I had long and stringy dyed blonde hair, which she promptly treated with purple shampoo before cutting off anything that wasn't healthy. Holly was knowledgeable, kind, friendly and efficient. Every friend I've sent to them has come back and said it's been the best haircut they've ever had! Serious magic. The head massage is amazing and I don't know what shampoo they use but it smells so good. They are also so on top of everything. They rarely run late or behind and are always focused on one person at a time. It's a really well run salon with great customer service. Also every product I've bought that they've recommended has become my favorite new beauty and hair go to! Also during COVID I have never felt so safe. We barely go out unless for essentials but they are taking so many precautions and actually implementing them and I felt so safe. I went 3x during the pandemic when we were out of lockdown and each time felt comfortable.

I have recently moved to a new part in the city so I was looking to find a new salon I could become…read morea regular at that was relatively close to where I live. I spent a long time googling and looking for a place that was high quality service and at a affordable price. I found Hair Holistic one day when I was walking along Bloor St and found that they were exactly what I was looking for. I visited the salon in mid-July of this year to get my first post-quarantine haircut. They were extremely careful and made sure to take the appropriate precautions when dealing with clients. When I walked in, my temperature was taken and there were only 2 other people in the salon. Each station was set up with adequate distance between them and the sinks had plexiglass dividers between them. Everyone inside the salon was wearing a mask for the entire time they were inside and the service was done completely with the mask on. The haircut I got was exactly what I needed - a cleanup of my split ends and something that grows out nicely. I love that all the product they use are natural. I will definitely be returning.

Gotta love WagJag etc when they give you a chance to try new salons for a pittance. I have to admit…read morethat I was a little apprehensive buying this one-there weren't any unfiltered Yelp reviews and that's my main way of researching anything. A blog post talking about how wonderful April is made me think it was worth a try though...and who can resist cut and colour for $39? First impressions for me come from how easy it is to ask questions or book appointments before I trudge in the door. They win on this because they answered my emails promptly and allowed me to book my appointment without picking up the phone. So preferable to having my boss give me evils while I organise my hair during working hours. And it also means I have the date and time in writing. It would not be unusual for me to have forgotten what time I picked by the time I hang up the phone. I was lucky enough to get a Saturday afternoon appointment just before Christmas and on the final day of my voucher. They left a message the day before to remind me and also let me know that there was parking available and to be careful on the roads because the forecast was bad. I thought that was so sweet! More brownie points. I arrived slightly late and looking like a drowned rat thanks to an ice storm. My stylist, Vesta, greeted me and took away my sopping wet coat. I was also given the opportunity to ditch my boots and put on slippers. So nice and cosy! The salon looks small from the street but there's also a downstairs which is where we went. Everything was spotless and the decor is modern and monochrome. I can't say enough positive things about Vesta. She was a dream. The time flew by because she was so sweet and such fun to chat to. None of the usual small talk about holidays! I didn't even reach for my book the whole time. She listened to what I wanted and made a real effort to work with me to achieve it-both in terms of colour and cut. I love the shade we chose and my new 'do. We went for a bit of side bang and she told me that I can come back to go shorter if I feel brave. For free! It's nice to not feel at all pressured. I get to see how well I cope with this first instead of having to jump straight in. Think she definitely got my personality! So yes. Recommend. Cosy, friendly salon with staff who listen, make you tea and want you to leave happy. Pretty perfect. P.S.: Free wifi Super easy to find: just north of Davenport on the west side of Avenue

