I've been going here for several years and Dr. Lyudvig is the worst dentist I've ever had. He told me almost all of my teeth needed work and probably gave me unnecessary treatment. He is never gentle and told me to "man up" when injecting with numbing agent. He doesn't tell you what he's doing. One time he lost a drill bit in my throat and didn't apologize. His techniques are from the last century and are outdated. I doubt he has the ability to feel empathy for his patients. read more

Natsha the front desk lady does not know anything customer service and the doctor does not know what he is doing. I came into the office at 9am for an emergency X-ray because of my wisdom pain tooth because it's was affecting my throat at one point and Natsha very rudely and with the worst attitude said "If we take you in you are going to ruin the whole schedule"'then proceed onto rolling her eyes. I asked if I can speak to the doctor she said yes but in 10 minutes I said you can put me on hold. Then 15 minutes go by there is no communication. I decided to hang up and call again. She answered and she said "The doctor is not allowed to speak to the patient over the phone" I was confused because she said yes and now she lied and said no. While I was speaking to her she hung up the phone on me. I called back and there was no answer. After work I decided to go back in person to speak to the doctor. This part will shock you. The doctor's attitude was unprofessional and scary. While waiting to speak to the doctor. Natasha the receptionist decided to talk about me with a nurse. I got up and spoke to her. I told her that she needs to learn on how to treat a patient. I work in a customer service company and I have never in life treated a customer let alone a patient like this! The doctor comes out and I tell him everything from the start. Natsha goes on and lied about everything I wasn't shocked. The doctor went on and said "I am booked and busy do you want me to kill myself to squeeze you in" after that comment I was shocked and disappointed. The nurse was sweet and understanding she tried to reason with me. But Natsha the receptionist and the doctor were insanely rude, unprofessional, and used terms that were overly aggressive. After the heated conversation the doctor instructed the nurse to perform an X-ray on me. Seconds after Natsha said "Now she's getting it her way". I laughed in shock. First time patient. They're very friendly, Paulina, the receptionist has been very patient with me, since I keep calling her about a tooth ache I'm trying to take care of, while figuring out my work schedule. The waiting area is a bit small and cramped, and I believe they're speaking russian, amongst themselves, which I don't mind, I speak spanish at work with my coworkers, so really not a problem. The equipment seems a bit outdated, and this is my first time at a dentist office, where I'm not offered safety glasses. The dental assistant was very nice, and the doctor himself was awesome, especially since I was being such a baby and telling everyone about how scared I was. When he prepped me for the filling I needed, the sedative didn't work as well the first time, I could still feel pain, so he had to inject me again. At one point I felt like I was going to slide off the chair, when he kept lowering it to be able to see my top left teeth. Again, surprised at no safety glasses, so I tried to keep my eyes closed. Then when he had to inject me the second time, we had to wait 5 minutes or so to take affect, he raised the chair back up, but I almost hit my head on the light above me and I had to quickly move it out of the way! They took x-rays of the side where I said I had pain, and the dental assistant and doctor both said they didn't see anything wrong. I insisted I was in pain, and so he took a look. He found a tooth where the filling had broken off, and he even found food stuck inside the hole, when he touched more I cried out in pain, so he immediately prepped me for the filling. Problem is, now that the numbness has worn off from that particular tooth, the original tooth ache (probably two teeth over from the one just filled) came back. I called Paulina again, to let her know that the original tooth ache I had been calling about was back, she was very understanding in letting me know she'd call me if there were any cancellations, and said she'd have the doctor look at the x-rays again. I'm sure he won't see anything, like the first time, but I know the pain is there, and it's very severe :( All in all, very friendly staff, Dr. Vaniyants is very personable and friendly. I have to go back for the tooth ache that is still persistent, and I also have a cleaning scheduled. I don't know how long the actual tooth filling lasts, but if felt quick (maybe rushed since I was overlapping into their scheduled lunch hour) not that I want the experience to last longer or anything, but it felt a little too quick, so I will have to update my review and rating when I can, after my next visit. read more

