I went to Ma Cuisine with my husband and his parents a few weeks ago. My husband is an Executive Chef at a restaurant in Central London, so choosing any restaurant to dine at is a production...to say the least.
Ma Cuisine is casual inside with cute checker board tablecloths and wooden chairs. My only complaint about the ambiance is that the tables were extremely close together and it was a bit of struggle to sit down. On the other hand, you could view this as a positive, because there were as many tables crammed into the restaurant as possible, and each one was filled with people on a Tuesday night.
Now on to the food. I ordered the French Onion soup to start. A person at a nearby table had a (huge) bowl in front of him, so I decided that I could not resist. Luckily, I was not disappointed in the least. The soup had two big pieces of bread in it, along with some delicious cheese. However, the best part of the soup was that I was actually able to taste all of the spices that were in it. Again, my husband is the Chef not me, so I can't tell you exactly what I was tasting, however, I can say that the flavors sort of endured on the my tongue longer than expected (in a good way). Also, I can say that all too often soup is served too hot and without any seasoning, as if it was burnt out. That was not the case here. It was delicious and you should definitely order it! After my soup, I ate the Duck for my entree. Normally, I do not order duck , ever. But since my soup was so yummy, I decided to take a chance and order something out of the blue. It was so good. The skin was crispy, it was not too gamy, and the jus on the plate was the perfect balance of sweet and savoury. Yummy. Also, there was some type of potato hash on the plate that was simply divine. Since I was obviously so focused on my own delicious food, I can not remember exactly what everyone else ate, but I know that we were all very pleased. There was fork swapping going on the entire evening, and we rediscussed the meal the next morning (something that rarely happens in this family).
The service was good, not great. They were busy, but our food and wine still arrived in a timely manner. Our server wasn't exactly the chattiest fellow, but that is not always a bad thing.
As I said before, the tables were all full. There were a few couples, but also a lot of families. Not the screaming-kids kind of families, but families with older children who knew how to behave at a restaurant. Since all of the tables were full, and all four of us at our table had delightful meals, I would expect that Ma Cuisine is the type of place that you can go for consistently good food...something that I value very much in a restaurant. read more
