Had a great dining experience at Macado's today! It has been years since I was last there. Was there around 2p. I it was quiet (lunch crowd gone). I have to mention that the menu has a huge selection. The food was good and you get a lot for your money. I had to take half home. My husband ate the leftovers and loved it. I got the lasagna with hot garlic bread, a huge salad. I got dessert to go. The Madison Mud Brownie, also delicious. The service was great! My waitress was very friendly and attentive. I've been eating at Macado's since the early 80's, and to this day it remains one of my favorite restaurants. If you're in the mood for sandwiches, this is THE place to go! Take one look at the menu, and you will understand why. They have got to offer at least 40-50 sandwich options, as well as quesadillas, salads, fajitas, and to-die-for desserts. The French Twist alone, is reason enough to eat here! If it's up your alley, the bar offerings are also very good. The service might be slow; but the drinks are usually well made and they often have seasonal drinks for the holidays. The beer and wine selections are not exceptional, but are a lot better than your typical mall-restaurant offerings. More likely than not, you'll find something you like. read more

I have spent too much money at this restaurant over the years and it is because I enjoy the food, but for several other reasons I am rating them a one star. 1. Service is bad 8 out of 10 times, that includes but not limited to being slow and the wrong order. 2. After a certain hour of the day they insist that you have an ID just to enter the door even if you are not planning to drink. 3. Mobs of people handout at the front door smoking when they are busy, so you will smell like smoke just in the short time you try to enter the door. read more

4 stars for the food, one of my faves. I would give 5 stars, but I don't know what it is about Macados but service is always SO slow! That is my only complaint though. The salsa con queso is a must. On Fridays they have it half off, so a $3/4 appetizer- can't beat that. The Ragtime on a bagel is what I usually order. The burgers are great too. Service was great, our waitress refilled our water and tea frequently. Not many healthy options on the menu so I ordered a salad without dressing, croutons, or cheese. If you are looking for a sports bar that serves bar food in large proportions for a great price, this is your spot! Macado's is an independently owned small chain of restaurants mostly located around southwest Virginia. Great for lunch or a quick and cheap dinner. The menu consists mostly of sandwiches, but there are a few entrees. The food is far from spectacular, but the atmosphere takes your mind off the mediocre meal. You need to go at least once if you are an infrequent visitor to this area. read more

We went there and were served stale nachos. The cheese sauce tasted like powdered cheese. The service was slow and they weren't busy. I got a burger that was pretty dry. The best thing about my meal was the hot crinkle cut fries. I was disappointed, as this used to be a favorite restaurant of mine in the Blacksburg area. read more

Food: This place serves the most disgusting wings I have ever paid money for. They taste like they are precooked, frozen, then microwaved before dripping a little sauce over them. No crispiness whatsoever. The breading was soggy and graying, which just tells you just how old and disgusting it is. I couldn't finish 2 wings before tossing the rest in the trash. I also had a burger that was cooked nicely, but was completely overtaken by their large, thick, soggy, SWEET bun. I couldn't even taste the burger because the bun was so sweet. And I always throw a little shade when the bun isn't toasted. Big burgers need a toasted bun to handle the juices. Soggy, sweet bread isn't my idea of a good burger bun. Service: Sucks. I waited 10 minutes to be helped in the lobby. After 5 minutes I wandered to the bar to say hello to the bartender. No one was behind the bar either. Back to the lobby. A server walked past me 3 times before I finally stopped her and asked if anyone could grab my takeout order. Finally someone brought my order. She decided to open the containers of food without my asking, so I could verify the contents. This effectively let out what little heat was remaining after all my waiting and I got a nice cold meal back at the hotel.. Thanks for nothing. Bottom line: This place is not a restaurant. It is a watering hole. Come here for alcohol and loud out-of-place music, not food. read more

