I thoroughly enjoyed the cuisine at M last night! Everything tasted like the aromas and that's delicious. The chips and multitudes of salsas with the bean dip and guacamole Spot on, our table shared the chicken tacos, the special which was filet mignon, fish tacos, cerviche, horchata, and 3 other drinks, plaintains, and churro with avocado ice cream and Mexican chocolate ice cream. Can't wait to go back for the tortas they looked delicious No seriously I was so tired of not feeling fulfilled after a meal. You won't be dissatisfied or disappointed. Very bad customer service. Not a friendly people place. First off, we walk in aked if we could sit in the back, waitress looked at us as if we were crazy. Secondly, food was horrible chicken was rubbery bread tasted like old burnt oil off the Sandwich presser. Third off, accidently dropped the tiny salsa bowel on the floor and waitress gives me the evil eye mom look, like wait til we get home look!! Worst customer service!! Went here for the first time. We were a party of 3 and the manager (Heidi??)asked us to sit on the bar stool though there were tables empty. We asked for a table but she declined saying that they are for party of 6 and she can't allow us to sit there. I asked if there is any reservation and she said no. I said I can't sit on a bar stool and there is. I sense when you have tables available as well but she rudely said it's our policy. I asked if they don't give customer the first priority and she simply said that at their place it's employee first and if I have an issue with that then there is he front door!! With this behavior forget about my business and I will make sure that nobody else as well ever go there again!! read more

I've heard so many great things about this restaurant so I had to give it a try for myself. My first time there was a bitter sweet experience. I must say the food was great!! The different kinds of house-made salsas were phenomenal and added the perfect kick to the chips and salsa trio and to the brisket tacos. I must say best Mexican food I've had in Dearborn. However my experience was ruined by the staff and the waitress. I very kindly asked to switch my table due to the cold draft coming from the doors and the staff very very rudely refused in the beginning but lead me to another table with a harsh attitude. Five minutes into my meal the waitress was asking me about dessert!! Ten minutes after that she brought out the bill and asked me if I was going to pay cash or credit and waited at the edge of the table till I decided. It was pretty obvious they they wanted us out at that moment. I quickly paid and got up from my seat and left. Don't think I'd ever go back to such a horrible run restaurant with rude rude staff. I had to unfortunately update a previous post I made for this restaurant...M Cantina in Dearborn, MI deserves negative stars for being racist and having deplorable customer service. My mother and I went in for dinner and ordered 4 courses. After I paid the bill, while we were finishing our drinks, the owner/manager approached our table and loudly and sternly asked us to LEAVE! Her reason was that she had a reservation waiting. The table was not reserved when we were seated. Being the only black patrons in the compact restaurant, we were bedeviled that this was happening! Race aside, I've been to restaurants that were busier and more popular and never have I ever been told to leave because there was a reservation waiting. My experience, even having made reservations, is that reservations do not guarantee immediate seating. You wait until a table becomes available. I felt like we'd time traveled to the Jim Crow South and I was hurt that I subjected my mother to this type of embarrassment! Regardless of whether this saddening display of human decency is charged to M Cantina's heart or business acumen, no one should ever give this place any patronage. -- read more

I really wanted to like this place. I've visited 3x and each time the food took a long time to come out. This place feels more like a boutique taco bar (as in liquor) versus a restaurant to satisfy customers and their hunger... Cute but not practical. I love the chips and pico salsa which is what draws me even though there isn't enough salsa for the chips. The staff is a mix of newbies and annoyed, experienced staff. The final straw came when I ordered the steak fajita tacos without guacamole (because I hate guacamole) and they would not accommodate my request stating no subtractions or substitutions. I had ordered these tacos this way every time until now. While I understand that a chef crafts the menu with offerings they feel fits their flavor profile, I know which ingredients I can tolerate and guacamole is not one of them. It is irritating for an establishment to impose their perspective when not desired...cute but not practical and the chips ain't worth the hassle! read more