I don't usually review businesses, but I was so impressed by this dentist that I felt like I needed to. Im a new patient with Dr. Vaniyants and just can't tell you enough how pleased I was with my appointment. Iv had a lot of dental work in the past and been through different dentist due to moving and change of insurance to understand good and bad dentistry. This is one of the first Dentist that I felt was very honest and to the point on what I needed to get done without trying to oversell me or do work that was unnecessary. He was very clear on what needed to be done, cost, and the priority of every single procedures. Everyone in the office was very professional, friendly and patient of any questions I had. Dr. Vaniyants is a true craftsman of his art, He wants to protect the integrity of your teeth as well as give you a beautiful smile and healthy teeth that will last a long time. I've been going to Dr. Vaniyants for a few years, he used to be gentle and nice until the last couple times I brought my husband with me for the first time. It was a COMPLETELY different experience when I brought my husband, he was extremely rough on both of our teeth cleanings, my husband even remarked at how rough he was on cleaning the teeth, it was alarmingly painful and he warned me there was something fishy about the lack of gentleness. I ignored my husband's warnings and went in for my first scheduled cavity filling, everything went okay pain wise, he was gentle enough, but I came home with strep throat which took me 2 weeks to recover from. 3 weeks after that appointment I went back for my 2nd cavity filling and I HAVE STREP THROAT ALL OVER AGAIN NOW. A completely new set of strep throat. Nobody I know has strep throat and I work from home. I really don't go anywhere other than dr appointments, I know this DR. gave me strep TWICE. I doubt this dr cleans the tubes connected to the attachments or the light which he touches repeatedly overhead between cleanings. The 2nd cavity filling he injected my gum 8 times very fast without waiting for the topical numbing agent to numb my mouth- and I passed out. I literally passed out from the pain and I asked him to slow down injecting me and it scared me how he wasn't listening to my requests- so my body checked out. When I came to he was slapping my face trying to wake me up with ammonia packets. He then continued trying to fill my cavities but my entire jaw was numb including my tongue and throat so I had no control over my mouth movements and couldn't feel my tongue to close my throat so I was coughing and drowning the entire time. He overused the needle, numbed me too much, and didn't listen to my requests for pain. It was alarmingly rough. Like I said, he used to be great to me, then the second he saw my 6'5 African husband (I'm white too), I have been getting rough treatment, got strep throat, and will not be seeing him again. I'm disappointed and I feel his rough treatment may have been a passive aggressively racist. We both have never received such rough treatment from a dentist before. Maybe I'm wrong but it was rough and I got strep throat TWICE from him. Also he injected me twice as many times on the last appt I was basically drowning and convulsing the entire time because my tongue and throat were numb. I was scared and felt violated. He realized he made a mistake and still pushed through it, he seemed embarrassed at the end of the appt. read more

I took my 5 year old daughter in because her adult teeth were coming in but her baby teeth were not budging. The dentist told me that she would need 2 baby teeth pulled. He explained it to her in a way that a child could understand and within seconds, they were out! She never cried or even flinched. She still believes that there was no needle used because she never saw it. I would recommend Dr. Lyudvig to anyone and especially to children. I had an emergency and needed to get my wisdoms pulled out, I went to a previous dr to get them pulled out, they said it would cost extra because of the extra work to get them out, they were pretty jammed. Dr. Lyudvig said the previous dr I was their wasn't worth it and he would charge me half the price, he also mentioned if he wasn't able to do it in less then a minute it would be free, which I was hoping for. I just got my bottom two wisdom teeth pulled out for the first time and although I was scared to death, I did have a really good experience. Dr. Lyudvig is really funny and tries to keep your mind off the surgery. He took both teeth out really quick! I am writing this review from my husband's account. I really like Dr. Lyudvig, he makes me feel at ease and has this warm air about him that is very comforting. I was never afraid of dentists until one just prior to Dr. Lyudvig, whom horrified me with how painful and flat out stingy she was with the anesthesia. Suffice to say, I came to Dr. Lyudvig's office traumatized and very scared for any tool to touch my teeth or gums. He has always been reassuring and tells me not to be afraid, and that if I feel any pain at all, he will gladly give me more anesthesia, no problem. I can tell he genuinely does not want me to feel pain or fear, unlike my prior dentist from hell, who always acted annoyed and tried to give me as little as possible. He has taken out all four of my wisdom teeth, on three different visits, per my own request. My last visit, at eight months pregnant and at my own insistence to please remove both the top and bottom left (I just couldn't wait until after delivery, too bothersome), he and his staff really took care of me. After they were taken out, I was feeling loopy and having hot flashes and his assistant stayed with me the whole time, spraying water on me and fanning me. She kept checking my pulse and also checked my blood pressure, which