This is the spot…read more This is the spot for a huge platter of delicious Colombian food, perhaps before you go dance it off at the nearby Knockdown Center. I'm not going to pretend that I am the best person to determine what an authentic Colombian experience is (never had the pleasure of visiting Colombia), but if this isn't it, I can't imagine what they're missing. The staff speaks to you in Spanish exclusively, which made me glad one of my boys is Honduran. The TVs all over the place are playing what appear to be Colombian music videos that were made in the 80s featuring old men and attractive young women. They've got buckets of Colombian beer and frosted mugs so cold that the beer turned to slush around the sides. They've got a platter called the Bandeja la Berraca that consists of rice, beans, steak, plantains, eggs, avocado salad, little corn cakes, blood sausage, other sausage (amazing), and a giant side of chicharron. Eat and drink to you're bursting, while adorable Colombian kids run around the place. And rejoice that you live in NYC, where these things can be had.

Food Karaage- Juicy and flavorful and perfectly crispy. Tuna Tempura- not crispy as all.Flavor was good though. Yuzu Lamb chops- 3 basic but perfectly cooked chops.i did not taste any yuzu or miso as described. The soy sauce probably overpowered the flavors. The edamame mash potatoes served on the side were amazing, creamy with an umami flavor. Saki Miso Bronzino- Well cooked and mild miso flavor. Fried rice-Good flavor and was able to get it with a side of chicken. Chipotle Teriyaki chicken- Well cooked and flavorful. Did not get the chipotle flavors. Drinks Sakura-Perfect balance of fruity and floral, refreshing for the summer. Lit-chee sangria- Good but barely any lychee flavor. No seasonal fruit was served with it, as mentioned on the menu. Food is pricey for the portion size. Not an extensive menu.

I genuinely enjoy discovering restaurants and rooftops worth returning to, and I make a point of visiting more than once before forming a lasting opinion or recommending a place to others. My first experience at Lighthouse Rooftop was excellent. The views were stunning, the restaurant was bustling both indoors and outdoors, and the service was attentive despite the crowd. I left impressed and considered it somewhere I would gladly revisit, recommend to friends, and potentially consider for corporate gatherings. Unfortunately, my second visit was quite the opposite and, frankly, one of the most disappointing dining experiences I've had in a while. We stopped by spontaneously on Halloween night, a Saturday, and were surprised to find the restaurant barely one-third full. Interestingly, the online reservation system indicated that reservations were required with a $10 deposit, but we decided to take our chances and were seated at a table next to the bar. From the outset, the service was disorganized. We were given a small bites menu but no drink menu. After waiting approximately 20 minutes, I eventually had to approach the bar myself to request one. A female staff member wearing a red corset eventually brought it over. I immediately told her we were ready to order, only for her to look directly at me and walk away. She never returned to take our order or check on us. Her only subsequent interaction with our table was toward the end of the evening, when she casually asked if we needed anything. Thankfully, another server, Sal, eventually stepped in. Sal apologized for the delay after we explained that we were hungry and ready to order. He offered complimentary shots as a gesture of goodwill, which sounded reasonable. However, they never arrived. I reminded him, and he promised to bring them shortly, yet once again disappeared without following through. We even had to get someone's attention to request something as basic as water. More concerning was the general demeanor of the serving staff. Several interactions felt unusually disjointed, distracted, and incoherent. Sal's conduct in particular raised questions about whether he was in an appropriate condition to be serving guests. I cannot speak to what was happening behind the scenes, but the overall impression was deeply unprofessional. The final disappointment involved my cousin's birthday dessert. We had ordered a chocolate lava cake and, after an excessive wait, had to flag Sal down to ask about it. His response was essentially, "Oh, you want it now?" Yes, after waiting that long, we certainly did. Eventually, someone from our group approached him to say we would rather close out. Suddenly, the cake was ready. We explicitly asked him to cancel it, and he agreed to remove it from the bill. Despite that, he brought it to our table anyway, and the dessert subsequently appeared on our bill again. Having to dispute a charge for something we had specifically asked to cancel was an especially frustrating way to end the evening. What makes this experience particularly disappointing is that I know Lighthouse Rooftop is capable of much better. I've experienced it firsthand. The views and atmosphere initially made me excited to return, but a beautiful setting can only carry an establishment so far. Hospitality, attentiveness, and professionalism are what ultimately earn customer loyalty. I also want to emphasize that repeat customers and word-of-mouth recommendations carry real value. I regularly recommend restaurants and venues within my personal network, and I also consider establishments for professional gatherings and corporate events. My first visit genuinely put Lighthouse Rooftop on that list. After this experience, I would hesitate to recommend it, let alone bring professional groups here. It's unfortunate because this was an opportunity to turn an impressed first-time guest into a loyal returning customer and a source of future business. Instead, we left questioning the establishment's service standards and overall management. I hope management takes this feedback seriously, particularly regarding staff conduct, service consistency, and the handling of guest complaints. Finding a restaurant this quiet on a Saturday night is surprising enough; delivering an experience like this only makes it harder to understand how an establishment expects to retain customers and generate repeat business. I genuinely would like to see Lighthouse Rooftop succeed, which is precisely why I'm taking the time to write this. However, based on this visit, I cannot confidently recommend it or consider bringing future professional gatherings here. A stunning view gets people through the door once. Exceptional hospitality is what brings them back.
