kind of heart that you can only hope for in a family doc. And his PA and NP - the same. Both are incredible. His staff, family, even Lucy (the amazingly gentle and therapeutic office golden doodle) make an appt with him a welcomed visit to get better. I couldn't say enough about the best doctor I've ever had.
