Cheese board with no knife for slicing cheese or getting smaller pieces

Awful Christmas dinner- definitely avoid if you can! Bizarre as soon as you walk in. The hostess is wearing ripped jeans for a holiday meal? Totally classless and that should have been our first red flag. We were seated at one of the bare tables with no decoration, silverware, plates, etc. We waited for about 10 minutes before someone finally greeted us to give us the drink menus. We never got any explanation for if we were clear to go to the buffet, so we flagged down a woman who seemed flustered and told us we could go. The food was average at best. The ribs were probably the most disappointing- I had a bite that I had to spit out because it was just an entire bite of fat- so so gross. My favorite dish was probably the salad with Brussels sprouts but when I mentioned that to my uncle he said that his portion was super bitter. There were a few tables cluttered with bins of utensils and napkins just out next to the coffee station. It seems like no effort was put into cleaning up or having a nice atmosphere. There was garbage on the carpets too. The only staff member who was upbeat or friendly or didn't seem totally out of it was the gentleman at the carving station. At the dessert station, the cheese board had little tongs but no knives to cut pieces off of the blocks of cheese. The dessert selection was limited, hadn't been refilled, and most of the dishes didn't have serving utensils, so people had to grab portions with their hands. Gross!! It's clear to see why you never hear about this place. I've lived ten minutes away for 30 years and never hear about anyone going here- now I know why.

View in the patio- ??! This is for my fancy party and we have to look at this -yikes

Hosted a private dinner here for 20 doctors and they never notified me that they were in the middle of renovations. It was so embarrassing for all of my guests. We had to tell them to stop drilling so we could hear ourselves. I suggested they offer a $25 gift certificate to each guest but was refused. The entire experience was awful and totally avoidable if they had AT ANY POINT contacted us to let us know of the inconvenience. Poor management! We opted for the patio and didn't realize we'd have a crappy view of the staff transportation food was about as good the management.

I had driven by this restaurant so many times and recently decided to give it a try with my partner. Our dishes were served really quickly as we were one of three tables. The server was attentive enough without being overbearing. The portion for the fettuccine was large and they were generous with the prawn. The cheesecake was slightly gritty so I would not recommend it. This restaurant has been operating for over 20 years so I would definitely recommend giving it a try for yourself.

Keep an eye out for tables & patrons who are laughing & having a great time right outside the door- good sign. Also seems to be a locals hangout which is awesome! Lots of craft cocktails, snacks & food menu with great service. Makes sense if their upscale big brother Michelin starred restaurant Protege is right across the street! Had an Its Alright Cocktail and it was very well balanced and the flavors paired & complemented each other perfectly. Coming back again for sure! Except they seem to always be busy! I knew it was on California Ave. This was an old haunt of mine back when The Edge dance club was the place to be in this part of Palo Alto. Over the years I had still visited the area for its restaurants and the old camera store Keeble & Shuchat (closed for many years). Stepping into the very dark bar lit by small candles on the table I was immediately reminded at how old I was. It would say it was intimate, but it was a bit too loud to be that. However, it did have an intimate vibe. This joint's specialty (I assumed) was a menu full of house drinks. Sadly, I did not recognize any of them. I went with "You Should Try It" and it was fine. I could not describe what it tasted like, other than it was a mixed drink. My buddy ordered a "Vesper" but it didn't seem like the one Daniel Craig ordered in "Casino Royale". Service was okay and our server was very busy. Still, we got our drinks without having to wait too long. I had forgotten what it was like to go to a popular bar. Pic time.

The environment had a nice dim moody atmosphere. It was quite an intimate space and the interior was cozy. We decided to sit at the bar. The service was good. It's a first come first serve seating. Our server worked quickly to get us seated and we were handed menus. As soon as I saw the menu, I think it was right for this to be called a French Californian restaurant because I noticed not all the items on the menu were French. Some restaurants call it French when it's really French fushion. We decided to share poulet roti knowning that the portions were going to be American. It was perfect for 2 people. I don't know how 1 person could have devoured the entire plate themselves. What I really appreciated about this dish is that the chef didn't over dress the salad. I'm not sure why Americans like to drench their salad leaves in sauce to the point where the dressing is all you tasting leaving out the fresh ingredients. It was perfectly dress. Not too much not too little, just enough to lightly coat the salad leaves. The poulet was very well cooked and it was accompanied by a side of gravy. On top of that, the salad come with decent sized crutons and pork belly. I like how the chef made the crutons properly. Some restaurants thinly slice some bacon and sprinkle it over the salad; whereas, this restaurant had pork belly shaped the same size and shape as the crutons which added more texture and flavor to the salad. Both ingredients blended very well into the salad to the point where I didn't know if the bite I had taken had a cruton or a pork belly. Throughout our meal, our server made sure we were well accommodated asking for feedback and inviting us to have drinks/dessert. This is definitely worth it and I would return here again!

They helped guide us through the menu and we're really knowledgeable about the dishes. I also had the pleasure of meeting the new chef on my most recent visit, he is passionate and energetic, I look forward to returning to sees what he comes up with next. Highlights: The Beef Tongue skewer, my sister said it was the best she'd ever had. The Embered Scallops, presented beautifully in the shell with a dreamy chili cognac butter A Tie between the Chocolate Tart and the Bread Pudding. Save room for dessert! Honorable: Housemade Parker Rolls ( get the whipped ricotta and mascarpone) Cons: The music can be a little loud in the back room for conversation. (Request the front room or outside for a more mellow experienced) The plastic chairs in the from dining room, they look great, they feel like I'm at a company picnic. (I like to be balanced, no one is perfect) Overall Sekoya is one of my favorite new spots in Palo Alto and I can't wait to keep bringing friends and family there. However, we spent over $230 on a meal that, overall, was nothing particularly memorable. What Stood Out: - Service: The service was good. The staff checked on us regularly and promptly wiped down the table whenever it got messy during the meal. - Butterscotch Pudding: A nice way to end the meal. It was creamy and not overly sweet. What Fell Short: - Beef Tongue & Scallops: Both were overly salty, which was disappointing. - Crudo: I understand this is an upscale restaurant, and I wasn't expecting budget-friendly prices. However, $25 for just four pieces of crudo was still quite a surprise. - Steak: The steak was good, but nothing particularly special or memorable.