WORST EXPERIENCE EVER!! My daughter-in-law ordered a salad and requested there be no bacon on it as she is allergic. The salad comes with bacon and we assume the server didn't hear as the table across from us was ear piercingly loud. We tell her that she's allergic and she takes it back to have it remade. The salad comes back with bacon pieces under the lettuce. They had just skimmed it off. Luckily, we noticed before she put the dressing on. I asked to speak to the manager. He came out and apologized. He asked if we wanted a discount and my daughter declined as we explained that we were more concerned with the kitchen staff understanding that it could have been a serious medical issue had we not noticed it. The server never asked what side item I wanted with my entree. We had to ask for our drinks to be refilled. When the food came out my husband and daughters food was ice cold. My daughter-in-laws chicken was cold and had the texture of a tire (rubbery). The knife that was given to her to cut the chicken had dried, crusty remains of whatever it had cut last. She asked to speak to the manager again at this point, deciding that she would like to take him up on the discount since the entire experience was so horrible. He actually had the audacity to be rude to her. At no point, were we rude, loud, hateful, or cursing and for him to be nasty after an such an awful experience...I won't be visiting them again. I've lived In the Roanoke area for over 12 years and generally enjoyed Macados... I've been to most locations in the area. Unfortunately - it's just gotten worse each time over the past few visits to the point I just don't think I can keep eating there. This most recent visit caused a person in my group to get extremely ill after eating the Brooklyn Bridge sandwich. We think the turkey on the sandwich was bad (smelled funky). This was the 2nd consecutive time we've had someone get sick - once at the location by Tanglewood and this time at the Lynchburg location. The service the last few times has been poor to really bad - slow service, forgetting silverware and napkins and this last visit the server brought out one of our two meals and no silverware so we just sat there waiting for the rest of our parties meal... for about 5 minutes. The staff is generally not friendly and the food just isn't good anymore to the point it'll make you sick! I hate to post this review but after 12 years something is just fundamentally wrong across all the Macados location. I am not sure what it is but I hope the fix it. read more

I've been coming to Macado's since I moved here in 2001. This place is more of bar for locals than it is a restaurant. Macado's has the look and feel of Church St. Station in Orlando, FL before it was decimated by it's last British owners. I've never had a bad meal here. The menu is very prolific in that they managed to put together every conceivable sandwich one could possibly imagine. The burgers may very well be the best in town, the salads are MONSTER SIZED and designed well. Wings are great and they .39 wings after 4pm on Mon with the $5.95 domestic pitchers. A bargain if you ask me. As you can see I ordered the the massive Scooner @@. With that said, service here can been hit or miss, especially during lunch. I once actually had to walk out when I was on my lunch break and grab something quick at Hardee's next door. Basically I was seated in a totally empty dining room area by the hostess and not one waiter showed to even take a drink order for 30 minutes. Also the BGM can be too loud at times for lunch. Two things that should be addressed by upper management. They would receive a 5 star rating from me if this was fixed. Other than that, the food quite good here. read more

Arrived at 3:15 PM and the place was empty. After waiting for about 5-7 mins for someone to even notice that we were standing at the hostess stand. We actually smelled her before we saw her. I am sure he was just out smoking somewhere because she smelled like an ashtray. Our waitress was prompt in getting our drink order. Unfortunately, she too smelled like cigarettes. Once our orders were placed, they took about 20 mins to come out. We both ordered sandwiches. My husband asked for his to be cold, not grilled as stated in the menu. The server said that was fine and I saw her make a notation. I ordered a Reuben. To be fair, I am fairly picky about my Reuben's. I expect for the rye to be grilled crispy, my sauerkraut to be fresh and not watery, I also expect to have lean corned beef and be able to taste the swiss and the 1000 Island dressing. My Reuben was none of those things. I could not even tell if there was cheese or dressing on the sandwich. The corned beef had at least a 1/2 an inch of fat on every piece. The bread was lightly toasted and by the time it arrived the dampness of the sauerkraut hand already made the bottom half of the bread soaking wet. I have only had one Reuben that was worse than this one. My husband's sandwich came out grilled and he said something to the kitchen runner who brought it out that he had ordered it cold not hot. He just shook his head and said "I guess I can have them remake it". Since it was now nearing 4 PM, my husband said no and ate it grilled. The server did come back once after our food arrived to refill our drinks. We did not see her again until she brought us our check. We have had several bad experiences at the location in Roanoke but thought this location would be better. Unfortunately I was incorrect. Steer clear of this chain. read more

Been in lynchburg for 2 weeks now on business...i always hit up local joints as the nationwide chains i can catch anywhere. I always ask the hotel staff for recommendations as well. Macados was never mentioned. I read yelp comments and formed an opinion that i did not want to patron this place...however, another hotel guest mentioned they had come and loved it. This peaked my interest. So my coworkers and i stopped in for dinner. It was after 8 on Wednesday night, it was not very busy. We ordered nachos, wings, and sandwiches. Everything was delicious! It arrived quickly, the server was very friendly and the only complaint we had was there was too much food. The portions were extreme! Needless to say, i give this place a thumbs up. I have been back the next night for a visit to the bar, and it is busy...however same service. Very pleased. read more

