That said, the job would have gone quicker if they had worked more than just a few hours each day. My problem was with the company itself. I hired them because of the generally good posted reviews. Most of the reviews mentioned that Mr. Klein himself was involved with doing and/or supervising the work being done. Not so in my case. The initial response from Yelp after I requested a quote I assume was from Mr. Klein. I was told he was unable to come out for the quote but he was sending someone named Luis, who did come out and work up a quote. He and Abel were the ones that actually did the work, with a third person at my house for just a couple of hours one day. At first Luis told me that Mr. Klein would come around a couple of times to check on things during the one week that they were here. Toward the end of the job I specifically asked about Mr. Klein since I had neither seen nor communicated with him after my quote request. When I asked Luis if my job had been subcontracted to him, he said that it had, and that Mr. Klein would in fact not be coming to our house at all. The fact is that I used this company based upon reviews of the work done for others in which Mr. Klein was usually directly involved. This lack of transparency is not OK. If Mr. Klein was not going to be involved in at least occasional on site supervision of the work, I should have been told that this job would be subcontracted out before I agreed to hire this company. Even if Luis and Abel work for this company on a regular basis, I feel that I should have been told up front that Mr. Klein was not going to be involved. It's just a business transparency thing from my perspective.

The city requires a lot of paperwork for sidewalk repair, and I wanted to find a contractor who could handle that for me. After I requested a quote, Ronnie called me to explain the process of working with the city, and I was convinced that this would go smoothly. Rose Concrete handled all of the paperwork electronically, copying me on every email to the city. As soon as we had Notice to Proceed, the crew was onsite, and they got the work done in one day (plus a couple of days for the concrete to dry). The new sidewalk looks great, and it's perfectly aligned with the surrounding sidewalk and parkway. My parkway is paved with bricks, and the crew did a great job of putting that back together. I hired Brothers Landscaping to install wood trim on the bottom of my deck, as well as install…read moreriver rocks. The company did an absolutely horrendous job. The wood trim was cut into a ton of pieces and honestly looked like a child did the work. The river rocks didn't even match my existing ones and they didn't even bother finishing up filling the ditch they were working in. The trim was supposed to be painted, and nobody even bothered painting it, although I paid for paint in the materials list. When sending photos of the finished work, everything seemed ok. These things were all noticed on further inspection & even the company agreed the job was terrible. Look closely at the photos. The deck was built by another company. I only hired them to put a piece of wood at the bottom of the deck, painted, and as a piece of trim. They promised that they would come back to fix things and I never heard back from them. The owner Abner never even bothered calling me and apologizing or showing up to fulfill his promise to make things right. This is one of many companies in San Diego that subcontract out jobs and are NOT licensed. They are NOT a professional company. They are a group of guys who get jobs and subcontract out their work. They have no sense of integrity in the way they communicate or do business. If you need anything done that's very small like gardening or mowing grass, I think they could possibly handle it. If it's any sort of major landscaping project, I can with 100% experience say you should NOT go with this company. If anyone has any questions of the horrendous job I was left with, please contact me and I will help in any way I can. I'm also going to attach detailed photos of the wood trim they were supposed to install and pictures of the job they did. Trust me, avoid this company like the plague.

What impressed me is that Dean and Robert took both and made them better, using their real knowledge of how concrete works. The control joints are placed right, they put in real drainage with actual drains and grading built throughout, and it looks clean and classy without being overdone. Flatwork around the entire house, driveway, front yard, backyard, both sides, fencing, gates. Did they get everything perfect on the first pass? Almost. What separates them is that when something was off, they owned it completely. No excuses, no pushback, just fixed. They paid attention to details that other contractors I quoted either missed entirely or only caught after I nudged them. Dean caught everything without me saying a word. Every day at the end of their shift they cleaned up and secured the site, even when it wasn't convenient. Robert ran a tight field operation and cared about every detail like his reputation depended on it. I have a young kid at home and that told me everything about who these guys are. I had my own engineer come out and review the work on-site. He looked around and said, unprompted, "You've got a great crew here." Engineers don't hand out compliments. That meant something. These guys come from commercial construction and brought that level of expertise to a residential job without going overkill. I actually spotted their truck at another client's property. Here's my honest take: if my mom needed this much work done and I couldn't be there to check in, I would still trust Dean to make sure she was taken care of. That's the highest thing I can say.