The food is pretty good. We tried a variety of things, including braised short rib tacos, chicken tacos, and chicken tinga empanda, and arepa. We also tried both the churros and cinco leches cake for dessert. The tacos were good. I've had authentic Mexican food when I visited there, and the tacos are on par with what I had while there. The desserts aren't that great. Authentic churros will have a filling, and these did not. The cinco leches was ok, but I've had better, and the mexicantown bakery has the tres leches cake, and it's much better. The reason for the two stars, was due to service and atmosphere. The service is TERRIBLE. Very slow, and the staff seemed unorganized and overwhelmed. Also, the atmosphere, we were literally freezing. I'm not sure if it's just a poorly insulted building, or bad air circulation, but 90% of the people in the restaurant still had their jackets on cause it was that cold. I would probably place a carry out order if I considered this place in the future, but I doubt I'll ever dine in again. read more

Honestly one of the worst experiences I have ever had at a restaurant. My sister had dined here before and recommended that we have lunch here. So we ended up stopping in, and from the moment I walked in, I got the vibe that the manager?/co-manager? didn't like me. She greeted my sister, brought over water, and had a sub conversation with my sister in regards to straws and my sister going to college. I took this time to look over the menu not fully paying attention to their conversation. Eventually my sister introduced me and I looked up at whoever this person was, and saw them with their neck craned towards me. After the awkward greeting, she took my sister's order and then took mine. I asked about a sauce that came on the $18 tacos I ordered. She explained what it was and I asked if I could have it on the side. She told me that they do not do sides, substitutions or additions, and the only way I could change the order was if I had an allergy they would leave the sauce off. She then suggested light sauce and I agreed. My sister also order a side of corn on the cob with lime and seasoning which was $3 or $4 dollars. This manager? came back to the table with like 17 sauces and explained that one side was mild and the other spicy/hot. She also said one had grasshoppers in it, then expressed that it literally had grasshoppers in it. Though I personally would not want to eat something like that, I was thankful that she said something to which my sister told me when she walked away that when she tried that sauce the first time no one told her there were bugs in it. Then came the corn, out to the table first, and I tried a bite. It was ok but overpriced for what it was. Eventually our surf and turf tacos arrived. First, they were small. Overpriced for the amount of food you got. Second, which is actually why I am writing this review, the tacos had pico de gallo on them - which is fine. On average pico de gallo has tomatoes, onions, and jalapenos or parsley. I know this, I have eaten enough of it in my life to know. Personally I am not a fan of raw diced tomatoes. Its a personal dislike of mine, but one that I normally don't trouble restaurants with. So as I am eating my tacos, I am pushing out the tomatoes with my fork and chowing down. By the time the manager? or whatever this person was came back around to ask my sister if we needed anything else or if we wanted the bill, she must have looked down at my plate and saw me pulling tomatoes out of my second taco. I heard her ask if everything was ok, and I looked up and just simply said, "yes I just don't like tomatoes". She got p-ssed, and told me "well I guess you're kinda s-o-l in a Mexican Restaurant" meaning I was sh-t out of luck not liking tomatoes that MIND YOU I DID NOT REQUEST OFF OF MY $18 DOLLAR TACOS because I was told they do not alter food unless it is for an allergy, and MIND YOU, I DID NOT COMPLAIN ABOUT. I felt like the entire time she wasn't happy with my presence for whatever reason, and I got the vibe she just didn't want me there. My sister said that she saw the manager person speaking with the waitress that actually brought out the food, and sensed it was about the tomatoes on my wooden board of a plate. After paying, she told my sister good bye (again, I just didn't exist) and we left. My sister apologized to me, said she couldn't believe what had transpired and was embarrassed by the whole thing. She could not believe how rude this person was, and she told me that based off of how I was treated, she would not frequent the restaurant in future. I have no idea why this person treated me this way. I did not complain, I asked one question, and I felt like I was a lesser human. I would never recommend this place to anyone, and while I found the food was o-k, it was definitely not worth the price per portion, or the absolute lack of respect, decorum, and courtesy I experienced. If I could leave no stars I would. It is a real shame because again, the food was not terrible. I would have enjoyed coming here had I been treated with respect. read more

