I want to give Dr.Derakshan more than five stars but I can't. I came to him because my orthodontist had left the wire from my braces way too long and was stabbing me in the gums. I chose this dentist because he was close to my home and on my Delta dental HMO Plan. He and his receptionist Rowena were very very nice. However, he was much rougher than other dentists I have gone to. The plastic thing he used in my mouth to do the xrays was very sharp and painful, and the cleaning he did was kind of painful afterwards. I have not had this experience before at other dentists' offices. I was also a little surprised that he has no dental assistant or hygienist at this office and that the dentist does all the work, including cleanings. He found 5 cavities (2 old ones that he said needed to be replaced) and 3 new ones at a cost of $680.00! This seemed odd as I am very diligent about taking care of my teeth and have never had any problems before, nor was I experiencing any pain. I got copies of the x-rays and took their written treatment plan to another dentist for a second opinion. After an oral exam, and review of the records from Dr Derekshan's office, he said I needed NONE of the work that Dr. Derakshan has suggested! Also, he said that had I needed the work, the fees on the treatment plan were inflated, despite the fact they were supposed to be lower because of Delta Dental co-pays. I really hate to write negative reviews about people, but I don't want anyone else to have unnecessary expensive dental work. read more

My kid, 20 yo, has a high tolerance for pain, but this dude kind of broke him...wow. Went in with broken filling, came out with him saying there is nothing wrong with that tooth, but 3 others need filled, and this was after HE broke off part of another molar. This dentist does the cleaning and exam, no hygienist to aid, or to listen for that matter. Winces and indications of pain were met with a chuckle from the dentist. The receptionist is a saint to have to work with this guy. Aetna sent us here, I have given them an earful about our unacceptable experience. No returning. Definitely not recommending. Potential patients BEWARE!!!!! I cannot recommend this dentist because he is overly rough, rude and had serious communication issues!!! I had to repeat myself to this man three or four times nearly every time he asked a question because he has such a hard time understanding the English language. In several cases, he had to call in his assistant in to interpret even the most basic answers. At one point, he prescribed a medication to me and told me to continue use for three weeks. It turns out it was only supposed to be three days! As a result, my teeth are now stained. I cannot imagine why anyone would ever want to use this dentist! I would rather whack my tooth out of my own head with an ice skate and a rock a'la Tom Hanks in "Castaway" than let this clown near me again!!! read more

We've had great experiences during the 2 years we have been with Dr. Derekshan. He is very informative, thorough, and good at what he does. He is also great with kids. My kids, ages 4-14, really enjoy having him as a dentist. He eased the worries of my 4 year old twins during their first visit and answered all their questions and concerns is a child friendly and patient way. read more

This is by far the worst dentist that I have ever been to in my life. I had such a bad experience at this office that I joined Yelp in order to write this review. First, I had to wait close to an hour after my appointment start time because the dentist was behind. After I finally got into the chair, I was surprised to see that the office did not even have a hygienist! The dentist, who never introduced himself, did the x-rays himself. He stuck these large rubber objects in my mouth which were extremely painful. They pinched my mouth and he was pretty rude during the process. After taking about 20 x-rays, my eyes were heavily watering due to the pain. After the x-rays, he called the receptionist to the back of the office and whispered with her for about 20 minutes. It was extremely awkward since the office did not have walls, just a cubicle like area for the patient. Next, he cleaned my teeth. He was extremely rough and short with the cleaning. Water and fluoride kept spraying all over my face so that I felt like I took a shower. He also didn't really use the tube that sucks your saliva and residue, so it was really uncomfortable. After the cleaning, he explained to me that I had one cavity and some abrasions. He said that the abrasions were very serious and needed to be fixed. When I talked to the receptionist, she said that it would cost about $700 out of pocket to fix the problems with my teeth! Now, I have good dental insurance so this seemed to be a ridiculous about of money to pay for routine dental problems. When I started asking questions, the receptionist said the cavity filling would cost $200 and the abrasions were completely cosmetic so they were not covered by my insurance. I felt completely misled by this dentist as he said the abrasions were a serious medical problem. I definitely think he was trying to up-sell. read more

This is the first time that a dentist does the first dental hygiene (no charge with my Delta Dental plan, Kaiser Permanente Plus) and leaves visible deposits on my front and lateral teeth. What really upset me was that, just as I was leaving the office, the nurse presented me with a recommended thorough scaling (cleaning) job for $660.00. I definitely got the message to switch dentists, and hope to have better luck with my new choice. read more

Dr.Derakshan does work even filling in the way the dental insurance does not cover . He gave me the estimate of cavity treatments over 1200.00!!! I am supposed to just pay 45.00 copayment times 5 cavities. He didn't even tell me anything about this in the office when I saw him. He just surprised at me by email. Filling is no copayment per my insurance but he did clear fancy filling and made me paypaid 200.00!!! He made me wait 2 hours more from my appointment but no apology at all! I regularly go to Dr. Derakshan for myself and rest of the family. He spends a lot of extra time going into details of what is involved and explains the procedures and let's you decide if something is not really needed. I always had a hard time in the past with few other dentists that I had tried since it feels like that most dental offices try to sell you unnecessary procedures. Dr. Ray is a nice guy and his main concern is your dental hygiene and health. read more

The dentist skips some service (even for cleaning). If you have cavities, he would reject the cheaper service when you have 2 choices. I contacted my insurance and they told me the dentist can't reject the service when you have options. I am changing my dentist. read more

Very nice, caring dentist. I haven't seen one in many years, always had a bad experience as they all push hard to convince you to get your teeth fixed. He explained everything, showed me my rotten teeth on x-rays and told me to decide what to do. I left with a list of procedures to be done and frankly I'm freaked out but will most likely go back at least to get the deep cleaning done. read more

I was a little hesitant to go to this dentist because of the yelp reviews but I figured there are some people who are going to be unhappy with their service no matter what and I decided to see what this dentist was like for myself. Dr. Derakshan was very nice, informative and contrary to what other people wrote - he was gentle with my teeth. I was very nervous because it had been a while since I had been to the dentist and I was worried about unnecessary costs and the pain. All of the prices were reasonable and I didn't feel like I was being pressured into unnecessary work. He offered advice that had nothing to do with him profiting (helping me take better care of my teeth at home actually hurts his potential profit). Lastly, he didn't scold me for not flossing enough or make me feel like a bad client. I highly recommend this dentist! read more
