First the 'bad' news; this is in a manky part of Sheffield, but I've never had any problems round…read morethe Mangla. Now the Excellent news: the food is fantastic, the staff are really friendly and it's a bring-your-own bottle place (there're a couple of off-licenses across the road) so the bill is much less than what you'd expect. Honestly, you can pay three to four times the bill elsewhere in town for food that's not as good. I can recommend the veggie vindaloo, tarka dhall, Bombay aloo, channa massala etc. etc. Plus, they serve complimentary poppadoms and pickles and table water: who else does that these days? Recent example: dinner at the Mangla for 13: bill £99. They don't accept cards so check down the back of your sofa for loose change and GO!

I ordered a Chicken Tikka Balti which is one of my favorite indian dishes (if it's done right). It was the most expensive indian dish that I have ever bought with 1 naan bread it cost £9.60, they also gave me a small starter which was a bag of salad and a sauce quite nice as well I had it after my balti. The Balti had plenty of meat in and had a rich thick spicey sauce, it was the hottest balti's that I have tried among restaurants and take-aways, I thought it was perfect at first but began to struggle towards the end because of the spices. I very much enjoyed the balti but the price is too steep unfortunatly, I may go back to Mangla and try a cheaper dish to see what it's like. The food is worth 5/5 but I have knocked off 1 star becauase of the cost.

I came to eat here last week with my boyfriend and his family. I was especially looking forward to…read morecoming here as it had won Restaurant of the Year 2011 by Eat Sheffield! The drive to the restaurant was lovely and scenic, going down dark and winding country roads until suddenly we drive around a corner and The Devonshire Arms appeared! We'd got there a little early and we sat down by the bar for some drinks. The menu was displayed on a chalkboard by the seating area and it all looked yummy! The dining area was quite small but very nice and cosy. The kitchen was open and you could see the chefs chopping and cooking away which I quite liked. I chose the rabbit and pheasant terrine with grape chutney as my starter; it came with onion bread and the slice of terrine was huge! I really wanted to finish it, but I couldn't as there was no way I'd be have enough room for my main! For the main, I had venison steak served with new potatoes (usually served with mash which I couldn't have as it had milk/cream in it) and braised red cabbage. The steak was pink and cooked to perfection and the red cabbage was sweet but with a little tart edge to it. I didn't have a dessert but the rest of the party did - my boyfriend had a deconstructed banana cheesecake and his sister had a brownie (I overheard her saying it was the best brownie she'd ever tasted!). All of the staff were really nice, especially the lady who served us that night, she was really lovely and very attentive. The Devonshire Arms fully deserves it's awards and hope it gets more in the future. If you're ever around the Sheffield area and want to venture out of the city centre for some food make sure you come here. I couldn't have asked for a more perfect meal.

It seems the prices have gone up and up, and the quality has gone down and down. The menu has been reduced since my last visit, with gluten-free options now minimal, one of my favourite dishes, Huevos Rotos, is no longer on the menu, and the tapas paella which used to be fantastic and innovative has not only declined in portion but now seems to taste bland and microwaved. I did notice the promotional offers on the tapas dishes did have some exclusions, and the offer became more confusing than anything else. I ended up ordering the chorizo because it would have worked out cheaper, only to be told that the "3 tapas" offer did not include the paella tapas. I decided to not order this, but my server brought and charged it for me anyway. I found the chorizo to be hard and again, it also lacked flavour. The seating and vibes of this place are reasonable, as it is within a huge Food area of a shopping centre, they are restricted. 2* - Probably only worth coming in for the sangria now, the authenticity is gone, serving bland and microwaved food, with them now charging more than ever before.

We were left stood at the entrance for a good while before someone came over. We were shown to a table and handed a menu - no explanation of any offers that were going on, but as it happens we'd already seen a poster for 5 tapas for £12 outside anyway, it put my 2-4-1 tapas voucher I had ready on my iPhone to shame! We were given adequate time to decide what we wanted, then our order for food and drink was taken at the same time. Drinks arrived swiftly and the food followed some five minutes later. Everything was cooked beautifully, not overdone like I've had before, and five tapas between the two of us was more than enough to fill us up. The bill came to a very respectable £16. A bargain lunch, some would say! The service could be a bit quicker in regards to showing people to tables and the manner could be a bit less brusque. Also I'd prefer it if I'd been told about the offers - had we not seen a poster outside, we'd have gone for the 2-4-1 offer I'd had ready anyway - every other La Tasca I've been to has always said what offers they have available. Still, I'd go back. It was a pleasant environment (screaming child aside) and the food was delicious!

Had lunch here today and both the food and the service was supberb!…read more We had the lunch special - ongoing until 5PM - which was 5 tapas selections for two people for £10. We started off with bread and olives. The olives were proper Spanish olives (not that tinned rubbish that some places give you) and the bread with olive oil and balsamic vinegar was plentiful. The chicken croquettes left something to be desired. The fried white fish was crispy, light, and not greasy at all. The meatballs were plentiful and tasty. The vegetarian paella was the best I have ever had! The cheesy aubergines in red sauce was delicious. There were many vegetarian options. The service was great and friendly, our waitress was more than helpful. The food came out reasonably quick as well. Both the serving plates and the food was hot (very important). The staff tips are not shared - the waitress did share hers with the cook staff, which I thought was fair. All in all a great experience! I would definetly recommend this place, and intend to visiting again.