The food is always awesome. The customer service however was horrible on our last trip there. The hostess was not there to greet us upon our arrival and when she did show up, she had a huge attitude! Then our waitress was just as rude and very short with us. She brought us our drinks, took our order, brought us our food, and that was it. We had to ask for refills and our check when we were ready to leave. We wanted our check split in 3, and you would have thought we asked for the moon. The slowest kitchen in Virginia. The food was very average. We had the stogie and the bacon was far from Crisp. Coleslaw was floating in liquid. We waited about an hour to get our food. Definitely will not come here again. Others in the party had difficulty with getting their check corrected. It took three times to correct the overcharge. Balloons for kids, gentleness and patience with senior citizens, what this place may lack in sophistication makes up for in decency. Came here because the food I packed for a very long road trip ran out and was super hungry and wanted healthy options. Opted for their new summer menu Baja Fish Taco, and while it was fried and not available grilled, and they'd initially forgotten the avocados, it was satisfying. Also tried something called the Colada Under Fire which is a piña colada made with vanilla ice cream topped with a shot of fireball. It's tasty, like a stumbling boozy milkshake but I could only drink about 1/3 of it for my liver's sake and for my lactose intolerance sanity. My food and drinks got there quickly, and my server, Megan, was sweet and speedy. She even bartered for avocados when they'd forgotten it in my tacos! She got me I n and out in 30 minutes. In the future I would suggest they fill their plates, the fries and fish tacos felt sparse. The side salad was a good generous option at $2 which made up for the fries not available with a salad replacement. They also have a ton of TV screens should you need a place to watch sports. So definitely not a five star restaurant, but good for a family night out, a beer to watch a game at the bar, or a quick stop in between places when on the road. read more

How disappointing. Don't know if it was the wait staff or kitchen's fault, but the service was TERRIBLE. The food took forever to come out. The bloody marys and cosmos were straight from a mix, and not a very good one at that. Was told the drinks took a little longer because the bartender was waiting tables too. Food has always been decent, service varies. The wings specials on whichever days those occur and the cheap cinnamon sensations (large cinnamon roll topped with ice cream) on Friday nights are great. This was THE WORST restaurant experience I've had in my life. We walked in the door at 2:53, and didn't even get our appetizers an hour later. Our main food didn't even come till 4:40, and even when it did, it was all cold and stale. We were getting up to leave without eating, (because we couldn't take it any more) and they wanted us to pay for the cold food that we had taken 1 bite out of. We didn't get one apology. On Thursday night, March 3, 2016, at approximately 8:00PM, my husband, four year old son, and myself pulled into your restaurant in Lynchburg for a fun family dinner. We have been to this restaurant many times and have been pleased with the food, service, and atmosphere. We expected this night to be the same. When we arrived we were forced to walk through a group of three rowdy/drunk "adults" smoking in the door well. We were forced to walk through their smoke to enter the building. Immediately upon stepping inside, the rowdy bar crowd was singing something.... "Don't give a damn". We knew immediately this was not the restaurant we were expecting. We refused seating by the hostess and left, again forced to walk through the main doors and clouds of cigarette smoke. This time the group of three "adults", without any provocation, started cursing directly at us and shaming us for bringing a child to "this" restaurant. I can't tell you how many times we heard Mother F*&*(^ come out of the mouth of a self-proclaimed 38 year old women/child. We called the manager of this establishment who had nothing to offer except "we try to keep them away from the front door, I apologize". I am appalled and disgusted that this behavior was occurring, much less at 8:00 on a weekday night. Your website declaring a family/kid friendly restaurant is false. If you have no more respect for your place of business and for the patrons you serve, I will certainly decline to visit your establishment, and encourage other families to do the same. read more

