The owner is so friendly and down-to-earth, and the workers/Staff there are very professional. I particularly love their skincare line, and I have changed my entire skincare products to Adoniaa products. The thing that strikes me the most is the ambience of their stores whenever I visit - always so clean and receptive. Please bring back your hydrafacial discount package. I can't remember the name you gave the package, but I'm referring to the 3-in-1 facial combo that includes hydrafacial. Thank you for being such a great business. Simi

From our brand essence to brand expression, local models, products offering, event ideas, etc. Adoniaa has access to us through social media and backstabbing mutual Nigerian friends we had in common. Competition is usually about one person or company trying to prove that they are better than the other though their competitive advantage. I am highly confused and lost because I have never been in a competition where my opponent is faithfully trying to copy and duplicate everything I do. Over the years I have tried to be innovative and continue to come up with new ideas and leave the ones Adoniaa has copied to maintain product differentiation. Every time we have done that Adoniaa will also leave the idea and work on copying the new one. It is the most annoying behaviour and it has cost us way too much money as we continue to put in efforts to build our unique brand. I am a South Sudanese war survivor. Most of my people came to Canada as refugees and have been given asylum by United Nations because our country has been going through civil wars for decades. I am trying to be a beacon of hope for the South Sudanese youth in Calgary and around the world. I am not trying to compete with anyone but commit to excellence in all that I do. Adoniaa's predatory copying behaviour has negatively impacted my mental health. To me, a strong woman is not the woman that steps on another woman to get ahead but the one that carries the woman with her. Since Adoniaa admires me so much and loves my work, she should be coming up with ideas to collaborate with me instead of trying to step on me to get ahead. From my experience, I see a very selfish and controlling narcissist with a need for power. She cares about status, money, and personal gain and nothing else. She will probably end up copying the ideas of everyone at the Adoniaa Collective. The last straw that broke the camel's back for me is the copying of my skincare line. Adoniaa started copying my brand from the private label manufacturers in Toronto. I left them for her and sourced one in BC. She followed me there and copied my skincare line and nail polish with the same manufacture. I left all the Canadian manufacturers for her and went with a clinical medical dermatologist formulated skincare line from California to have safe and effective products for my cancer clients whom I give free wigs and cosmetics through Beauty Response to Cancer. It was also my competitive advantage and differentiation strategy from the brand. Adoniaa is now launching the exact product line copying everything except our logo. We have had these products since 2016. Our cancer patients clients undergoing chemotherapy and radiation treatments need these products and we cannot show up in the community with duplicate products. Enough is enough. Adoniaa cannot claim they are empowering women or black businesses in Calgary while oppressing another black woman and black brand. Nigerians are doing way better than South Sudanese people here in Calgary. I am trying to be a positive role model for my community especially the youth. It is impossible to do my work in peace knowing that this predator is watching my every move and will be counterfeiting my ideas no matter what innovative idea I come up with. I feel trapped with a need to expose this brand with the hope for the toxic behaviour to stop. It was not easy for me to come out and write this review. I have tried everything in my power to resolve this issue quietly but all my efforts have proven to be ineffective. I pray for this brand for deliverance from this demonic spirit and need to oppress others and hope that they will finally do the right thing. I am sure I am not the only black brand or business that have experienced this with Adoniaa. I am hoping they will also summon the courage to speak out and help other women who maybe too vulnerable to stand up for themselves.

I can't say enough good things about the team at Curious Salons…read more I didn't personally get my hair done there (yet!), but I met their staff at the Alberta Children's Hospital Radiothon (February 2025), where they volunteered for the Life Shavers fundraising event. And wow--what an incredible group of people. I was so impressed that I checked out their website and came across this in their mission statement: "Curious hair transforms heads and hearts, all while giving back to the community that has embraced us. Join us on a journey of beauty, purpose, and community empowerment like no other." And they truly live by that. Not only did they show up for the event, but I also heard stories of families who, in the middle of their child's cancer treatment, were given free head shaves when their little one lost their hair. It's clear that this salon isn't just about hair--it's about kindness, community, and real human connection. If you're looking for a salon that actually gives back and supports people when it matters most, you need to check them out. They deserve all the support in the world!

We of course had a consult and test strand before she started, and she made sure we could get what I was looking for. Highly recommend going to see her, she is very sweet and so talented!
