Very French is design, in the food it produces, the wine that it sells and the staff that work there. With many good reviews and awards with a highly acclaimed chef, this is one of the best places to eat in Chiswick and might even give some of the more famous restaurants a go for there money ? Chef Malcolm John says that they use organic produce wherever possible and only source the very best meat and fish. They have regular gala evenings where they showcase seasonal produce and it is normally a fixed piece for the evening and is normally accompanied by a wine tasting session also. Bistrot set up, suitable for couples and friends. Went there after a day at Kew Gardens. Love the decor and food was delicious. Quite a busy restaurant so will definitely recommend booking ahead. We started with escargot and the mackerel ceviche. Mains were rump steak and coq au vin (chicken was succulently tender). Dessert were apple tart and rhubarb crumble. Service: 9/10 Food: 8/10 Ambience: 8/10 5 course meal with a glass of Cremant was definitely value for money! It was the standard 3 course with an amuse bouche and pre-dessert. read more

I like this place, a lot! I haven't been as often as I'd like, mainly due to the fact it is quite a pricey restaurant and in spite of what people may say, you certainly can get too much of a good thing, so don't want to put myself in that position with this place ;) The service is excellent, the decor is classy, the food is amazing and classically French and they have a pretty decent wine list to boot. It never seems overcrowded here which to be honest, when i have been there, is a good thing as it keeps the noise levels down but I really hope this doesn't mean they aren't getting the footfall they deserve. This place is slightly off the beaten track but well worth that trek (hardly a trek, just sounded like a good word to round off that review...) I really hope this place makes it because I went here on a voucher deal and I was impressed. It was kinda empty at lunch time on Saturday but maybe that was just the time of day. It's sort of out of the way but if I lived in that neighbourhood, I would go all the time. We had a set menu, which was a little restrictive but everything was very good classic French. I had a most delighful experience at Le Vacherin on Friday evening with my fiance. I would highly recommend the cheese platter, as it is a delightul and quirky starter. She loved her creme bruele and I absoltely loved my steak, which was cooked to perfection. Even if it was a bit pricey, I would say its damn worth the price. Except, when I left and bid them farwell there was dog poop that was outside their restuarant that I found that extremly sickening that when I got home and vomited my food. Two stars. read more

Lovely ambience and fantastic food, one of Chiswick's hidden gems. The atmosphere is formal but staff are friendly and very accommodating. The vacherin platter was generous in proportion and definitely a must for cheese fans, and the venison fillet was one of the best I have ever tasted. Another great French restaurant in Chiswick. Nice family atmosphere, good selection of wine and the ChateauBriand is really good. Another good menu choice is there baked cheese starter - something very unique, although I think that might now be off the menu - which is a real shame. Wonderfully knowledgeable and helpful staff (if you like your steak rare they will cook it Blue in a French way - no problem). Overall an excellent dining experience. read more

Wonderful, attentive, but not overbearing service even though we used a Groupon. Had the eggs benedict, sea bream (good but personally not something I'd order again), and strawberry tart. Husband loved his steak and fries and creme brulee. The portion sizes were also really nice for a pricey restaurant. Only thing I would change is the flavor of the herbed butter that came with the bread. I prefer plain, fresh butter. We would definitely return. read more

I had dinner here last night and the food was very good, the wine superb. I am a woman alone traveling on business therefore I had no dining companions. I was greeted by the manager with total disdain, seated in the front room by myself, told the dining room was all booked which it was not and left to feel most awkward. Though an occasional waiter glanced over in my direction I literally waited 45 minutes for my meal. Delicious as it was, I would never go back here. If an establishment does not know how to treat its guest why would I contribute in any small part to its success. Very disappointing. read more

Gives La Trompette a run for its money, potentially suffering only from accessibility issues if on foot. Has a very indulgent vibe, order the baked Vacherin and follow with the chateaubriand and you'll know about it! Love it here though, beautiful restaurant. read more

As I write I struggle between three and four stars. The food I had that night would definitely deserve a four. As the name suggests it is a very French affair. Starting with their signature dish baked vacherin with almonds & truffles, went down really well and 'vacherin' is one of my favourite soft cheeses anyway. For main course the côte de boeuf with béarnaise sauce and matchstick potatoes was very good (especially the frites, which were crisp on the outside and soft inside). I don't want to pretend to know food inside out but it seemed a bit of a pretentious menu that is missing the Wow! factor that would make up for its pretentiousness. After all, if you look at the restaurant's credentials you would expect almost the best-the owner is an ex-Savoy chef- In addition I felt the service was slow as if they could allow themselves to be, or maybe its a ploy to make you consume more wine while you wait. Another thing, be sure to dress smart as you don't want your evening to become uncomfortable because- for some reason- people stare at you if you are not wearing high heels. read more

I visited Le Vacherin for dinner last Wednesday and my oh my was I ever impressed. The restaurant was very nearly full but despite not having a reservation we were made to feel immediately welcome and seated instantly....bread and two kinds of butter were served immediately and our fellow diners had that smug look about them that only people 'in the know' about a great neighbourhood place have. We ordered a very good, very reasonably priced Sauvingon Blanc (under £20) and sat back to peruse the menu. We had actually come in to sample their France for under a Tenner promotion which offers steak frites and a glass of good red for £9.95 having heard great things about it but couldn't resist ordering a starter so kicked off with the Foie Gras with baked fig which was every bit as lovely as it sounded, caramelised Foie and a perfectly juicy fig...heaven. We then had the steak frites which was really good and given the price tag exceptional value for money a thick cut juicy piece of beef and hand made double cooked chips, crisp on the outside and fluffy in the middle.... but I have to say that looking round at what other people were having next time I'm going a la carte at £35 for three courses for this standard of cooking it's the best deal in town.....everyone looked so damn happy, the lighting was perfect, the service unobtusvie whilst remaining attentive and what really tickled my friend was that the lack of annoying music in the restaurant, a particular pet peeve of hers, was evident in the ladies loo which was a lovely touch, she felt that on a date she should waft back to the table on a cloud after having been seranaded with french love songs as she powedered her nose..each to their own...but....it's this attention to detail plus the warmth of the welcome and the great food that makes Le Vacherin such a great and rare find in London. read more

We've been to LV about four times now over the past couple of years and we're never disappointed. It is unashamedly French, the decor is understated (and quite dark!), and the staff are friendly and not too formal. The wine list, as other people have said, is very extensive and for the quality of the food I really don't think it represents bad value for money at all. An exquisite French restaurant on the green. The menu is exceptional - always go for the cheese board! The waiters are very knowledgeable of the preparation and source of the food. Definitely somewhere to go for a special dinner with friends, a romantic indulgence or a celebratory team dinner. I will definitely keep finding reasons to go back for more! read more

Excellent local restaurant doing French food very well indeed. Good for evening meals and Sunday lunches, the times I've been so far. Excellent atmosphere with attentive but not intrusive staff, keeping things relaxed but well run. Reasonably priced too especially if you're easy on the wine.
