We have had several service visits, including one to our new house right after we moved. Unresolved permitting issue…read more I hired Sunshine Cooling Solutions to replace two HVAC systems at my Clermont home in June 2026. After the installation, I discovered that the required mechanical permit had not been obtained. I contacted the owner, Sam McClure. After I provided the applicable permitting requirements from the City of Clermont, he acknowledged in writing that an After-the-Fact Mechanical Permit should be obtained and said he would begin the process. Despite repeated attempts to resolve the issue, no permit application has been submitted. The City of Clermont independently confirmed that no permit application had been filed. I have filed complaints with DBPR and the BBB and notified Daikin because I originally selected Sunshine through Daikin's dealer locator. Based on my experience, I recommend that homeowners ask about permitting requirements and verify that required permits have actually been obtained before hiring this contractor.

To Frank Gay's credit, they came out quickly and determined that the capacitor had blown. I was relieved because it was an older unit. However, the service tech insisted that my machine needed to be replaced. He said it was in critical condition and showed me the readout. He said it was over-amping and wouldn't last two months. Fortunately, they had a "special" going on for new units. Sounded like a sales pitch so I took a picture of the readout he showed me and uploaded it to ChatGPT. It said not to trust those numbers because they were way off and it looked like the probes were reversed. ChatGPT encouraged me to call someone else. So I did. Chilly Billy's came out today - two days later. The AC guy was named Nas - very easy to talk to and smart. He ran the same tests and determined that while my unit is pretty old - it's working fine. The numbers were well within manufacturer guidelines. They said they would not recommend replacing the unit. So, I learned I can't trust Frank Gay. I cancelled my maintenance membership and found a new HVAC company in Chilly Billy. I'm uploading the photos. One is Frank Gay. The other is Chilly Billy two days later. Trust is a big deal.