We waited about five minutes I looked around the corner to a well attended bar and a few Empty Tables. We sat down at a clean table thinking that we would get service. When we first walked in we stood at the door for a good 10 minutes, and when someone finally helped us we waited at the table for our drinks for 20 more minutes. Then a male waiter (waiter #1)comes out and tells us it's going to be a 45 minute wait because the kitchens backed up. So we eventually get our food by (waiter #2) and my friends burger is raw and I wanted ranch for my wings. I asked for ranch more than once. My sister also didn't get her salad until we talked to the manager. The reason we had to talk to the manager is because this female worker (whom wasn't even doing her job and stared at us the whole time) came up to us and told us to leave because there is no waiter who would serve us anymore. So we talk to the manager and he seems like a genuine guy, and he says he never said that and he asked the female worker to ask what we needed. So I'm guessing the female worker was lying?? Went in to this restaurant with it being my favorite in town, left absolutely despising the place. Our waitress was Jesse h. And she was rude and snobby the entire time. Which might I add was the longest time I have ever spent in a restaurant waiting. We get there we get our drinks pretty quick get her order and also pretty quick, and it all goes downhill from there with our snobby rude waitress disappearing after dealing with us every time, I asked for a refill on my sweet tea when the glass was half-full and I still did not have my refill by the time the glass was empty. I had to get the even Ruder bartender Erica to grab my waitress for me because she wouldn't even get my refill for me cuz I guess that was not her job then my boyfriend's mother when everyone gets their food realizes that the bun that came with her hot dog was supposed to have butter along the side of it and be toasted which she noticed had not happened so she sends it back and wants a whole new one not to mention she ordered it with coleslaw on it and her side was french fries which they put the coleslaw as her side and then she precedes to have to wait for them to drop some more fries it took 30 minutes from the time we ordered if not longer for us to get our food, then she sends it back and has to wait another 30 minutes and she still hasn't gotten her new hot dog when she finally does get it it looks like they just took the bun off slap some butter on it maybe maybe not even put the butter on and grilled it a little bit and put it back together she still hasn't done her fries which they said had been dropped but by this time she has decided she just doesn't even want it tries to speak to the waitress about it who just immediately responds with I'll get my manager so obviously she saw this coming but didn't try to fix it before it occured. The pain we have to wait another 20 minutes before the manager finally shows his face which is a young man who immediately takes up for his waitress and says that she is one of the friendliest they have. Wish if that is the case maybe she was just having a bad night but they must have some pretty shity waitresses. So he agrees to take her meal off and get up the ticket without her hot dog and boxes for my hamburger and fries, and my boyfriend's chicken alfredo. She comes back with the boxes watches me move my burger from the plate to the box I move the half that I ate 1/3 of and then I met the other half when I do it kind of falls apart so I have to put it back together to move it so my hand my fingers kind of goes into the burger so when I lay it on the box and remove my hand a hair a long black hair that is clearly not mine because I am a blond comes out with it. I look at the waitress and say a hair just came out you saw that didn't you she said yes then starts to try to say it's mine and I don't even entertain it I immediately asked for the manager who comes over sees how shaken up I am over the hair which I have a phobia about, and agrees to remove it as well. By this time we have been waiting and waiting the staff the waitstaff the bartender and the manager all go into the kitchen I go in there to ask for my box in the ticket and they're all huddled in a circle probably talkin about what just went down. The bartender Erica begins to scream at me customers not allowed in the kitchen and get out blah blah blah I have to yell over her just to ask for our ticket in our boxes. This was the absolute worst experience I have ever had in any restaurant I've ever been and I am 29 years old and I have dated a lot of places and just a personal experience was absolutely horrible the management obviously was absolutely horrible the overall weigh the food turned out was absolutely horrible and I just can't believe that it went down the way that it did the bartender is over there talkin about how rude and disrespectful we were the entire night install time she's being rude disrespectful I mean I almost feel like she is trying to fight me and she's walking away asking me if I wanted a to-go cup for the tea I'm holding and I literally did not respond to her because I thought she was asking me to fight it was just her tone. I do not recommend this restaurant to anyone not as long as the staff that is there is there. I will be calling and speaking to management tomorrow and hopefully it will be different management because every single one of these people need to lose their job the waitress the bartender and the manager. read more

One of the best regional chains around. I travel for work frequently and can always count on macados to deliver. Great happy hour prices and daily specials (Monday-wings, Tuesday-burgers, etc). Located near lots of hotel chains. Bartender was on top of everything. Try it out! read more

Good clean pub environment. TV. Music. Wood floors. Center bar. Noisy and crowded. A great place to be with friends. Booths make it easy to get away from the crowd. The bar tender didn't know how to make a Manhattan. So, maybe the place to drink beer on tap. read more