I appreciated and made me feel really taken care of. My wisdom teeth haven't been the easiest to take out, especially the bottom ones but I'm glad he was very accommodating and listened to my concerns. He has a very lighthearted sense of humor and expressed how glad he is all four of my wisdom teeth are out, because he wouldn't want to pull them out anymore, as they gave him such a hard time. They were crazily hooked and shaped but as I said, he was as gentle and reassuring as possible. Clean office, quiet, they do speak Russian (My best guest, Not a linguist) but I never get the feeling they are bad mouthing me or anyone, as one can often feel when a foreign tongue is spoken in a workplace. I recommend him, if you're looking for a good dentist who is attentive and sensitive to a patient's needs. His sense of humor is a bonus :) read more

Let me start with what I was recommended by my previous dentist. I had a complicated tooth which needed a root canal and they referred me to a root canal specialist who wanted to charge me $1500 JUST for the root canal. I was thinking about going to Mexico but luckily I came across Dr.Ludvig. After reading all these reviews I wanted to stop by for a consultation. He took an X-ray of my tooth and was able to do my root canal same day. I paid $750 which is half of what the "specialist" charges and I'm so happy with the his work. The prices are reasonable, no pain, and the doctor and staff made me feel like I'm part of a new family. I would recommend Dr.Ludvig to everyone. He is very funny and makes you comfortable. What can I say about this Dentist. I LOVED IT!!!!! Took my daughter here for the 1st time, she 15 yrs.old. I had been told that she needed her wisdom teeth out right away by SmileCare in La Mesa next to 24hr Fitness (Grossmont Mall area). Well he told me she can wait, she is too young and there was no urgency with her wisdom teeth coming out. This Gentleman was very nice,funny and very professional. My daughter luckily didn't have any cavities, but she did have to get one replaced that SmileCare gave her. It fell out! Geeze! I got both top wisdom teeth extracted by Dr. Vaniyants. What an amazing experience! I was terrified to get them pulled and was putting it off until I had an infection in one. Dr. Lyudvig joked with me and told me that he could pull out my tooth in less than 2 minutes; and that if it took longer, I didn't have to pay for the visit. To my surprise, he was right! I cannot say enough good things about Dr. Lyudvig and his office staff! I accompanied my 18-year-old brother to get his wisdom teeth out. We walked in and the office was clean and the staff was very welcoming. Once we were in the back, the doctor was extremely attentive and explained everything we needed to know about the procedure and after-care. He told my brother several times that he had great teeth, made a few jokes that had us both laughing and increased our ability to relax, and the doc even allowed me to stay in the room during the procedure. It was the quickest wisdom tooth removal I've ever heard of! He averaged less than 9 minutes a tooth (whereas my procedure at an oral surgeon took upwards of two hours)!!! He hummed a soft tune as he went and lightheartedly chatted about how quick he was finishing the job. I appreciated him moving quickly because wisdom teeth removal under local anesthesia is not the most fun. There was NOT one moment where I was worried. My brother was in good hands and I would recommend this office to anyone and everyone! I had to pull my wisdom tooth and unfortunately my regular dentist doesn't do that and he Refered me to orthodontist in Carmel Mountain area, near my home . At this point of time I have used up my dental insurance coverage (limit $2500) for this year . Bummer:( I called orthodontist that I was refereed to get an idea of what it would cost me to have my wisdom tooth pooled , they gave me a quote of $800!!! For one tooth !!! I remembered that my friend recently got her wisdom teeth removed and called her right away . She went to Dr.Ludvid as she lives in La Mesa and was happy with her experience. I used Dr. Ludvig about 8 yrs ago was happy with him as well . Called his office and friendly receptionist was kind enough to give me an idea from price range for removal of one wisdom tooth , the price was almost 1/3 of what I was quoted at another dentist . I was a relived and booked an apt for Friday . I honestly was terrified snd told that to Dr.Ludvig , he was very professional and friendly, most importantly her tricked me by telling me that he was just checking to see how numbing was progressing and pulled my tooth without me even knowing !!! I can't tell you how relived and happy I am . His nurse by the way is the save nurse he had last time I was in his office 8 yrs ago !! She was as amazing and gentle as I could ably wish for . Awesome dentist and so good with kids. My daughter (10) came in to have tooth extractions that were ordered by her orthodontist. I could not believe how fast he took SIX teeth out - 2 baby and 4 adult. His bedside manner was so good with my daughter - made her feel comfortable and talked to her and joked with her thru the whole procedure - which didn't take more than 10 minutes once he had numbed her up. She had no swelling - came home and rested and was up playing with her sister like nothing had happened. Office staff is very friendly.
