Needless to say, I learned my lesson with regards to handling my console, but I am very thankful to have found such a useful shop that I'm happy to recommend to game enthusiasts who want to keep their hardware working. No glitchy, pixelated, or blank screen whatsoever. I always give them a cleaning with 91% Isopropyl Alcohol before inserting for the first time. And found this one to be pretty clean. The QTips usually look like I've dipped them in ink afterwards. Not here though. Wonder if they clean them beforehand? Yes, I could have possibly saved a few bucks buying online, but for various reasons I wanted to support this business. Which has been around for quite some time. It took some commitment in time and effort to go pick up a movie. The experience of walking around the store to look at the titles, read the back covers, talk to store employees and even other customers about movies they liked. 30 years from now we'll be watching videos of how we used to actually go to grocery stores to buy food and reminiscing of the good old days, you wait and see. The store is neat, and they offer a selection of not only brand new movies (they get them pretty quickly, and the discs are always kept in perfect condition by the store, so no worries about getting scratched discs like often happens with RedBox or Netflix). They also often have multiple copies, so you can probably get a new release without worrying that everyone rented them out. Alex Video offers both DVD and Blu-Ray movies (sometimes the same movie in both formats). They have a good section of movies for kids, as well as older movies, not just new releases. They also offer movies for sale sometimes. They also have a small selection of games for rent, as well as popcorn and snacks for movie night! The first employee immediately looked at me, and with a pretty obvious attitude said, "We only buy games before 6:30." Okay... how exactly was I supposed to know that? I decided not to make a big deal out of it and figured I'd browse the store and maybe buy something instead. Another employee asked if I needed help, and I told him I was just browsing. A little later, I asked him about some of the games on the wall and whether they were used. He said yes. I then asked what the games typically cost, expecting a simple answer from someone who works there. Instead, I was told, "You can just go check the sheet on the side to see what the games are worth." There's classic porn from the 70s, 80s and 90s. There are Criterion discs. There are John Huston movies, Godard movies, Wim Wenders and David Lynch. Dario Argento horror movies. Sci-fi. Pre Sci-fi. Post Sci-fi. Brazilian. African. Silent films... I could go on and on. If you are looking for an obscure out of print classic film that's not on streaming, there's an 80% chance that you can find it here to rent. There is street parking nearby. The problem? I live in OC and this place is in Mount Washington/Montecito Heights. So if I move down there, I'll be renting some unheard of movies, that's for sure!