Pretty disappointing experience during my most recent visit to Civello Uptown location. I expected…read moreto come in for a relaxing hair appointment and come out feeling great and instead I got stressed and so upset I left basically in tears. I first made a hair cut appointment with Kimi last Friday, who did a nice job with my cut. I liked how she did the layering. I also made a hair colour appointment on Tuesday with Laura. I wanted to do a dark purple tint and had a bit of balayage from my last hair colour. I came with a pic of my ideal colour and said I didn't need it to be vibrant..just a tint where I can see purple would be fine. I was aware if I wanted it more vibrant I would have to bleach and make another longer appointment. So we agreed to just put dye over my old balayage. However, this is when my experience turned sour. I arrived after commuting well over 1hr by uber to salon. Only to find out that their water is not working. They said they only found out a bit over 10 minutes before my appointment so they did not call me. I was not too happy but understood that things happen and they did offer to uber me to their Rosedale location or reschedule and comp my appointment. I still really wanted to get the hair dye though. So they just dyed and hair dried in uptown salon but washed my hair at the blo bar salon nearby. When I was getting my hair dried I discovered that my hair is much more red than purple. Horrified, I wanted to get it redone. It was more burgundy than purple with a lot more red tones to it. Laura failed to tell me that my hair had warm undertones already in it and that it would bring out more red in my hair. I was not prepared to see so much red. I rescheduled with Rachel to get a hair toner or gloss. She explained about the warm undertone and said if she added blue toner or gloss it might tone out the reds but she would not be sure how it would turn out. She was super nice about it but her uncertainty made me change my mind and not do it. She was sorry I was so disappointed about the colour and just recommended I wait till it fades and do a colour correction at cost. So now I have paid for a hair colour I dont want and need to spend more money to get it fixed. Like it is not a hideous colour but it is not want I wanted or paid for. So everytime I look in the mirror I get upset. Overall, I have never been so disappointed after a hair appointment. I wanted to feel nice and left feeling upset. There was also another person at reception who was not that friendly either. She had brown hair tied up in a bun and wore glasses. She kind of gave me some curt looks and responses. Even Laura was there and saw me but did not even say anything to me. Side note, a collegue of mine was suppose to see Laura for a hair cut but the client she had before had to get their hair fixed due to a mistake Laura made and my coworker was left waiting for 40 minutes after her appointment time. She ended up being passed over to a higher up staff member. Just very unimpressed. I do not recommend Laura. If you go to this location anyways, try Rachel or Kimi UPDATE - After calling the salon, I was offered a full refund, which was very appreciated. However, I don't think I will return anytime soon. I feel like they could have dealt with my situation better. Everytime I think of this location it now just brings back bad memories.

I booked an editorial blowout after calling ahead to speak with both the receptionist and a…read morestylist. As a Black woman with extensions, I was intentional about asking whether the salon could properly service my hair. I clearly described the texture of my hair and the fact that I wear extensions. This conversation was an opportunity for transparency--but rather than addressing any potential limitations, it seems the priority was securing the booking. According to the website, the editorial blowout includes a wash, blow dry, and set. I arrived on time for my 10:00 AM appointment, but we didn't begin until 10:15 AM. Since services are listed by time, starting 15 minutes late was concerning. Despite this, I was charged for the full editorial service--even though the stylist decided not to wash my hair, stating it would take too long to dry due to the extensions. This was her decision, made for the sake of time, and not something I requested or agreed to. Yet, a wash is clearly included in the service description, and I was still charged for it. When I pointed this out to the receptionist, I was told a note would be made for my next appointment--one I hadn't booked and likely will not be booking. As a new client, I expected some form of consultation. What I received was minimal and only happened because I prompted it. I explained that I wanted a full-volume, '90s-inspired blowout, and while the stylist acknowledged this, the execution did not reflect my request. The appointment consisted mostly of styling with a curling iron and blow dryer. In terms of skill, if I had booked a standard blowout or an extension-specific blowout, I may have had a better experience. Unfortunately, the result did not meet my expectations or reflect what was advertised. My dissatisfaction was not just about the final look--it was about the lack of care in delivering what I specifically asked for and the failure to follow through on what the service includes. A simple, honest conversation could have set expectations clearly. Lastly, and most importantly: If your team is not trained or experienced in working with textured hair, extensions, or styles that fall outside your regular clientele, then a client's appointment is not the time to learn or experiment. Transparency and preparation are a form of respect--and they go a long way in building trust.