I went to try M Cantina with my family. We sat down and the waitress came to greet us and give us an overview of the menu. Thereafter, my family had a chance to review the menu and each person selected their desired food. Let me add, my daughter is a very picky eater. So she selected the taco she wanted and asked if they could skip few of the toppings that were listed on the menu (let me emphasis again, remove toppings NOT adding but remove). The waitress came back and while taking our order, she said that they are not allowed to change how their food is prepared. I've asked her to go back and ask, she did and they were adamant about not removing any of the toppings which is totally astonishing to me. I travel a lot and I have been traveling for business for the past 22 years. I have NEVER, EVER, been to a restaurant that did not accommodate changes to a dish. Hence, I was totally disappointed and left the restaurant immediately. I don't recommend this place. read more

I was really disappointed and had such high hopes. We got the cecina tacos, ceviche, elote, and the salsa trio. The cecina tacos were not very flavorful, essentially a double layer of small soft corn tortilla with some beef and a dash crema on top...nothing else, and the lack of any other fillings did not leave me impressed at 9 bucks for three of them. Next is the 12$ 4 oz takeout container of ceviche...which was mostly liquid. The flavor was good, but again, it had maybe 3-4 chunks of shrimp that were sliced into very thin strips, some texturally awkward lima beans? and mango and cucumber, floating in 50% liquid. Definitely not worth 12 dollars for the lack of actual seafood, overabundance of liquid, despite the flavor being good. The elote. UGH. I am a white person and my elote is better, and that is SO SAD. We chose grilled and the corn kernels were very dehydrated and soggy, had a very thin layer of cojita, ZERO spice, and pretty much no flavor....for like 4 bucks a pop. The salsa trio was a large takeout box of chips, and three TINY dressing sized cups of salsa, guac, and some weird bean/cojita dip? that was really tasty. Actually, all of the dips were tasty, but there was literally enough for maybe 5 chips per container, and the salsa container was mostly liquid.... for 7 dollars. I am really unimpressed by the lack of spice and flavor in addition to tiny portion sizes, high prices, and lackluster toppings. I wanted to like this place SO MUCH. we live right down the street and I am dying for a great latino spot. I think I will keep going to southwest Detroit for actual authentic street food, because this stuff falls flat. A meal for two ran us 53$ and left one of us still pretty hungry. It is sad to say that as a white person, my cooking of these things is much better and higher quality than someone who is actually latino. I am not sure if the portion sizes are so small because we got takeout, or if they are the standard. My husband and I went to try out this new place based on reviews. The owners have done a wonderful job on remodeling the building. If you are coming with a group of four or more you will be hard pressed for seating. The prices are very high end for this area. We ordered an order of chips for which they charge $7.50. Three very small dips accompanied the chips which were very average. I had an order of the chicken tacos my husband the brisket. Three small tacos no sides. $9.00 and $15.00 each entrée. We had a side of corn which was $4.00 and two special lemonade drinks that were $7.00 each. Total bill was almost $53.00 not including tip. First of all not having a liquor license will hurt the business especially when people like to order a Margarita with their dinner. The portions too small and I am not a big eater but for the price they should have included sides of some sort. The chips should be put out to snack on as do other Mexican Restaurants. I do not think we will return. It is a shame very close to where we live and East Dearborn needs new venues in the area., Staff very friendly and helpful but the demographics will not support this type of food and prices. read more

A friend and I came here around lunch time yesterday and the it was a full house. Once we got seated it took a good 15 mins for the waitress to come up to us and ask us if we would like any water, once she did come we quickly placed the order having a feeling the food was going to take a while. We ordered two tacos, some deep fried potatoes that looked amazing off of pictures that I have seen a side of rice and beans and a side of guac. I got my taco and my friend still never got hers. The waitress brought over something which looked like it ended up being deep fried plantains. At first glance I thought they were the potatoes but after asking her about it it seemed she messed up the order and went back to tell the chef to send out an order of the potatoes. That was fine but yet here I am eating my tacos and my friend still never got her order. The owner which was very nice explained that the waitress had accidentally gave her order to a different table. After an hour finally my friend got her tacos, but we never received the side of rice and beans or the deep friend potatoes which I was most excited about. Once the waitress came back I asked her about the potatoes she apologized and asked if I wanted them to go so I asked her if they were ready (a hour after placing the order) and she said no not yet. The owners were extremely friendly but the waitstaff needs serious training. I would probably only come back if I was to place a carry out. read more
