Wow the electrician came out and said I needed 2 new electrical panels and surge protectors for right around 20,000 and HVAC maintenance division said there was a Freon gas leak and which they promptly gave me a price of 27,000$$$$ for a new HVAC. I asked if copper pipe was to be replaced as part of repair...said yes... did the repair, talking in the driveway and he went into my garage nosing around? Afterward I looked at repair, he had covered pipe with black insulation which looked like crap, removed it to discover repair was NOT copper as stated but some white pipe... hope it holds up...seemed more interested in signing me up for a service plan that just doing what I asked him to do... read more

I was never able to speak with owner Steve M. despite three phone attempts after he posted this message. I did eventually speak with a manager who reviewed additional photos of the faulty work Mac 5 had done the year before. He admitted that one of the jobs was only halfway completed; on the other job, he offered to send his plumbers to fix this faulty expansion tank joint "at a discount." I told him that I had since fixed it with another contractor at my own cost, and never want Mac 5 to work in my house again. He did agree to refund half of the cost of the incomplete job, which has since arrived. I am thus half satisfied on one of the two jobs they did, though of course they should have done the complete job in the first place. In accepting that refund, Mac 5 requested that I "will not post or author any detrimental reviews, blogs, etc regarding the Mac 5 Services Company in any form, whether written or oral." Because they did not redress my grievance regarding the faulty repair listed here-- for which I was not willing to pay for further unnecessary work-- I maintain my right to this review. I am curious to what extent this company (or any other) can demand retraction of information and opinion in public forums. Some corporate forces may want to abolish First Amendment protections, but as far as I know, they remain in place. read more

Last month I had an emergency at my house and I had Mac five come out. They ended up charging me $500 to give me an estimate of seven to $11,000. I also had a generator which didn't come on later to find out that all he had to do was basically show me how to manually switch it over But they were more worried about charging me over $500 for an estimate and basically telling me what was wrong and how they could fix it. Please be careful if you have any issues with electrical make sure you do research before you have them come out. There are other companies and they have terrible reviews on yelp. read more

I just want everyone to know to ask the estimate before the job begins because we were charged $371 for drain cleaning. Wow a ridiculous amount of money in less than an hour for shower drain cleaning!! They charged me a $180 diagnostic fee to tell me: Option 1: it costs $400 to replace 3 lights switches Option 2: it costs $900 to replace 3 light switches and rewire the junction box, without pulling any new circuits, just the wiring between switches. Option 3: it costs $1200 to do option 2, plus hang a ceiling fan. Beware! They will rip you off before they even start fixing anything. read more

I have had this service for the last 2 years. They SUCK... I had my annual service done and everything was great as the tech told me. Fast forward 48 hours my system shut down. I called MAC 5 out because I did have a service plan. They told me I lost 3lbs of gas in that time frame, so they offered me a deal to add dye to see where the leak was and the additional 3lbs of gas that was there before the technician went to work. I said give it to me because obviously if you 3 lbs of gas that is a major problem. Fast forward to today...the persons is no longer employed with Mac 5 and they took my money on what they caused. Manager told me I would be reimbursed if they were not able to sublease their techs problem. They didn't and this is by and away a company I will never promote nor give another dime of my money. $780 to repair/replace a toilet shutoff valve plus 5 other shutoff valves in the house. A plumber was dispatched quickly to do the work. After I found one of the replacement valves leaking, they immediately returned to my house to fix the issue (at no extra cost of course). Great customer service. read more

On October 21st they came to check my AC unit. I was informed I have a Freon leak. I opted to refill to see if the leak would seal with the leak seal UV dye. George informed me there really is no way to check diagnostic of an AC unit. If the Presher is low, it means there is a leak. He put in the sealer with dye, then filled the freon. The total bill $1072.55 $355.30 for the freon, $717.25 for the leak seal with UV dye. On the 22nd I found out the UV dye costs under $20.00. I called and spoke with Jason the manager. And asked him why they charged so much for the UV dye. He stated that is the going rate. And the bulk of the bill is always the freon. [ Yet the freon was half the price of the UV dye] And putting that in is very technical. It took 5-15 sec. After he hooked it up. I also asked him why it wasn't explained to me that a diagnostic can be done on AC's. He stated that there was a diagnostics run on my machine he had a picture of it in the report. He stated that a lot of the technicians don't explain to consumer because it is technical, and we wouldn't understand. So in their eyes they can charge whatever they want. [the government needs to look into this. Clearly, they are price gouging]. read more
